Manganese phosphinocarbodithioate for RAFT polymerisation with sunlight-induced chain end post-treatment

A new manganese complex of the formula Cp(CO)₂MnP(Ph)₂C(S)SCH(CH₃)Ph is an efficient RAFT agent for the preparation of SH-terminated polymers by simple visible light photocleavage of the organometallic end-group.

Mechanistic Evaluation of the Ni(IPr)2-Catalyzed Cycloaddition of Alkynes and Nitriles to Afford Pyridines: Evidence for the Formation of a Key η1-Ni(IPr)2(RCN) Intermediate

A detailed mechanistic evaluation of the Ni(IPr)2-catalyzed [2+2+2]-cycloaddition of diynes and nitriles was 2 conducted. Through kinetic analysis of these reactions, observed regioselectivities of the products, and stoichiometric reactions, Ni(IPr)2-catalyzed cycloadditions of diynes and nitriles appear to proceed by a heterooxidative coupling mechanism, contrary to other common cycloaddition catalysts. Reaction profiles demonstrated strong dependence in nitrile, resulting in variable nitrile-dependent resting states. Strong coordination and considerable steric bulk of the carbene ligands facilitate selective initial binding of nitrile thereby forcing a heterocoupling pathway. In situ IR data suggests the initial binding of the nitrile resides in a rare, η1-bound conformation. Following nitrile coordination are a rate-determining hapticity shift of the nitrile and subsequent loss of carbene. Alkyne coordination then leads to heterooxidative coupling, insertion of the pendant alkyne, and reductive elimination to afford pyridine products.

Synthesis, characterization and olefin/CO exchange reactions of pyrazolylborato complexes of copper(i)

New bis(pyrazolyl)borato olefin complexes of copper(I) of general formula Cu[BH2(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)2](olefin) have been prepared (olefins: coe = cyclooctene, van = 4-vinylanisole, clsty = 4-chlorostyrene, tevs = triethylvinylsilane, fn = fumaronitrile). The structures of Cu[BH2(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)2](L), L = coe, van, tevs, fn, have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. Considering the two N atoms of the bis(pyrazolyl)borate ligand and the midpoint of the C-C double bond of the coordinated olefin, the compounds with L = coe, van and tevs contain a copper atom in a trigonal planar coordination. A coordination polymer with N-coordinated fumaronitrile and tetrahedral coordination of copper atoms is obtained in the case of L = fn. The carbonylation reactions of Cu[BH(2)(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)2](olefin) (olefin = coe, clsty, van, tevs), Cu[BH2(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)2](olefin) + CO<==>Cu[BH2(3,5-(CF3)2Pz)2](CO) + olefin, have been studied gas volumetrically and the thermodynamical parameters of the equilibria for the displacement of the coordinated olefin by carbon monoxide have been determined. These data for copper(I) are compared with those reported in the literature.
