Abstract
A 49-year-old Japanese woman was admitted to our hospital with weight loss of 15 kg, nephrotic-range proteinuria (4.5 g/g.Cre), and hematuria over a 6-month period. She had received two doses of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine one year before the onset of the disease, after which the estimated glomerular filtration rate increased. Laboratory tests and other tests led to a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, and a kidney biopsy showed thrombotic microangiopathy-like glomerular microangiopathy comprising mainly glomerular endothelial cell damage. Thiamazole (30 mg) was started for the hyperthyroidism. Three months later, the thyroid function normalized, and two months later, the proteinuria and hematuria disappeared, suggesting that COVID-19 vaccination and these events were related.

Abstract
Traditional medication and alternative therapies have long been used to treat breast cancer. One of the main problems with current treatments is that there is an increase in drug resistance in the cancer cells owing to genetic differences such as mutational changes, epigenetic changes and miRNA (microRNA) alterations such as miR-1246, miR-298, miR-27b and miR-33a, along with epigenetic modifications, such as Histone3 acetylation and CCCTC-Binding Factor (CTCF) hypermethylation for drug resistance in breast cancer cell lines. Certain forms of conventional drug resistance have been linked to genetic changes in genes such as ABCB1, AKT, S100A8/A9, TAGLN2 and NPM. This review aims to explore the current approaches to counter breast cancer, the action mechanism, along with novel therapeutic methods endowing potential drug resistance. The investigation of novel therapeutic approaches sheds light on the phenomenon of drug resistance including genetic variations that impact distinct forms of oestrogen receptor (ER) cancer, genetic changes, epigenetics-reported resistance and their identification in patients. Long-term effective therapy for breast cancer includes selective oestrogen receptor modulators, selective oestrogen receptor degraders and genetic variations, such as mutations in nuclear genes, epigenetic modifications and miRNA alterations in target proteins. Novel research addressing combinational therapies including maytansine, photodynamic therapy, guajadiol, talazoparib, COX2 inhibitors and miRNA 1246 inhibitors have been developed to improve patient survival rates.

Abstract
Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs) include a wide spectrum of thyroid diseases affecting more commonly women than men. The most frequent forms are Graves' Disease (GD) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis / Autoimmune Thyroiditis (AIT), but there are also other immunogenic destructive forms of thyroiditis, that is, silent and postpartum thyroiditis. In the last decade, AITDs and other inflammatory thyroid diseases related to anti-tumor molecular drugs are more frequently seen due to the widespread use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPIs). Autoimmune thyroiditis related to SARS-CoV-2 infection has been a novel entity in recent years. Graves' Disease and AIT may shift from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism, which may complicate the differential diagnosis and further treatment strategy. Moreover, all AITDs may manifest with thyrotoxicosis (a clinical condition marked with high serum levels of thyroid hormones) which has to be distinguished from hyperthyroidism (increased thyroid hormone production and secretion as a result of hyperfunctioning thyroid gland) due to different therapeutic approaches. Nuclear medicine techniques, such as radioiodine uptake (RAIU) and thyroid scintigraphy, using 99mTc- pertechnetate (Na[99mTc]TcO4) or 123-Iodine (Na[123I]I), have a crucial role in the differential diagnosis. Measurement of thyroid antibodies, e.g. thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO) and thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb), as well as thyroid ultrasound, are complementary methods in the evaluation of thyroid disorders.

Abstract
PURPOSE An increased incidence of hypothyroidism among breast cancer survivors has been observed in earlier studies. The impact of the postoperative treatment modalities and their potential interplay on hypothyroidism development needs to be studied. METHODS We conducted a population- and registry-based study using the Breast Cancer Data Base Sweden (BCBaSe) including females diagnosed with breast cancer between 2006 and 2012. In total, 21,268 female patients diagnosed with early breast cancer between 2006 and 2012, with no previous prescription of thyroid hormones and no malignant diagnosis during the last ten years before breast cancer diagnosis, were included in the final analysis. RESULTS During the follow-up (median follow-up time 7.9 years), 1212 patients (5.7%) developed hypothyroidism at a median time of 3.45 years from the index date. No association of the systemic oncological treatment in terms of either chemotherapy or endocrine therapy and hypothyroidism development could be identified. A higher risk (HR 1.68;95% CI 1.42-1.99) of hypothyroidism identified among patients treated with radiation treatment of the regional lymph nodes whereas no increased risk in patients treated only with radiation therapy to the breast/chest wall was found (HR 1.01; 95% CI 0.86-1.19). The risk of hypothyroidism in the cohort treated with radiotherapy of the regional lymph nodes was present irrespective of the use of adjuvant chemotherapy treatment. CONCLUSIONS Based on the results of our study, the implementation of hypothyroidism surveillance among the breast cancer survivors treated with radiotherapy of the regional lymph nodes can be considered as reasonable in the follow-up program.

Abstract
The role of estrogen receptors (ERs) in breast cancer is of great importance in both clinical practice and scientific exploration. However, around 15-30% of those affected do not see benefits from the usual treatments owing to the innate resistance mechanisms, while 30-40% will gain resistance through treatments. In order to address this problem and facilitate community-wide efforts, machine learning (ML)-based approaches are considered one of the most cost-effective and large-scale identification methods. Herein, we propose a new SMILES-based stacked approach, termed StackER, for the accelerated and efficient identification of ERα and ERβ inhibitors. In StackER, we first established an up-to-date dataset consisting of 1,996 and 1,207 compounds for ERα and ERβ, respectively. Using the up-to-date dataset, StackER explored a wide range of different SMILES-based feature descriptors and ML algorithms in order to generate probabilistic features (PFs). Finally, the selected PFs derived from the two-step feature selection strategy were used for the development of an efficient stacked model. Both cross-validation and independent tests showed that StackER surpassed several conventional ML classifiers and the existing method in precisely predicting ERα and ERβ inhibitors. Remarkably, StackER achieved MCC values of 0.829-0.847 and 0.712-0.786 in terms of the cross-validation and independent tests, respectively, which were 5.92-8.29 and 1.59-3.45% higher than the existing method. In addition, StackER was applied to determine useful features for being ERα and ERβ inhibitors and identify FDA-approved drugs as potential ERα inhibitors in efforts to facilitate drug repurposing. This innovative stacked method is anticipated to facilitate community-wide efforts in efficiently narrowing down ER inhibitor screening.

Abstract
This study explored whether the risk of thyroid cancer in Asian women is associated with consumption of oral contraceptives (Diane-35). We conducted a population-based, retrospective cohort study using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. From the database, 9865 women aged 18 to 65 years who were prescribed Diane-35 between 2000 and 2012 were included in the Diane-35 group, and 39,460 women who were not prescribed Diane-35 were included in the comparison group and were frequency-matched by age and index year. Both groups were followed until 2013 to calculate the incidence of thyroid cancer. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using Cox proportional hazard model. The median (standard deviation) follow-up duration was 7.08 (3.63) and 7.04 (3.64) years in the Diane-35 and the comparison group, respectively. The incidence of thyroid cancer was 1.80-fold higher in the Diane-35 group than in the comparison group (2.72 vs 1.51 per 10,000 person-years). The cumulative incidence of thyroid cancer was significantly higher in the Diane-35 group than in the comparison group (log-rank test, P = .03). An elevated hazard ratio of thyroid cancer was observed in the Diane-35 group than in the comparison group (HR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.10-3.30). In subgroup analysis, patients aged 30 to 39 years showed a higher hazard ratio of developing thyroid cancer after consuming Diane-35 than those in the comparison group (HR: 5.58, 95% CI: 1.84-16.91). The study provides evidence that women aged 30 to 39 years consuming Diane-35 are at increased risk of thyroid cancer. Nevertheless, a larger population with a longer follow-up may be necessary to confirm causality.
