Abstract
This systematic study delves into the synthesis and characterization of robust bi-functional aminopropyl-tagged periodic mesoporous organosilica with a high loading of small imidazolium bridges in its framework (PrNH2@R-PMO-IL, ∼2 mmol g-1 of IL). The materials proved to be a reliable and enduring support for the immobilization of Ru species, demonstrating strong performance and excellent selectivity in the meta-bromination of various derivatives of 2-phenylpyridine compounds and other heterocycles, showcasing its effectiveness and robust nature. The synthesized materials were thoroughly characterized to determine their structural properties, such as pore size distribution, loading of organic groups, and surface area, using various analytical techniques. The research aims to improve the catalytic activity of supported ruthenium species in meta-selective bromination reactions through a systematic approach that emphasizes the synergistic effects of the mesoporous structure, concentration of imidazolium incorporated, and aminopropyl functionalization for enhancing the catalytic performance of the supported Ru species in these reactions. Our findings indicate that the developed catalyst system exhibits promise as a recyclable catalyst for meta-C-H activation, offering the potential for multiple reaction cycles and reduced waste production. This study highlights the enhanced catalytic performance and versatility of Ru@PrNH2@R-PMO-IL in comparison with previously documented homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst systems, even when using lower loading levels. This is particularly evident in meta-C-H bromination of challenging substrates, such as 1-phenylpyrazole for the first time under the described catalytic chemical reaction.

Abstract
Diphenylformamide 1 and bisformamide 9 are shown to be safe reservoirs and sources of CO. Their perfectly selective decarbonylations are achieved in solution at room temperature with potassium and cesium diarylamide catalysts. 1 is obtained in excellent yields directly from triethylammonium formate, which may be the product of CO2 scrubbing with NEt3 and catalytic hydrogenation. 1 thus represents a key intermediate in a low-temperature rWGS reaction sequence. Moreover, solvent-free decarbonylations of 1 may be run either in the melt at 70 °C or with 9 even in the solid state at 88 °C with improved atom economy. These simple and practical transition-metal-free decarbonylations afford ultra-pure (i. e. dry and solvent-free) CO at moderate temperatures and the diarylamines byproducts are recycled as pure compounds. In the absence of catalysts, diarylformamides 1 and 9 are long-term stable at >200 °C. DFT-calculations indicate a reaction pathway with a rate-determining deprotonation of Ph2NC(O)H and barrier-free CO elimination from Ph2NC(O)-.

Abstract
The reductive transformation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into high-valued N‑formamides matches well with the atom economy and the sustainable development intention. Nevertheless, developing a noble-free metal catalyst under mild reaction conditions is desirable and challenging. Herein, a caged metal-organic framework (MOFs) [H2N(CH3)2]2{[Ni3(µ3-O)(XN)(BDC)3]·6DMF}n (1) (XN = 6″-(pyridin-4-yl)-4,2″:4″,4″'-terpyridine), H2BDC = terephthalic acid) is harvested, presenting high thermal and chemical stabilities. Catalytic investigation reveals that 1 as a renewable noble-free MOFs catalyst can catalyze the CO2 reduction conversion with aromatic amines tolerated by broad functional groups at least ten times, resulting in various formamides in excellent yields and selectivity under the mildest reaction system (room temperature and 1 bar CO2). Density functional theory (DFT) theoretical studies disclose the applicable reaction path, in which the CO2 hydrosilylation process is initiated by the [Ni3] cluster interaction with CO2 via η2-C, O coordination mode. This work may open up an avenue to seek high-efficiency noble-free catalysts in CO2 chemical reduction into high value-added chemicals.

Abstract
Benzimidazoles are a class of heterocyclic compounds in which a benzene ring is fused to the 4 and 5 positions of an imidazole ring. Benzimidazole refers to the parent compound, while benzimidazoles are a class of heterocyclic compounds having similar ring structures, but different substituents. Benzimidazole derivatives possess a wide range of bioactivities including antimicrobial, anthelmintic, antiviral, anticancer, and antihypertensive activities. Many compounds possessing a benzimidazole skeleton have been employed as drugs in the market. The application of benzimidazoles in other fields has also been documented. The synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives has attracted much attention from chemists and numerous articles on the synthesis of this class of heterocyclic compound have been reported over the years. The condensation between 1,2-benzenediamine and aldehydes has received intensive interest, while many novel methods have been developed. In this article, we will give a comprehensive review of studies on the synthesis of benzimidazole, which date back to 2013. We have also tried to describe reaction mechanisms as much as we can. The work might be useful for chemists who work in the synthesis of heterocycles or drug chemistry.

Abstract
Dihydrogen is one of the sustainable energy vectors envisioned for the future. However, the rapidly reversible and secure storage of large quantities of hydrogen is still a technological and scientific challenge. In this context, this review proposes a recent state-of-the-art on H2 production capacities from the dehydrogenation reaction of ammonia borane (and selected related amine-boranes) as a safer solid source of H2 by hydrolysis (or solvolysis), catalyzed by nanoparticle-based systems. The review groups the results according to the transition metals constituting the catalyst with a mention to their current cost and availability. This includes the noble metals Rh, Pd, Pt, Ru, Ag, as well as cheaper Co, Ni, Cu, and Fe. For each element, the monometallic and polymetallic structures are presented and the performances are described in terms of turnover frequency and recyclability. The structure-property links are highlighted whenever possible. It appears from all these works that the mastery of the preparation of catalysts remains a crucial point both in terms of process, and control and understanding of the electronic structures of the elaborated nanomaterials. A particular effort of the scientific community remains to be made in this multidisciplinary field with major societal stakes.

Abstract
ConspectusMetal-free catalysis is a promising protocol to access chemicals without metal contamination. Ionic liquids (ILs) that are entirely composed of organic cations and inorganic/organic anions have emerged as promising alternatives to molecular solvents and metal catalysts due to their unique properties such as structural tunability, the coexistence of multiple interactions among ions (e.g., electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, van de Waals forces, acid/base interactions, hydrophilic/hydrophobic interactions, etc.), unique affinity for a wide range of chemicals, good chemical and thermal stability, and quite low volatility. ILs have shown potential applications in various chemical processes. In this Account, we systematically described our most recent work on IL-catalyzed approaches under metal-free conditions. The first section presents the IL-catalyzed strategies toward the transformation of CO2 to value-added chemicals, focusing on the CO2-reactive IL-catalyzed CO2 transformation to various heterocycles and the IL-catalyzed reductive transformation of CO2 to chemicals. In these approaches, we designed task-specific ILs that are able to chemically capture and activate CO2 via forming anion-based carbonate/carbamate or cation-based carboxylate/carbamate intermediates, thus further accomplishing its transformation to a series of heterocycles including quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones, cyclic carbonates, 2-oxazolidinones, oxazolones, and benzimidazolones under metal-free conditions. For the IL-catalyzed approaches to reducing CO2 with hydrosilanes to chemicals, we employed ILs capable of activating the Si-H bond in hydrosilanes and the N-H bond in amine substrates via H-bonding, thus achieving the reductive transformation of CO2 to formamides, benzimidazoles, and benzothiazoles via cooperative catalysis. The second section describes our finding on the IL-catalyzed hydration of the C≡C bond in propargylic alcohols. Azolate anion-based ILs that can chemically capture CO2 via the formation of carbamates could serve as robust nucleophiles to attack the C≡C bond in propargylic alcohols and then efficiently catalyze the hydration of propargylic alcohols to produce α-hydroxy ketones with the assistance of atmospheric CO2 gas under metal-free conditions. The third section unveils the cooperative catalysis strategy of hydrogen bond donors and acceptors of ILs for chemical reactions. In the hydrogen-bonding catalysis protocols, cations of the ILs act as H-bond donors and anions, as acceptors, forming H-bonds with the reactant molecules, respectively, in opposite ways, which can cooperatively catalyze the ring-closing C-O/C-O bond metathesis reactions of aliphatic diethers to O-heterocycles, the dehydrative etherification of alcohols to ethers, and direct oxidative esterification of alcohols to esters. We believe that these IL-catalyzed metal-free processes and strategies display promising practical applications, and their commercialization would bring great benefits to the production of the as-afforded value-added chemicals.

Abstract
Hydrogen is the most effective and sustainable carrier of clean energy, and liquid-phase hydrogen storage materials with high hydrogen content, reversibility and good dehydrogenation kinetics are promising in view of "hydrogen economy". Efficient, low-cost, safe and selective hydrogen generation from chemical storage materials remains challenging, however. In this Review article, an overview of the recent achievements is provided, addressing the topic of nanocatalysis of hydrogen production from liquid-phase hydrogen storage materials including metal-boron hydrides, borane-nitrogen compounds, and liquid organic hydrides. The state-of-the-art catalysts range from high-performance nanocatalysts based on noble and non-noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) to emerging single-atom catalysts. Key aspects that are discussed include insights into the dehydrogenation mechanisms, regenerations from the spent liquid chemical hydrides, and tandem reactions using the in situ generated hydrogen. Finally, challenges, perspectives, and research directions for this area are envisaged.

Abstract
Methanation of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) is attractive within the context of a renewable energy refinery. Herein, we report an indirect methanation method that harnesses amino alcohols as relay molecules in combination with a catalyst comprising ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) immobilized on a Lewis acidic and robust metal-organic framework (MOF). The Ru NPs are well dispersed on the surface of the MOF crystals and have a narrow size distribution. The catalyst efficiently transforms amino alcohols to oxazolidinones (upon reaction with CO2 ) and then to methane (upon reaction with hydrogen), simultaneously regenerating the amino alcohol relay molecule. This protocol provides a sustainable, indirect way for CO2 methanation as the process can be repeated multiple times.

Abstract
Heterocycles have been found to be of much importance as several nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocycle compounds exist amongst the various USFDA-approved drugs. Because of the advancement of nanotechnology, nanocatalysis has found abundant applications in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Numerous nanoparticles (NPs) have been utilized for several organic transformations, which led us to make dedicated efforts for the complete coverage of applications of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds reported from 2010 to 2019. Our emphasize during the coverage of catalyzed reactions of the various MNPs such as Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Si, Ti, and Zn has not only been on nanoparticles catalyzed synthetic transformations for the synthesis of heterocyclic scaffolds, but also provide an inherent framework for the reader to select a suitable catalytic system of interest for the synthesis of desired heterocyclic scaffold.

Abstract
N-Formylation of amines with carbon dioxide (CO2) as a carbonyl source is emerging as an important way for CO2 transformation into high-value-added chemicals; however, the developed catalytic systems mainly focused on transition-metal-based homogeneous catalysts. Herein, we reported rationally designed nitrogen-doped graphene nanosheets (NG) as metal-free catalysts for N-formylation of various amines with CO2 and hydrosilane to formamide under mild conditions. The NG catalyst displayed a wide amine scope with the desired formamide yields up to >99%, demonstrating its comparable catalytic performance to the reported transition-metal-based catalysts. Our experimental research reveals that the N-formylation of aniline involves an initial NG-promoted CO2 hydrosilylation with PhSiH3 to silyl formate and a subsequent nucleophilic attack of the aniline to give N-formanilide. Moreover, the key step of CO2 hydrosilylation can be simplified to a pseudo-first-order reaction under a high CO2 concentration with an observed reaction rate constant (kobs) of 226 h-1 at 40 °C and an apparent activation energy (Ea) of 34 kJ mol-1. In sharp contrast, a kobs of 23 h-1 and Ea of 47 kJ mol-1 were observed under catalyst-free conditions. Our theoretical investigation indicates that NG-promoted CO2 hydrosilylation corresponds to an exergonic reaction (ΔG = -0.53 eV), which is much lower in energy state than that of catalyst-free conditions (ΔG = -0.44 eV). Finally, the NG showed outstanding recyclability in the N-formylation reaction with almost unchanged catalytic performance during twelve-time recycling. This research thus represented a breakthrough in metal-free transformation of CO2 into fine chemicals with low-cost, environment-friendly, and carbon-based catalysts to replace the scarce and expensive transition-metal-based catalysts.
