Gold nanoparticle decorated post-synthesis modified UiO-66-NH2 for A3-coupling preparation of propargyl amines

In this report, the novel UiO‑66‑NH₂ based-MOF(Zr) catalytic system which further modified with nitrogen-rich organic ligand (5-aminotetrazole) using post synthetic modification (PSM) approach has been prepared here as an efficient catalyst to promote the A³-coupling preparation of propargyl amines in green aquatic media. This newly highly efficient catalyst was synthesized upon Zr-based MOF (UiO‑66‑NH₂) which successfully functionalized with 2,4,6‑trichloro‑1,3,5‑triazine (TCT) and 5‑aminotetrazole, following through stabilization of gold metal (Au) nanopartilces. The addition of N-rich organic ligand through post-synthesis modification which can be assisted to stabilize the bister and stable gold nanoparticles caused to unique structure of the final composite in favor of the progress of the A³ coupling reaction. Also several strategies comprising XRD, FT-IR, SEM, BET, TEM, TGA, ICP, EDS and elemental mapping analyzes, were used to indicate the successful preparation of the UiO-66-NH₂@ Cyanuric Chloride@ 5-amino tetrazole/Au-NPs. The results of productivity catalyst are accomplished in good to excellent yields for all sort of reactions under mild conditions which is a proof of superior activity heterogeneous catalyst containing Au-nanoparticles. In addition, the suggested catalyst represented excellent reusability with no remarkable loss in activity up 9 sequential runs.

Transition Metal-Catalyzed C-H Functionalization Through Electrocatalysis

Electrochemically promoted transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization has emerged as a promising area of research over the last few decades. However, development in this field is still at an early stage compared to traditional functionalization reactions using chemical-based oxidizing agents. Recent reports have shown increased attention on electrochemically promoted metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization. From the standpoint of sustainability, environmental friendliness, and cost effectiveness, electrochemically promoted oxidation of a metal catalyst offers a mild, efficient, and atom-economical alternative to traditional chemical oxidants. This Review discusses advances in the field of transition metal-electrocatalyzed C-H functionalization over the past decade and describes how the unique features of electricity enable metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization in an economic and sustainable way.

Nanoceria as an Electron Reservoir: Spontaneous Deposition of Metal Nanoparticles on Oxides and Their Anti-inflammatory Activities

Designing metal-metal oxide heteronanostructures with synergistic and superior activities (unattainable in the case of a single entity) is of great interest for a wide range of technological applications. Traditional synthetic strategies typically require reducing agents, stabilizing ligands, or high temperature reductive treatment to produce oxide-supported metals. Herein, a facile noble metal deposition strategy is developed to produce silver, gold, and platinum nanocrystals on the surface of hollow mesoporous cerium oxide nanospheres without any pretreatment. Unlike the galvanic replacement reaction, the developed protocol employs the innate reductive potential of CeO₂ to produce a high density of ultrafine noble metal nanocrystals homogeneously immobilized onto the surface of CeO₂ nanospheres. The multienzyme-like activities (i.e., superoxide dismutase-like and catalase-like) of CeO₂@metal nanostructures, originating from CeO₂ and metal nanoparticles, were effectively utilized for anti-inflammatory therapies in two in vivo models. This oxygen vacancy-mediated reduction strategy can be generalized to produce diverse metal-metal oxide nanostructures for a wide range of applications.

Recent Insight in Transition Metal Anchored on Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Catalysts: Preparation and Catalysis Application

The design and preparation of novel, high-efficiency, and low-cost heterogeneous catalysts are important topics in academic and industry research. In the past, inorganic materials, metal oxide, and carbon materials were used as supports for the development of heterogeneous catalysts due to their excellent properties, such as high specific surface areas and tunable porous structures. However, the properties of traditional pristine carbon materials cannot keep up with the sustained growth and requirements of industry and scientific research, since the introduction of nitrogen atoms into carbon materials may significantly enhance a variety of their physicochemical characteristics, which gradually become appropriate support for synthesizing supported transition metal catalysts. In the past several decades, the transition metal anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts has attracted a tremendous amount of interest as potentially useful catalysts for diverse chemical reactions. Compared with original carbon support, the doping of nitrogen atoms can significantly regulate the physicochemical properties of carbon materials and allow active metal species uniformly dispersed on the support. The various N species in support also play a critical role in accelerating the catalytic performance in some reactions. Besides, the interaction between support and transition metal active sites can offer an anchor site to stabilize metal species during the preparation process and then improve reaction performance, atomic utilization, and stability. In this review, we highlight the recent advances and the remaining challenges in the preparation and application of transition metal anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon catalysts.

A simple synthesis of surfactant-free polycrystalline CuO nanoparticles supported on carbon nanofibers for regioselective hydroboration of alkynes

Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) with a clean surface supported on carbon nanofibers (CNFs) in one-pot were prepared by simple solid-state grinding and aging followed by thermal treatment, yielding CuO nanoparticles with high (23.8 wt%) and uniform CuO loading in the absence of surfactants and solvent. The CuO NPs on CNFs (CuO/CNF) showed excellent catalytic activity in transforming a wide variety of alkynes into alkenyl boronates using B2Pin2 as a boron source in the absence of ligand and additives with high regioselectivity under mild conditions. Moreover, the present CuO/CNF catalyst was recyclable and possesses excellent chemoselectivity. The developed green synthetic approach is expected to offer exciting opportunities for designing monometallic or bimetallic nanoparticle catalysts on different supports applied in heterogeneous catalysis.

Transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bond alkylation using olefins: recent advances and mechanistic aspects

Transition metal catalysis has contributed immensely to C-C bond formation reactions over the last few decades, and alkylation is no exception. The superiority of such methodologies over traditional alkylation is evident from minimal reaction steps, shorter reaction times, and atom economy while also allowing control over regio- and stereo-selectivity. In particular, hydrocarbonation of alkenes has grabbed increased attention due its fundamental ability to effectively and selectively synthesise a wide range of industrially and pharmaceutically relevant moieties. This review attempts to provide a scientific viewpoint and a systematic analysis of the recent developments in transition-metal-catalyzed alkylation of various C-H bonds using simple and activated olefins. The key features and mechanistic studies involved in these transformations are described briefly.

Synthesis and Characterization of Bimetallic Nanoclusters Stabilized by Chiral and Achiral Polyvinylpyrrolidinones. Catalytic C(sp3)-H Oxidation

Second-generation chiral-substituted poly-N-vinylpyrrolidinones (CSPVPs) (-)-1R and (+)-1S were synthesized by free-radical polymerization of (3aR,6aR)- and (3aS,6aS)-5-ethenyl-tetrahydro-2,2-dimethyl-4H-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-c]pyrrol-4-one, respectively, using thermal and photochemical reactions. They were produced from respective d-isoascorbic acid and d-ribose. In addition, chiral polymer (-)-2 was also synthesized from the polymerization of (S)-3-(methoxymethoxy)-1-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one. Molecular weights of these chiral polymers were measured using HRMS, and the polymer chain tacticity was studied using ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. Chiral polymers (-)-1R, (+)-1S, and (-)-2 along with poly-N-vinylpyrrolidinone (PVP, MW 40K) were separately used in the stabilization of Cu/Au or Pd/Au nanoclusters. CD spectra of the bimetallic nanoclusters stabilized by (-)-1R and (+)-1S showed close to mirror-imaged CD absorption bands at wavelengths 200-300 nm, revealing that bimetallic nanoclusters' chiroptical responses are derived from chiral polymer-encapsulated nanomaterials. Chemo-, regio-, and stereo-selectivity was found in the catalytic C-H group oxidation reactions of complex bioactive natural products, such as ambroxide, menthofuran, boldine, estrone, dehydroabietylamine, 9-allogibberic acid, and sclareolide, and substituted adamantane molecules, when catalyst Cu/Au (3:1) or Pd/Au (3:1) stabilized by CSPVPs or PVP and oxidant H₂O₂ or t-BuOOH were applied. Oxidation of (+)-boldine N-oxide 23 using NMO as an oxidant yielded 4,5-dehydroboldine 27, and oxidation of (-)-9-allogibberic acid yielded C6,15 lactone 47 and C6-ketone 48.

C-H Bond Activation Mechanism by a Pd(II)-(μ-O)-Au(0) Structure Unique to Heterogeneous Catalysts

We focused on identifying a catalytic active site structure at the atomic level and elucidating the mechanism at the elementary reaction level of liquid-phase organic reactions with a heterogeneous catalyst. In this study, we experimentally and computationally investigated efficient C-H bond activation for the selective aerobic α,β-dehydrogenation of saturated ketones by using a Pd-Au bimetallic nanoparticle catalyst supported on CeO₂ (Pd/Au/CeO₂) as a case study. Detailed characterization of the catalyst with various observation methods revealed that bimetallic nanoparticles formed on the CeO₂ support with an average size of about 2.5 nm and comprised a Au nanoparticle core and PdO nanospecies dispersed on the core. The formation mechanism of the nanoparticles was clarified through using several CeO₂-supported controlled catalysts. Activity tests and detailed characterizations demonstrated that the dehydrogenation activity increased with the coordination numbers of Pd-O species in the presence of Au(0) species. Such experimental evidence suggests that a Pd(II)-(μ-O)-Au(0) structure is the true active site for this reaction. Based on density functional theory calculations using a suitable Pd₁O₂Au₁₂ cluster model with the Pd(II)-(μ-O)-Au(0) structure, we propose a C-H bond activation mechanism via concerted catalysis in which the Pd atom acts as a Lewis acid and the adjacent μ-oxo species acts as a Brønsted base simultaneously. The calculated results reproduced the experimental results for the selective formation of 2-cyclohexen-1-one from cyclohexanone without forming phenol, the regioselectivity of the reaction, the turnover-limiting step, and the activation energy.
