Rearrangement of a (Dithiolato)platinum(II) Complex Formed by Reaction of Cyclic Disulfide 7,8-Dithiabicyclo[4.2.1]nona-2,4-diene with a Platinum(0) Complex: Oxidation of the Rearranged (Dithiolato)platinum(II) Complex

Preparation and Optical and Electrochemical Properties of Boron (III) Octafluorosubphthalocyanines with One Triselenole and One Diselenet Ring

Unsymmetric boron (III) subphthalocyanines with a triselenole ring or a diselenete ring and eight fluoro groups were prepared by the reaction of 5,6-dicyano-4,7-diethylbenzo-[1,2,3]triselenole and tetrafluorophthalonitrile with trichloroborane in xylene. The reaction was accompanied by a contraction of the triselenole ring to the diselenete ring. The substrate, dicyanobenzo[1,2,3]triselenole, was prepared by a new procedure via a photolytic demethylenation reaction of 3,7-diethyl[1,3]diselenolophthalonitrile using a 10 W white LED light. While triselenolosubphthalocyanine was treated by triphenylphosphine to give the diselenete derivative, the reaction of diselenetosubphthalocyanine with Woolion's reagent produced the expanded triselenole ring. The diselenete derivative reacted with tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)platinum to yield the corresponding platinum complex with Se-Pt bonds. Q-band absorption for the products appeared at around λmax=590 nm in the UV-vis spectrum and weak emission was observed at about λe=620 nm. When diselenetosubphthalocyanine was treated with pentachloro antimonate in dichloromethane or sodium metal in hexane/tetrahydrofuran, the solution showed strong ESR signals. The structures of model compounds were optimized using the DFT method with the Gaussian 09 program at the B3LYP/6-31G (d, p) level.

Photochemical Oxidation of Pt(IV)Me3(1,2-diimine) Thiolates to Luminescent Pt(IV) Sulfinates

We report the formation of dinuclear complexes from, and photochemical oxidation of, (CH₃)₃-Pt(IV)(N^N) (N^N = 1,2-diimine derivatives) complexes of thiophenolate ligands to the analogous sulfinates (CH₃)₃Pt(N^N)(SO₂Ph) and structural, spectroscopic, and theoretical studies of the latter revealing tunable photophysics depending upon the 1,2-diimine ligands. Electron-rich thiolate and conjugated 1,2-diimines encourage formation of thiolate-bridged dinuclear complexes; smaller 1,2-diimines or electron-poor thiolates favor mononuclear complexes. Photooxidation of the thiolate ligand yields hitherto unreported Pt(IV)-SO₂R complexes, promoted by electron-deficient thiolates such as 4-nitrothiophenol, which exclusively forms the sulfinate complex. Such complexes exhibit expected absorptions due to π-π* ligand transitions of the 1,2-diimines mixed with spin-allowed singlet MLCT (d-π*) at relatively high energy (270-290 nm), as well as unexpected broad, lower energy absorptions between 360 and 490 nm. DFT data indicate that these low energy absorption bands result from excitation of Pt-S and Pt-C σ-bonding electrons to π* orbitals on sulfinate and 1,2-diimine, the latter of which gives rise to emission in the visible range.

Synthesis, characterization and biological investigation of platinum(ii) complexes with asparagusic acid derivatives as ligands

After more than 50 years of platinum-based anticancer research only three compounds are in clinical use worldwide. The use of the well-known lead compound of this class of anticancer agents, cisplatin, is limited by its side effects and varying resistance mechanisms. Therefore, we report on platinum(ii) compounds with asparagusic acid derivatives as ligands which show interesting anticancer results on cisplatin resistant cell lines.
