Abstract
Inspired by natural enzymes, this study presents a nickel-based molecular catalyst, [Ni‖(N2S2)]Cl2 (NiN2S2, N2S2=2,11-dithia[3,3](2,6)pyridinophane), for the photochemical catalytic reduction of CO2 under visible light. The catalyst was synthesized and characterized using various techniques, including liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS), UV-Visible spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The crystallographic analysis revealed a slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry with a mononuclear Ni2+ cation, two nitrogen atoms and two sulfur atoms. Photocatalytic CO2 reduction experiments were performed in homogeneous conditions using the catalyst in combination with [Ru(bpy)3]Cl2 (bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) as a photosensitizer and 1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (BIH) as a sacrificial electron donor. The catalyst achieved a high selectivity of 89 % towards CO and a remarkable turnover number (TON) of 7991 during 8 h of visible light irradiation under CO2 in the presence of phenol as a co-substrate. The turnover frequency (TOF) in the initial 6 h was 1079 h-1, with an apparent quantum yield (AQY) of 1.08 %. Controlled experiments confirmed the dependency on the catalyst, light, and sacrificial electron donor for the CO2 reduction process. These findings demonstrate this bioinspired nickel molecular catalyst could be effective for fast and efficient photochemical catalytic reduction of CO2 to CO.

Abstract
Construction of artificial photosynthetic systems including CO2 reduction is a promising pathway to produce carbon-neutral fuels and mitigate the greenhouse effect concurrently. However, the exploitation of earth-abundant catalysts for photocatalytic CO2 reduction remains a fundamental challenge, which can be assisted by a systematic summary focusing on a specific catalyst family. Cobalt-based complexes featuring tripodal ligands should merit more insightful discussion and summarization, as they are one of the most examined catalyst families for CO2 photoreduction. In this feature article, the key developments of cobalt-based tripodal complexes as molecular catalysts for light-driven CO2 reduction are discussed to offer an upcoming perspective, analyzing the present progress in electronic/steric tuning through ligand modification and dinuclear design to achieve a synergistic effect, as well as the bottlenecks for further development.

Abstract
Photochemical CO2 conversion into carbon fuel is a promising route to explore renewable energy and relieve climate change. However, it is still a key challenge to achieve high selectivity to CO and simultaneously achieve high conversion efficiency in photochemical CO2 reduction. Herein, we demonstrate the effect of Ni metal centers as catalytic active sites for the photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to CO by designing and constructing Ni metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) materials. In pure CO2, Ni-MOF catalyst exhibits outstanding performance for visible-light-driven reductive CO2 deoxygenation with a high CO evolution rate of 19.13 μmol h-1 (per 1 mg of catalyst) and CO selectivity of 91.4%, which exceeds those of most reported systems. Upon using isostructural Co-MOF as the catalyst to replace Ni-MOF, a moderate performance towards CO2 photoreduction and low CO selectivity (40.1%) were observed, implying that the performance of CO2 photoreduction and CO selectivity are dependent on unsaturated metal centers.

Abstract
The continuous growth of fossil fuel consumption and large amounts of CO2 emissions have caused global energy crisis and climate change. The employment of semiconductor photocatalysts to convert CO2 into value-added products has attracted extensive attention and research worldwide in recent years. However, it is difficult for a single-component semiconductor photocatalyst to achieve this goal efficiently due to its drawbacks, such as low quantum efficiency, limited surface area, limited number of active sites, the short lifetime of photogenerated carriers, poor long-term stability, and the weak redox ability of carriers. Fortunately, inspired by photosynthesis, the construction of an artificial Z-scheme heterojunction has brought a new dawn for the realization of this goal. The Z-scheme heterojunction has a high separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs with strong redox ability and a wide light response range. The abovementioned advantages make the Z-scheme heterojunction provide a great opportunity for the conversion of CO2 to value-added chemicals. This review concisely reports the progress of the Z-scheme heterojunction in the field of photocatalytic CO2 reduction in recent years, photocatalytic mechanism, choice of oxidation and reduction systems, strategies for improving efficiency, confirmation of the Z-scheme charge transport mechanism, problems and challenges, and the prospects for the future.

Abstract
Photocatalytic CO2 reduction has been considered as a promising approach to solve energy and environmental problems. Nevertheless, developing inexpensive photocatalysts with high efficiency and selectivity remains a big challenge. In this study, two Co-based complexes [Co2(L1)Cl2] (1-Co) and [Co(L2)Cl] (2-Co) were synthesized by treating two DPA-based (DPA: dipicolylamine) ligands with Co2+, respectively. Under visible-light irradiation, the performance of 1-Co as a homogeneous photocatalyst for CO2 reduction in aqueous media has been explored by using [Ru(phen)3]2+ as a photosensitizer, and triethylolamine (TEOA) as a sacrificial reductant. 1-Co shows high photocatalytic activity for CO2-to-CO conversion, corresponding to the high TONCO of 2600 and TOFCO of 260 h-1 (TONCO = turnover number for CO; TOFCO = turnover frequency for CO). High selectivity of 97% for CO formation is also achieved. The control experiments catalyzed by 2-Co demonstrated that two Co(II) centers in 1-Co may operate independently and activate one CO2 molecule each. Furthermore, the proposed mechanism of 1-Co for photocatalytic CO2 reduction has been investigated via electrochemical analysis, a series of quenching experiments, and density functional theory calculations.

Abstract
Two novel two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (2D MOFs), 2D-M2 TCPE (M=Co or Ni, TCPE=1,1,2,2-tetra(4-carboxylphenyl)ethylene), which are composed of staggered (4,4)-grid layers based on paddlewheel-shaped dimers, serve as heterogeneous photocatalysts for efficient reduction of CO2 to CO. During the visible-light-driven catalysis, these structures undergo in situ exfoliation to form nanosheets, which exhibit excellent stability and improved catalytic activity. The exfoliated 2D-M2 TCPE nanosheets display a high CO evolution rate of 4174 μmol g-1 h-1 and high selectivity of 97.3 % for M=Co and Ni, and thus are superior to most reported MOFs. The performance differences and photocatalytic mechanisms have been studied with theoretical calculations and photoelectric experiments. This study provides new insight for the controllable synthesis of effective crystalline photocatalysts based on structural and morphological coregulation.

Abstract
Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to value-added fuel has been considered to be a promising strategy to reduce global warming and shortage of energy. Rational design and synthesis of catalysts to maximumly expose the active sites is the key to activate CO2 molecules and determine the reaction selectivity. Herein, we synthesize a well-defined copper-based boron imidazolate cage (BIF-29) with six exposed mononuclear copper centers for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 . Theoretical calculations show a single Cu site including weak coordinated water delivers a new state in the conduction band near the Fermi level and stabilizes the *COOH intermediate. Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectra show these Cu sites promote the separation of electron-hole pairs and electron transfer. As a result, the cage achieves solar-driven reduction of CO2 to CO with an evolution rate of 3334 μmol g-1 h-1 and a high selectivity of 82.6 %.
