Abstract
Zinc ion, one of the most important transition metal ions in living organisms, plays a crucial role in the homeostasis of the organism. The disorder of zinc is associated with many major diseases. It is highly desirable to develop selective and sensitive methods for the real-time detection of zinc ions. In this work, double-emitting fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) are prepared by a solvothermal method using glutathione, L-aspartic acid, and formamide as the raw materials. The carbon dots specifically recognize zine ions and produce a decrease in fluorescence intensity at 684 nm and an increase at 649 nm, leading to a ratiometric fluorescent sensor for zinc detection. Through surface modification and spectral analysis, the surface groups including carboxyl, carbonyl, hydroxyl, and amino groups, and C=N in heterocycles of CDs are revealed to synergistically coordinate Zn2+, inducing the structural changes in the emission site. The CDs can afford a low limit of detection of ~5 nM for Zn2+ detection with good linearity in the range of 0.02-5 μM, showing good selectivity as well. The results from real samples including fetal bovine serum, milk powder, and zinc gluconate oral solution indicated the good applicability of the CDs in the determination of Zn2+.

Abstract
Optical chemosensors caused a revolution in the field of sensing due to their high specificity, sensitivity, and fast detection features. Imidazole derivatives have offered promising features in the literature as they bear suitable donor/acceptor groups for the selective analytes in the skeleton. In this work, an isoindole-imidazole containing a Schiff base chemosensor (1-{3-[(2-Diethylamino-ethylimino)-methyl]-2-hydroxy-5-methyl-phenyl}-2H-imidazo[5,1-a]isoindole-3,5-dione) was designed and synthesized. The complete sensing phenomena have been investigated by means of UV-Vis, fluorescence, lifetime measurement, FT-IR, NMR and ESI-MS spectroscopic techniques. The optical properties of the synthesized ligand were investigated in 3:7 HEPES buffer:DMSO medium and found to be highly selective and sensitive toward Zn2+ ion through a fluorescence turn-on response with detection limit of 0.073 μm. Furthermore, this response is effective in gel form also. The competition studies reveal that the response of the probe for Zn2+ ion is unaffected by other relevant metal ions. The stoichiometric binding study was performed utilizing Job’s method which indicated a 1:1 sensor–Zn2+ ensemble. Computational calculations were performed to pinpoint the mechanism of sensing.

Abstract
Monoiodo- and dibromsubstituted dipyrromethenes HL1 - HL3 were described as a highly sensitive and selective «Off-On» fluorescent chemosensor for Zn2+ based on the chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) effect. Сoordination reactions of HL1 - HL3 with Zn2+ cations are accompanied by a significant (124 to 215-fold) increase in fluorescence intensity against the background of other metal ions in the binary propanol-1/cyclohexane mixture (1:30). The fluorometric detection limit of Zn2+ ions using HL1 - HL3 sensors is from 3.0∙10-8 to 3.3·10-9 mol/L. The presence of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Pb2+ cations does not interfere with the detection of Zn2+. Complexation reactions are accompanied by a visual change in the color of the solution from yellow-orange to pink-raspberry so that the HL1 - HL3 ligands can also be used as a «naked-eye» indicators of the presence of Zn2+ ions.

Abstract
A chemosensor DQ (2-(2-(quinolin-2-yl)hydrazinyl)-N-(quinolin-8-yl)acetamide), based on two quinoline moieties, has been synthesized. DQ could detect zinc ion through fluorescence turn-on in aqueous media. Limit of detection was calculated as 0.07 μM, far lower than the standard of WHO for zinc ion. The practicality of DQ was demonstrated via the successful results of reusability with EDTA, easy detection on the test strip, and precise quantification in real water samples. Additionally, sensor DQ could be applied to bioimaging of zinc ion in zebrafish. Sensing process of zinc ion by DQ was studied through fluorescence and UV-Vis spectroscopy, 1H NMR titration, and ESI-mass spectrometry.

Abstract
Zinc plays a key role in many physiological processes and has implications for the environment. Consequently, detection of chelatable zinc ion (Zn2+ ) has attracted widespread interest from the research community. Lanthanide-based luminescent probes offer particular advantages, such as high water solubility, long luminescence lifetimes and a large Stokes' shift, over common organic dye-based fluorescent sensors. Here, we report the synthesis of terbium and europium complex-based probes, Tb-1 and Eu-1, for sensitive and selective detection of Zn2+ in water. These probes featured the incorporation of bis(2-pyridylmethyl)]amine (DPA) receptor for Zn2+ chelation and the 1,4,7-tris(carboxymethyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (DO3A) ring to chelate lanthanide (Ln3+ ). Tb-1 and Eu-1 displayed high selectivity for Zn2+ ions over a wide range of competing ions, with limits of detection of 0.50 ± 0.1 μM and 1.5 ± 0.01 μM, respectively. Density functional theory simulations were in good agreement with experimental observations, displaying high Zn2+ selectivity compared with most competing ions. In the competing ions experiments, the luminescence response of Tb-1 and Eu-1 was moderately quenched by some ions such as Cu2+ , this was linked to the comparable binding abilities of these ions for the receptor of the probe.

Abstract
A benzyl carbazate-based fluorescent chemosensor BCS was designed and synthesized for detection of Zn2+ in aqueous media. BCS displayed a notable fluorescence increase with Zn2+. Detection limit (1.12 μM) of BCS for zinc ion was much lower than the standard of World Health Organization. BCS was used to analyze the amounts of Zn2+ in water samples. Importantly, sensor BCS could be used to image Zn2+ in zebrafish, and a fluorescent test strip of sensor BCS for detecting Zn2+ could be useful for practical purpose. Sensing process of Zn2+ by BCS was demonstrated by DFT calculations, based on an effect of chelation-enhanced fluorescence.

Abstract
A ligand comprised of a macrocyclic pyridinophane core having a pendant arm containing a secondary amine group linked through a methylene spacer to a pyridyl-oxadiazole-phenyl (PyPD) fluorescent system has been prepared (L). The crystal structures of [ZnL](ClO4)2 and [CuL](ClO4)2 show that M2+ is coordinated to all the nitrogen atoms of the macrocyclic core, the secondary amine of the pendant arm and the nitrogen atom of the pyridine group of the fluorescent moiety, the latter bond being clearly weaker than the one with the pyridine of the macrocycle. Solution studies showed the formation of a highly stable Cu2+ complex with 1 : 1 stoichiometry, whereas with Zn2+ least stable complexes were formed and, given the right conditions, a [Zn3L2]6+ species was also detected, but it was not possible to isolate this species in the solid state. Following Zn2+ coordination, a strong chelation-induced enhancement of fluorescence was observed, a behaviour that was not observed with any of the other metal cations tested.

Abstract
To fabricate a novel biomimetic fluorescent chemosensor, PSaAEMA-co-PMPC was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization, and this copolymer could be used for the detection of zinc(ii) and cell imaging. A series tests with various metal ions verified the specific fluorescence response behavior. This novel biomimetic fluorescent chemosensor exhibits excellent selectivity for Zn2+ ions over a wide range of tested metal ions in an aqueous solution. Moreover, cytotoxicity and bio-imaging tests were conducted to study the potential bio-application of the chemosensor. Owing to the biomimetic portion (phosphorylcholine), this copolymer possesses outstanding biocompatibility and could clearly image cells. The results indicated that PSaAEMA-co-PMPC has great potential for application in zinc(ii) detection and cell imaging. To fabricate a novel biomimetic fluorescent chemosensor, PSaAEMA-co-PMPC was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization, and this copolymer could be used for the detection of zinc(ii) and cell imaging.![]()
