Abstract
Chemical dynamics Simulation studies on benzene dimer (Bz2) and benzene-hexachlorobenzene (Bz-HCB) as performed in the past suggest that the coupling between the monomeric (intramolecular) vibrational modes and modes generated due to the association of two monomers (intermolecular) has to be neither strong nor weak for a fast dissociation of the complex. To find the optimum coupling, four complexes are taken into consideration in this work, namely, benzene-monofluorobenzene, benzene-monochlorobenzene, benzene-trifluorobenzene (Bz-TFB), and benzene-trichlorobenzene. Bz-TFB has the highest rate of dissociation among all seven complexes, including Bz2, Bz-HCB, and Bz-HFB (HFB stands for hexafluorobenzene). The set of vibrational frequencies of Bz-TFB is mainly the reason for this fast dissociation. The mass of chlorine in Bz-HCB is optimized to match its vibrational frequencies similar to those of Bz-TFB, and the dissociation of Bz-HCB becomes faster. The power spectrum of Bz-TFB, Bz-HCB, and Bz-HCB with the modified mass of chlorine is also computed to understand the extent of the said coupling in these complexes.

Abstract
The unimolecular dissociation dynamics of the C6H6-C6Cl6 (Bz-HCB) complex is studied with initial excitation of all vibrational modes for a temperature range of 1000-2000 K and with mode-specific excitations at 1500 K. The results are compared with those of the C6H6-C6F6 [Bz- HFB] complex. When all modes of Bz-HCB are initially excited, the rate of dissociation is slower with respect to Bz-HFB. However, the rate of dissociation is faster when simulations with nonrandom excitation of the specific vibrational modes are performed. The rate of dissociation of Bz-HCB is found to become slower when a few intramolecular modes are excited along with all inter-fragment modes compared to the simulation when only inter-fragment modes of the same complex are excited. Such an energy-transfer dynamics is absent if both intramolecular and inter-fragment modes are not initially excited. Thus, a "stimulated" resonance energy-transfer dynamics is observed in Bz-HCB dissociation dynamics.

Abstract
We report a comparison of the analysis of the low energy spectrum of 13CHF3 and 12CHF3 from the THz (FIR) range to the ν1 fundamental at high resolution (δ[small nu, Greek, tilde] < 0.001 cm-1 or otherwise Doppler limited) on the basis of FTIR spectra taken both with ordinary light sources and with the synchrotron radiation from the Swiss Light Source. Several vibrational levels are accurately determined including, in particular, the 2ν4 CH-bending overtone and the ν1 CH-stretching fundamental of 13CHF3. Comparison of experimental results with those from accurate full dimensional vibrational calculations allows for a study of the time-dependent quantum dynamics of intramolecular vibrational redistribution (IVR) in the CH chromophore both on short time scales (fs) and longer time scales (ps) when coupling to the lower frequency modes becomes important and where the 12C/13C isotope effects are very large.

Abstract
The gas phase of hydrogen fluoride has been investigated by neutron diffraction experiments at three different particle densities. All investigated states are within the liquid-gas coexistence region of hydrogen fluoride. From the obtained diffraction data we deduced information about the local structure of the gas phase, which consists of small agglomerates. This has been expected as liquid hydrogen fluoride forms the strongest hydrogen bonds known. Molecular dynamics simulations with a modified potential have been carried out for all experimentally investigated states. The results confirmed that the size of the formed agglomerates in the gas phase is growing with increasing density of the gas phase.

Abstract
Two theoretical models for the interpretation of the existing data of CH-stretching overtones' vibrational circular dichroism data are presented. The first model is based on the quantum mechanical Van Vleck contact transformation theory and is applied to the full vibrational problem, the second is based on classical trajectories calculations, by which we treat a simplified three-degrees of freedom Hamiltonian. The latter allows one to derive a qualitative but efficacious picture of the behavior of coupled anharmonic oscillators. In this framework, we analyze the Poincare Surfaces of Section, and calculate the Fourier Cross Spectra of coupled CH-stretchings. Values for the harmonic frequencies and anharmonicities are derived from absorption spectra in the near infrared on partially deuterated compounds. The effect of large amplitude, low-frequency puckering or twisting modes on the ensemble of coupled CH-stretching is taken into account. Copyright 2000 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
