Abstract
A simple and sensitive colorimetric assay for detecting organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) was developed based on 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB)/hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)/dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)-tetramethyl zinc (4-pyridinyl) porphyrin (ZnTPyP). In this system, based on the peroxidase-like activity of DTAB-ZnTPyP, H2O2 decomposes to produce hydroxyl radicals, which oxidize TMB, resulting in blue oxidation products. The OPs (trichlorfon, dichlorvos, and thimet) were first combined with DTAB-ZnTPyP through electrostatic interactions. The OPs caused a decrease in the peroxidase-like activity of DTAB-ZnTPyP due to spatial site blocking. At the same time, π-interactions occurred between them, and these interactions also inhibited the oxidation of TMB (652 nm), thus making the detection of OPs possible. The limits of detection for trichlorfon, dichlorvos, and thimet were 0.25, 1.02, and 0.66 μg/L, respectively, and the corresponding linear ranges were 1-35, 5-45, and 1-40 μg/L, respectively. Moreover, the assay was successfully used to determine OPs in cabbage, apple, soil, and traditional Chinese medicine samples (the recovery ratios were 91.8-109.8%), showing a great promising potential for detecting OPs also in other complex samples.

Abstract
A fast and sensitive method was validated for the analysis of pesticide residues in baby food. After an QuEChERS-based extraction, the samples were analysed with a dual-channel liquid chromatography instrument coupled to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The method consisted of two independent injections per sample. In the first injection the sample was analysed with a mobile phase optimal for the positive polarity ionisation (water, methanol, formic acid, and ammonium formate), whereas in the second injection the mobile phase was optimised for the negative polarity ionisation (water, acetonitrile, acetic acid). The total number of pesticides was 264, out of which 238 were analysed with the methanol gradient and 26 with the acetonitrile gradient. The dual-channel instrument allowed for sample multiplexing. Thus, sample throughput was equivalent to that of a single-channel system. The limit of quantitation, determined according to the DG SANTE guidance document, was 0.003 mg/kg for 97% of the evaluated compounds. The validation study was followed by a real sample survey. In 42 samples, 16 positives were found.

Abstract
A comparative study was conducted to replace the traditional screening method (MFDS#83) with the Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) EN method for the determination of 267 pesticides/metabolites/plant activators/growth regulators in five representative crop matrices (mandarin, pepper, potato, rice, and soybean). In the traditional method, samples were extracted with acetonitrile and salt, and purified with a solid-phase extraction cartridge. In the QuEChERS method, the sample extraction was carried out using acetonitrile and a mixture of salts, and purification was performed using dispersive solid phase extraction. The limit of quantification (LOQ) for the MFDS#83 method was 0.0004 mg/kg, whereas for the QuEChERS EN method, the LOQ varied from 0.002 to 0.006 mg/kg for all analytes in various matrices. A six-point matrix-matched calibration curve was prepared for all analytes in five matrices for both methods. Both the MFDS#83 and QuEChERS EN methods provided excellent linearity, with the coefficients of determination (R2) ≥ 0.99 for most of the compounds. In both cases, the method was validated in terms of recovery and repeatability after the fortification of two different concentrations with three replicates for each of the concentrations. The QuEChERS EN method provided better recovery than the MFDS#83 method for all matrices except mandarin.

Abstract
Fermented whole grain (WG) sorghum food products including WG-ting can be obtained from different sample sources and fermentation conditions, leading subsequently to variations in the molecular composition of the products. There is however, a lack of detailed understanding and description of differential molecular profiles of these food products. Thus, the current study is a nontargeted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)-based metabolomics approach to descriptively elucidate metabolic profiles of two WG-sorghum types [high tannin (HT) and low tannin (LT)] and their derived WG-ting products obtained via fermentation. Metabolites were extracted with 80% aqueous methanol and analyzed on a gas chromatography high resolution time of flight mass spectrometry (GC-HRTOF-MS) system. Chemometric methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were applied to mine the generated data. Our results showed that tannin contents influenced the composition of the raw sorghum and derived WG-ting samples. Metabolite signatures that differentiated raw HT- and LT-sorghum included cyclic compounds, pesticides, 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol, fatty acid esters, and sugar derivatives. Furthermore, fermentation of the HT- and LT-sorghum into WG-ting led to an increase in the levels of fatty acids, fatty acid esters and some other compounds which are vital from a dietary and health context. Equally observed were reduction of some phenols, cyclic compounds, a pesticide and ketone. Thus, the results demonstrated that the inherent metabolic composition of raw sorghum would lead to differential metabolic changes in the fermented products such as WG-ting, with subsequent dietary and health implications. Fermenting ting with Lactobacillus fermentum FUA 3321 was most desirable as relevant metabolites were observed in both HT- and LT-ting samples. Furthermore, the study highlights the applicability of GC-MS metabolomics in understanding WG-ting fermentation.
