Abstract
Dendrimers, being highly branched monodispersed macromolecules, predominantly exhibit identical terminal functionalities within their structural framework. Nonetheless, there are instances where the presence of two distinct surface functionalities becomes advantageous for the fulfilment of specific properties. To achieve this objective, one approach involves implementing Janus dendrimers, consisting of two dendrimeric wedges terminated by dissimilar functionalities. The prevalent method for creating these structures involves the synthesis of dendrons that possess a core functionality that complements that of a second dendron, facilitating their coupling to generate the desired dendrimers. In this comprehensive review, various techniques employed in the fabrication of phosphorus-based Janus dendrimers are elucidated, displaying the different coupling methodologies employed between the two units. The advantages of phosphorus dendrimers over classic dendrimers will be shown, as the presence of at least one phosphorus atom in each generation allows for the easy monitoring of reactions and the confirmation of purity through a simple technique such as 31P NMR, as these structures typically exhibit easily interpretable patterns.

Abstract
In this work, four manganese(II) complexes derived from the ligands H2L1-H2L4, that incorporate dansyl or tosyl fluorescent dyes, have been investigated in term of their antioxidant properties. Two of the manganese(II) complexes have been newly prepared using the asymmetric half-salen ligand H2L2 and the thiosemicarbazone ligand H2L3. The four organic strands and the manganese complexes have been characterized by different analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The study of the antioxidant behaviour of these two new complexes and other two fluorophore-labelled analogues was tested in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. These four model complexes 1-4 were found to protect cells from oxidative damage in this human neuronal model, by reducing the release of reactive oxygen species. Complexes 1-4 significantly improved cell survival, with levels between 79.1 ± 0.8% and 130.9 ± 4.1%. Moreover, complexes 3 and 4 were able to restore the mitochondrial membrane potential at 1 μM, with 4 reaching levels higher than 85%, similar to the percentages obtained by the positive control agent cyclosporin A. The incorporation of the fluorescent label in the complexes allowed the study of their ability to enter the human neuroblastoma cells by confocal microscopy.

Abstract
A cross‐reactive optical sensor array based on poly(p‐phenyleneethynylene)s (PPEs) determines Edman degraded amino acids. We report a sensor array composed of three anionic PPEs P1–P3, and their electrostatic complexes with metal ions (Fe2+, Cu2+, Co2+). We recorded distinct fluorescence intensity response patterns as “fingerprints” of this chemical tongue toward standard phenylthiohydantoin (PTH) amino acids—degradation products of the Edman process. These “fingerprints” were converted into canonical scores by linear discrimination analysis (LDA), which differentiates all of the PTH‐amino acids. This array discriminates PTH‐amino acid residues degraded from an oligopeptide through Edman sequencing. This approach is complementary to chromatography approaches which rely on mass spectrometry; our array offers the advantage of simplicity.

Abstract
A self-assembled nine-element optoelectronic tongue consisting of a positively charged water-soluble poly(para-phenyleneethynylene) and three metal ions (Fe2+ , Co2+ , and Cu2+ ) at three different pH values (7, 10, and 13) discriminates all of the 20 natural amino acids in water. Unknown identification was not ideal. Addition of a highly positively charged green fluorescent protein in the presence of Fe2+ , Co2+ , and Cu2+ increased the unknown identification to above 86 %. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) orders the responses according to the amino acid type, that is, hydrophobic, polar, anionic, or cationic.

Abstract
We have designed two novel dendrimers with cyclam cores with appended poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrons, decorated at the periphery with four and eight dansyl chromophores, respectively. The photophysical properties of the dendrimers and their Nd(3+) complexes have been investigated. The energy-transfer efficiency to the lanthanide ions from these dendrimers has been studied as a function of the generation. It has been observed that an increase in the dendrimer generation as well as the number of amide units enhances the energy transfer to the lanthanide ion.

Abstract
Two synthetic routes to "Janus"-type dendrimers possessing ammonium groups on one side and fluorescent dansyl derivatives on the other side are described. These surface-block dendrimers are obtained by the coupling of two different dendrons, built from the hexafunctional cyclotriphosphazene core. Their characterization and their photophysical behavior are reported. The largest compound possesses 10 ammonium groups and 5 dansyl groups; it is potentially useful as a fluorescent label in materials science and biology.

Abstract
We report the photophysical properties (absorption and emission spectra, quantum yield, and lifetime) of five dendrimers of first generation based on a TREN (tris(2-aminoethyl)amine) skeleton functionalized at the periphery with naphthyl and/or 5-dimethylamino-1-naphthalenesulfonamide (hereafter called dansyl) chromophores. Each dendrimer comprises one tertiary amine unit in the core and three branches carrying a sulfonimido unit at the periphery, each one substituted by two identical or different moieties. In particular, TD6 and TN6 contain dansyl (D) or naphthyl (N) units, respectively, while TD3B3, TN3B3 and TN3D3 contain dansyl, naphthyl or benzyl (B) units at the periphery. The spectroscopic behaviour of these dendrimers has been investigated in acetonitrile solution and compared with that of reference compounds. For all dendrimers the absorption bands are red shifted compared to those of monomeric naphthyl and dansyl reference compounds. Moreover, the intense naphthyl and dansyl fluorescence is greatly quenched because of strong interactions between the two aromatic moieties linked by a sulfonimido unit. Protonation of the amine units of the dendrimers by addition of CF(3)SO(3)H (triflic) acid causes a decrease in intensity of the luminescence and a change in the shape of the emission bands. The shapes of the titration curves depend on the dendrimer, but in any case the effect of acid can be fully reversed by successive addition of base (tributylamine). The obtained results reveal that among the intradendrimer interactions the most important one is that taking place (via mesomeric interaction) between the various chromophores and a pair of sulfonimido groups.
