Abstract
The reaction of the N,N-diisopropyl bromoiminium salt with excess sodium phosphaethynolate (NaPCO) affords a diphospha-urea 2. Under blue light irradiation (450 nm), carbon monoxide is liberated affording the bis(carbene)P2 adduct 3. Photolysis of a benzene solution of 3 at 365 nm gives rise to the carbene dimer, namely the 1,2-bis(diisopropylamino)ethylene as a cis/trans mixture, along with white and red phosphorus. Under the same experimental conditions, but in the presence of excess 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene, the classical double Diels-Alder adduct of the triple-bonded diphosphorus P[triple bond, length as m-dash]P was obtained along with the bis(phospholene) formally resulting from a double [4 + 1] reaction of the diene with the bis(phosphinidene) form of P2. A stepwise carbene-carbene exchange reaction also occurs between the monosubstituted aminocarbene of 3 and a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene, possibly involving the transient formation of a diphosphorus analogue of a diazo compound.

Abstract
A new series of compounds formed in a one-step reaction (Phospha–Wittig or phospha–Peterson), containing the CP–P moiety was synthesized and characterized. These species are stable under atmospheric conditions and are resistant to hydrolysis.

Abstract
2-Isopropyl(trimethylsilyl)amino-1lambda3-phosphaalkyne 1 reacts with potassium tert-butoxide to form potassium 1-isopropyl-1-aza-3lambda3-phospha-3-allenide (2). This compound was structurally characterized as the corresponding 18-crown-6 ether complex 3. The molecular structure of 1 was also determined in order to compare the bonding situation in the anion and the neutral lambda3-phosphaalkyne. Compound 3 contains a nitrogen-carbon-phosphorus group for which the parameters were shown by X-ray structural analysis and quantum chemical calculations to lie between the extrema N-C[triple bond]P and N=C=P, suggesting reactivity typical of an ambident anion. This is indeed the case, as subsequent reaction of 2 with chlorotrimethylsilane at nitrogen regenerates the lambda3-phosphaalkyne 1; with chlorotriphenylsilane the new derivative 4 is formed. In contrast, chlorotrimethylstannane reacts at phosphorus, giving the 1-aza-3lambda3-phosphaallene isopropyliminomethylidene(trimethylstannyl)phosphane 5.

Abstract
Primary and secondary alpha-chlorophosphines 2a-g are prepared in ca. 70% yield by chemoselective reduction of the corresponding phosphonic and phosphinic esters with AlHCl(2) and are characterized by (31)P, (13)C, and (1)H NMR and by HMRS. They can be kept several weeks in the refrigerator after purification. They lead then to the corresponding phosphaalkenes 3a-g by HCl elimination. For the volatile alpha-chlorophosphines 2a-e HCl elimination occurs in the gas phase on solid potassium carbonate under VGSR conditions (vacuum gas-solid reactions); the corresponding phosphaalkenes 3a-e are characterized by real time HRMS analysis of the gaseous flow (VGSR/HRMS coupling) and by solid-phase IR spectroscopy after condensation of the gaseous flow on a KBr window cooled to 77 K. The decomposition of phosphaalkenes at this temperature is monitored by IR spectroscopy. The alpha-chlorophosphines 2a-g undergo a HCl elimination in the liquid phase in the presence of a Lewis base; the formation of the transient phosphaalkenes is monitored by (31)P FT-NMR. The temperature of HCl elimination is dependent both upon the P-H acidity of the phosphine precursors and the nature of the base. The (31)P NMR data of the simple phosphaalkenes 3a-g are for the first time reported. They are consistent with the proposed structure. The stereochemistry of the (Z)- and (E)-isomers is established according to the "cis-rule". Phosphaalkenes 3a-g are also characterized by chemical trapping in solution with various dienes, dipoles, or thiols. All of these experiments confirm the transient character of these species. The synthetic potential of this route is evaluated.
