Abstract
Cuphea P. Browne (Lythraceae) is a monophyletic taxon comprising some 240–260 species that grow wild in the warm, temperate, and tropical regions of South and Central America and the southern part of North America. They have been valued as traditional medicinal remedies for numerous indications, including treating wounds, parasitic infections, hypertension, digestive disorders, cough, rheumatism, and pain. Modern pharmacological research provides data that support many of these traditional uses. Such a wide array of medicinal applications may be due to the exceptionally rich phytochemical profile of these plants, which includes bioactive compounds classified into various metabolite groups, such as polyphenols, triterpenes, alkaloids, and coumarins. Furthermore, Cuphea seed oils, containing medium-chain fatty acids, are of increasing interest in various industries as potential substitutes for coconut and palm oils. This review aims to summarize the results of phytochemical and pharmacological studies on Cuphea plants, with a particular focus on the therapeutic potential and molecular mechanisms of the action of polyphenolic compounds (especially flavonoids and tannins), which have been the subject of many recently published articles.

Abstract
Cuphea ignea A. DC. is an ornamental tropical plant belonging to the family Lythraceae. The aim of this study is to verify the in vivo antihypertensive potential of C. ignea A. DC. and to explore its metabolic profile using a UHPLC-Orbitrap-HRMS technique. The results revealed that the ethanolic extract of the leaves in two doses (250 and 500 mg/kg b.wt.) significantly normalized the elevated systolic blood pressure in N(G)-nitro-l-arginine-methyl ester-induced hypertension in rats. An angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) concentration was significantly decreased by the high dose extract compared to lisinopril. Nitric oxide (NO) level was significantly restored by both doses. Concerning the oxidative stress parameters, both doses displayed significant reduction in malondialdehyde (MDA) level while the high dose restored elevated glutathione level. These biochemical results were clearly supported by the histopathological examination of the isolated heart and aorta. A UHPLC-Orbitrap-HRMS study was represented by a detailed metabolic profile of leaves and flowers of C. ignea A. DC., where 53 compounds were identified among which flavonoids, fatty acids, and hydrolysable tannins were the major identified classes. This study established scientific evidence for the use of C. ignea A. DC., a member of genus Cuphea as a complementary treatment in the management of hypertension.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Sida tuberculata R. E. Fries (Malvaceae) is a pioneer species considered a weed in farm fields in Southern Brazil. Widely distributed in South Brazil, S. tuberculata is popularly used to treat inflammatory conditions. AIMS OF THE STUDY The current study aimed to assess the in vitro cytotoxic and in vivo anti-inflammatory properties of S. tuberculata. MATERIALS AND METHODS Initially, extracts obtained from leaves (STLE) and roots (STRE) were submitted to cytotoxicity tests using human leukocytes (non-malignant cell line) and HepG2 and MCF-7 (tumor cell lines). In sequence, anti-inflammatory properties were investigated against carrageenan-induced peritonitis model. RESULTS In vitro analyses displayed a significant decrease in human leukocytes viability without genotoxic damage. IC50 results from tumor cells presented significant decrease in cell viability, slightly more pronounced for STRE. In addition, STLE significantly inhibited the inflammatory and oxidative parameters (TBARS, NPSH, SOD, MPO activity, cell influx, and cytokines release). CONCLUSION Our findings indicate S. tuberculata extracts have cytotoxic potential more pronounced on tumor cell lines, as well as leaves extract shows a significant reduction in acute inflammation process, as already reported for Sida genus and specifically for this species.

Abstract
In organic and inorganic synthesis and in analytical methods, an external conventional heat source is usually applied to carry out a chemical reaction at a high temperature, or an extraction procedure. In the last decades, the use of ultrasound as an alternative energy source has become an interesting field of research in these topics in the South Cone region (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Southern Brazil and Paraguay). For this reason, the present review, covering the period 2009 to mid-2021, is a compilation of ultrasound-assisted synthetic and analytical methodologies.
