Abstract
Efficient access to S-methyl dithiocarbamates was achieved with sulfonium or sulfoxonium iodide as a methylation reagent. This method is reliable for the synthesis of dithiocarbamates from primary or secondary amines, with sulfoxonium iodide demonstrating more robust methylation capability than sulfonium iodide. Moreover, it also enables facile access to S-trideuteromethyl dithiocarbamates via sulfoxonium metathesis between sulfoxonium iodide and DMSO-d6 with high yields.

Abstract
A new process has been developed for the bromine-promoted sequential (sp2)C = (sp2)C bond functionalization of (E)-3-styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and furo[b]annulation via the 5-exo-cyclization in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The reaction represents a novel strategy for the synthesis of 2-aryl-3-(methylthio)furo[2,3-b]quinoxalines and involves 3-(1,2-dibromo-2-arylethyl)quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and 2-arylfuro[2,3-b]quinoxalines as key intermediates. Furthermore, DMSO was converted to dimethyl sulfide in situ, which served as the methylthiolation reagent in the reaction. This protocol constitutes an efficient and convenient method for the annulation and methylthiolation of (E)-3-styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones bearing a wide range of functional groups in high yields at room temperature.

Abstract
Abstract:
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is not only a common and cheap aprotic polar solvent with low toxicity, but also serves as an efficient and multipurpose reactant and has widely been used in organic synthesis. DMSO as an important precursor can effectively introducea broad range of functional fragments into organic molecules, such as -Me, -CH, -CH2, -SMe2, -CH2SMe, -CH2SOMe, -SMe, -SO2Me, -SOMe or as O substituents, and serves as a mild oxidant in organic transformations. Many significant achievements based on DMSO as a synthon in synthetic chemistry have rapidly made over the past several years. To help researchers further understand the recent advances in the field, the review summarizes the applications of DMSO as carbon, sulfur, and oxygen sources and is used as the dual synthon in synthetic transformations.

Abstract
In the light of the recent potentials of deuterated molecules as pharmaceuticals or even in mechanistic understanding, efficient methods for their synthesis are continually desired. CD3-containing molecules are prominent amongst these motifs due to the parallel of the "magic methyl effect": introducing a methyl group into pharmaceuticals could positively affect biological activities. The trideuteromethyl group is bound to molecules either by C, N, O, or S atom. For a long time, the preparation methods of such labeled compounds were underestimated and involved multi-step syntheses. More recently, specific approaches dealing with the direct incorporation of the CD3 group have been developed. This Review gives an overview of the methods for the preparation of CD3-labeled molecules from conventional functional group interconversion techniques to catalytic approaches and include radical strategy. Detailed reaction mechanisms are also discussed.

Abstract
N-methylated amines are essential bioactive compounds and have been widely used in the fine and bulk chemical industries, as well as in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and dyes. Developing green, efficient, and low-cost catalysts for methylation of amines by using efficient and easily accessible methylating reagents is highly desired yet remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report the selective N-dimethylation of different functional amines with different functional aldehydes under easy-to-handle and industrially applicable conditions using carbon-supported Ru nanoparticles (Ru/C) as a heterogeneous catalyst. A broad spectrum of amines could be efficiently converted to their corresponding N,N-dimethyl amines with good compatibility of various functional groups. This method is widely applicable to N-dimethylation of primary amines including aromatic, aliphatic amines with formaldehyde, and synthesis of tertiary amines from primary, secondary amines with different functional aldehydes. The advantage of this newly described method includes operational simplicity, high turnover number, the ready availability of the catalyst, and good functional group compatibility. This Ru/C catalyzed N-dimethylation reaction possibly proceeds through a two-step N-methylation reaction process.

Abstract
A new catalytic system for N,N-dimethylamination of primary alcohols using aqueous dimethylamine in the absence of additional organic solvents has been developed. The reaction proceeds via borrowing hydrogen processes, which are atom-efficient and environmentally benign. An iridium catalyst bearing an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand exhibited high performance, without showing any deactivation under aqueous conditions. In addition, valuable N,N-dimethylamine derivatives, including biologically active and pharmaceutical molecules, were synthesized. The practical application of this methodology was demonstrated by a gram-scale reaction.

The oxidovanadium(iv) species [VIVO(L)(acac)] (1) was synthesized by the reaction of VIVO(acac)2 with the thiosemicarbazone HL in refluxing ethanol. The recrystallization of [VIVO(L)(acac)] (1) in DMF, CH3CN or EtOH gave the same product i.e. the dioxidovanadium(v) complex [VVO2(L)] (2a); however, upon recrystallization of 1 in DMSO a distinct compound [VVO2(L')] (2) was formed, wherein the original ligand L- is transformed to a rearranged one, L'-. In the presence of DMSO the ligand in complex 1 is found to undergo methylation at the carbon centre attached to imine nitrogen (aldimine) and transformed to the corresponding VVO2-species through in situ reaction. The synthesized HL and the metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, NMR and EPR spectroscopy. The molecular structure of [VVO2(L')] (2) was determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The methylation of various other ligands and complexes prepared from different vanadium precursors under similar reaction conditions was also attempted and it was confirmed that the imine methylation observed is both ligand and metal precursor specific. Complexes 1 and 2 show in vitro insulin-like activity against insulin responsive L6 myoblast cells, higher than VIVO(acac)2, with complex 1 being more potent. In addition, the in vitro cytotoxicity studies of HL, and of complexes 1 and 2 against the MCF-7 and Vero cell lines were also done. The ligand is not cytotoxic and complex 2 is significantly more cytotoxic than 1. DAPI staining experiments indicate that an increase in the time of incubation and an increase of concentration of the complexes lead to the increase in cell death.

Abstract
Herein, we report a straightforward protocol for the preparation of N,N-dimethylated amines from readily available nitro starting materials using formic acid as a renewable C1 source and silanes as reducing agents. This tandem process is efficiently accomplished in the presence of a cubane-type Mo3 PtS4 catalyst. For the preparation of the novel [Mo3 Pt(PPh3 )S4 Cl3 (dmen)3 ]+ (3+ ) (dmen: N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine) compound we have followed a [3+1] building block strategy starting from the trinuclear [Mo3 S4 Cl3 (dmen)3 ]+ (1+ ) and Pt(PPh3 )4 (2) complexes. The heterobimetallic 3+ cation preserves the main structural features of its 1+ cluster precursor. Interestingly, this catalytic protocol operates at room temperature with high chemoselectivity when the 3+ catalyst co-exists with its trinuclear 1+ precursor. N-heterocyclic arenes, double bonds, ketones, cyanides and ester functional groups are well retained after N-methylation of the corresponding functionalized nitroarenes. In addition, benzylic-type as well as aliphatic nitro compounds can also be methylated following this protocol.

Abstract
A simple air- and moisture-stable, highly efficient ruthenium NNN pincer complex is reported for the first time to catalyze the tandem transformation of various aromatic and aliphatic nitro compounds into the corresponding N-methylated amines in up to 98 % yield by using methanol as a green methylating agent. Gram-scale reactions of challenging nitro substrates demonstrated the practical application aspects of this catalytic system. Importantly, the N-methylamine moiety could be smoothly introduced to various complex molecular structures without using any expensive palladium/phosphine/amine-based cross-coupling reactions.
