Flow injection methods for the determination of retinol and α-tocopherol using lucigenin-enhanced chemiluminescence

Determination of Nalbuphine Hydrochloride in Pharmaceutical Formulations Using Diperiodatoargentate(III)-Rhodamine-B Chemiluminescence System by Flow Injection Analysis

A novel method for the analysis of nalbuphine hydrochloride (NAL) is reported based on its enhancement effect on a diperiodatoargentate(III)-rhodamine-B (Ag(III) complex-Rh-B) chemiluminescence (CL) system in an aqueous sulfuric acid medium using flow-injection analysis (FIA). The optimal conditions of the CL reaction were: sulfuric acid, 10^-2 M; Ag(III) complex, 2.0 × 10^-4 M; Rh-B, 2.0 × 10^-5 M; Brij-35, 0.01%; sample loop volume, 300 μL; and flow rate, 3.0 mL/min/stream. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.001 and 0.003 mg/L (S/N = 3 and 10); linear calibration range, 5 × 10^-3 - 5.0 mg/L (R² = 0.9999) and injection throughput, 150/h. The relative standard deviation (RSD) was from 0.8 - 3.2% over the range studied. The suggested technique was applied for the determination of NAL in pharmaceutical injections, compared with a reported spectrophotometric method, and obtained results were found to be satisfactory. Based on spectrophotometric studies, the most probable mechanism of the CL reaction has been briefly described and drawn schematically.

Flow-injection determination of manganese (II) using surfactant enhanced diperiodatonickelate (IV)-rhodamine 6G chemiluminescence

Chemiluminescence (CL) of the rhodamine 6-G-diperiodatonickelate (IV) (Rh6-G-Ni(IV) complex) in the presence of Brij-35 was examined in an alkaline medium and implemented using flow-injection analysis to analyze Mn(II) in natural waters. Brij-35 was identified as the surfactant of choice that enhanced CL intensity by about 62% of the reaction. The calibration curves were linear in the range 1.7 × 10^-3 - 0.2 (0.9990, n = 7) and 8.0 × 10^-4 - 0.1 μg ml^-1 (0.9990, n = 7) with limits of detection (LODs) (S:N = 3) of 5.0 × 10^-4 and 2.4 × 10^-4 μg ml^-1 without and with using an in-line 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) resin mini-column, respectively. The sample throughput and relative standard deviation were 200 h^-1 and 1.7-2.2% in the range studied respectively. Mn(II) concentrations in certified reference materials and natural water samples was successfully determined. A brief discussion about the possible CL reaction mechanism is also given. In addition, analysis of V(III), Cr(III) and Fe(II) was also performed without and with using an in-line 8-HQ column and selective elution of each metal ion was achieved by adjusting the pH of the sample carrier stream with aqueous HCl solution.

Mechanism of alcohol-enhanced lucigenin chemiluminescence in alkaline solution

The chemiluminescence (CL) of lucigenin (Luc(2+)) can be enhanced by different alcohols in alkaline solution. The effect of different fatty alcohols on the CL of lucigenin was related to the carbon chain length and the number of hydroxyl groups. Glycerol provides the greatest enhancement. UV/Vis absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra showed that N-methylacridone (NMA) was produced in the CL reaction in the presence of different alcohols. The peak of the CL spectrum was located at 470 nm in all cases, indicating that the luminophore was always the excited-state NMA. The quenching of lucigenin CL by superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the electron spin resonance (ESR) results with the spin trap of 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO) demonstrated that superoxide anions (O2 (•-)) were generated from dissolved oxygen in the CL reaction and that glycerol and dihydroxyacetone (DHA) can promote O2 (•-) production by the reduction of dissolved oxygen in alkaline solution. It was assumed that the enhancement provided by different alcohols was related to the solvent effect and reducing capacity. Glycerol and DHA can also reduce Luc(2+) into lucigenin cation radicals (Luc(•+) ), which react with O2 (•-) to produce CL, and glycerol can slowly transform into DHA, which is oxidized quickly in alkaline solution.

Flow Injection Photosensitized Chemiluminescence of Luminol with Cu(II)-Rose Bengal: Mechanistic Approach and Vitamin A and C Determination

Rose Bengal photosensitized flow injection chemiluminescence method is reported using luminol-Cu(II) for the determination of vitamins A and C in pharmaceutical formulations. The reaction is based on the enhancement effect of analyte in the production of anion radicals of Rose Bengal (RB^•−) which rapidly interact with dissolved oxygen and generate superoxide anions radicals (O₂^•−) and hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). Highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (^•OH) were produced via dismutation of H₂O₂ by catalyst (Cu²⁺). The generated superoxide anions radicals and hydroxyl radicals thus oxidize luminol in alkaline medium to generate strong chemiluminescence. The limit of detection (3s of the blank, n = 6) of vitamins A and C and RB was found to be 0.008, 0.005, and 0.05 μg mL⁻¹, respectively. The sample throughput of 70 h⁻¹ for vitamins A and C and 30 h⁻¹ for RB was found. Calibration curve was linear in the range of 0.05–15, 0.01–20, and 0.1–50 μg mL⁻¹ for vitamins A and C and RB, respectively, with relative standard deviations (RSDs; n = 3) in the range 1.6–3.6%. The method was successfully applied to pharmaceutical formulations and the results obtained were in good agreement with the labeled values.

Enhanced chemiluminescence of cerium(IV)-Tween 85 system and the analytical application

The oxidation reaction between cerium(IV) and Tween 85 in sulfuric acid medium produced weak chemiluminescence (CL). In this paper, it was found that citrate could strongly enhance the CL of cerium(IV)-Tween 85-polyphenol system. Based on studies of ultraviolet-visible spectra and CL spectra, the CL enhancement mechanism had been proposed. It was surmised that the light emission was from an excited oxygen molecular pair O2((1)Δg)O2((1)∑g(-)). The maximum emission wavelength was about 478 nm. The effects of 17 amino acids and 29 organic compounds on cerium(IV)-Tween 85-citrate CL were investigated by a flow injection procedure. This study showed the present system had a wide application for the determination of these compounds.
