Abstract
During the course of our investigations of fairy chemicals (FCs), we found S-ICAr-H (8a), as a metabolite of imidazole-4-carboxamide (ICA) in rice and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). In order to determine its absolute configuration, an efficient synthetic method of 8a was developed. This synthetic strategy was applicable to the preparation of analogues of 8a that might be biologically very important, such as S-ICAr-M (9), S-AICAr-H (10), and S-AICAr-M (11).

Abstract
S-Adenosyl-l-methionine (AdoMet) is an essential enzyme cosubstrate in fundamental biology with an expanding range of biocatalytic and therapeutic applications. In recent years, technologies enabling the synthesis and utilization of novel functional AdoMet surrogates have rapidly advanced. Developments highlighted within this brief review include improved syntheses of AdoMet analogs, unique S-adenosyl-l-methionine isosteres with enhanced stability, and corresponding applications in epigenetics, proteomics and natural product/small molecule diversification ('alkylrandomization').

Abstract
S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) analogues have previously demonstrated their utility as chemical reporters of methyltransferases. Here we describe the facile, large-scale synthesis of Se-alkyl Se-adenosyl-L-selenomethionine (SeAM) analogues and their precursor, Se-adenosyl-L-selenohomocysteine (SeAH). Comparison of SeAM analogues with their equivalent SAM analogues suggests that sulfonium-to-selenonium substitution can enhance their compatibility with certain protein methyltransferases, favoring otherwise less reactive SAM analogues. Ready access to SeAH therefore enables further application of SeAM analogues as chemical reporters of diverse methyltransferases.

Nucleophilic trapping nitrilimine generated by photolysis of diaryltetrazole in aqueous phase. Molecules 2013; 19:306-15. Abstract
Nitrilimine generated by photolysis of diaryltetrazole in aqueous phase under mild conditions was trapped by nucleophiles including amines and thioalcohols. The representative products were characterized, while products with all 20 natural amino acids and a peptide were observed by MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. Competitive studies showed that this reaction also occurred in the presence of acrylamide. These results provided new information for understanding the potential side reactions when tetrazole-alkene pairs were used as a bioorthogonal reaction in labeling proteins and related studies in buffered systems.
