Abstract
In this work, anchoring of cinchona derivatives to trifunctional cores (hub approach) was demonstrated to obtain size-enlarged organocatalysts. By modifying the cinchona skeleton in different positions, we prepared four C3-symmetric size-enlarged cinchona derivatives (hub-cinchonas), which were tested as organocatalysts and their catalytic activities were compared with the parent cinchona (hydroquinine) catalyst. We showed that in the hydroxyalkylation reaction of indole, hydroquinine provides good enantioselectivities (up to 73% ee), while the four new size-enlarged derivatives resulted in significantly lower values (up to 29% ee) in this reaction. Anchoring cinchonas to trifunctional cores was found to facilitate nanofiltration-supported catalyst recovery using the PolarClean alternative solvent. The C3-symmetric size-enlarged organocatalysts were completely rejected by all the applied membranes, whereas the separation of hydroquinine was found to be insufficient when using organic solvent nanofiltration. Furthermore, the asymmetric catalysis was successfully demonstrated in the case of the Michael reaction of 1,3-diketones and trans-β-nitrostyrene using Hub3-cinchona (up to 96% ee) as a result of the positive effect of the C3-symmetric structure using a bulkier substrate. This equates to an increased selectivity of the catalyst in comparison to hydroquinine in the latter Michael reaction.

Abstract
A generally useful Ni(II)/trisoxazoline-catalyzed asymmetric sulfa-Michael/Aldol cascade reaction is introduced to access chiral 3-amine-tetrahydrothiophene derivatives containing a quaternary stereocenter (32 examples, up to 93% yield, > 20:1 dr and 92% ee). Moreover, the novel strategy offers an efficient and convenient approach to construct chiral thionucleoside analogues.

Abstract
We report an extensive study on the coordination behavior of chiral ditopic bridging ligands, which lead to metallosupramolecular polymers in the presence of Zn(II) and Cu(II) in solution. With the help of UV-vis and circular dichroism spectroscopies, we show that the metallopolymer sequence can be controlled by chirality and by the choice of the metal ion. Although the formation of a block metallopolymer proceeds through the assembly of homoleptic complexes, an alternate metallopolymer may be obtained only when heteroleptic complexes are formed. This demonstrates how the prevalent coordination geometries at metal centers may be used to control the sequences of the metallopolymers.

Abstract
Recently introduced tris(1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methanols and derivatives (TTM ligands) have become a valuable subclass of C3-symmetric tripodal ligands for transition metal-mediated reactions. TTM-based ligand architectures are modularly constructed through regioselective, one-pot triple [3+2] cycloaddition of azides and alkynes. Applications of homogeneous systems of this type and of heterogenised (polystyrene- and magnetic nanoparticle-supported) TTM ligands in synthesis and catalysis are compiled in this Feature Article.

Abstract
A one-pot asymmetric synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazoles has been developed via an enantioselective [3 + 3] annulation of 2-alkynylindoles and donor-acceptor cyclopropanes. In the presence of chiral Lewis acids as catalysts, a series of optically active tetrahydrocarbazoles were furnished in high yields (63-87%) with good to excellent levels of enantioselectivity (up to 94% ee).

Abstract
The first highly diastereoselective and enantioselective catalytic formal [4 + 3] cycloaddition of 1,1-cyclobutane diester with nitrone has been developed. Sterically hindered chiral SaBOX/Cu(II) complex promotes the reaction efficiently with a broad substrate scope, producing a range of multifunctionalized optically active 1,2-oxazepanes with excellent stereocontrol (up to >99/1 dr and 97% ee).

Abstract
In asymmetric catalysis, the remote control of enantioselection is usually difficult due to the long distance communication between the chiral center of the catalyst and the reactive site of the substrate. The development of efficient and highly enantioselective catalysts for such reactions is of great importance and highly desirable. The stereocontrol over an asymmetric reaction is a delicate process (ca. 3.0 kcal/mol difference in transition states can lead to >99/1 enantiomeric selectivity at room temperature), it therefore requires fine-tuning on the electronic nature of the central metal together with a precisely created cavity to accommodate the substrates and reagents. We envision that a solution is the design of new catalysts by finding an easy and efficient way to tune the electronic properties, the chiral space, and the shape of the catalytic site. Since an extra coordination group in the organometallic complex could not only alter the microenvironment around the metal center in a three-dimensional manner but also tune the electronic properties of the metal center, about 10 years ago, we introduced a side arm strategy for ligand/catalyst design. This Account describes our efforts toward this goal. Based on this side arm strategy, we have developed two series of ligands based on the bisoxazoline framework; namely, trisoxazoline (TOX) ligands and side armed bisoxazoline (SaBOX). The "side arms" are shown to play multiple roles in different cases, for example, as a ligating group, a steric group, or a directing group, which are dependent on the metal and the functionality at the side arm. Metal catalysts based on these ligands have proven to be highly efficient for a number of asymmetric transformations, including Friedel-Crafts reaction, Kinugasa reaction, Nazarov reaction, 1,2-Stevens rearrangement, Cannizzaro reaction, and cyclopropanation. In comparison with the parent BOX ligands, the metal catalysts based on these TOX and SaBOX ligands usually exhibit higher efficiency and diastereo- and enantioselectivity with better impurity tolerance and stability. Moreover, in several TOX-metal complex catalyzed reactions such as Friedel-Crafts reaction and [3 + 2] cycloaddition, stereoselectivity could be switched based on reaction conditions. These ligands were particularly prominent in the remote controls of enantioselection such as the conjugate additions to alkylidene malonates and ring-opening/cyclization cascades of cyclopropanes, for which high stereoselectivity is usually difficult to achieve due to the poor chiral communication. The works by us and other groups have demonstrated that the side arm strategy can be employed as a general principle for ligand and catalyst design and should not be limited to the BOX scaffolds and the reactions described in this Account. Wide application of the new strategy in organometallic homogeneous catalysis can be anticipated.

Abstract
Diazo compounds continue both to challenge and to fascinate practitioners of chemical synthesis. The most strategically powerful and unique type of reactivity observed with these reagents is a formal insertion of the donor-acceptor carbon into C-C or C-H bonds alpha to carbonyl groups. Although the reaction does not involve discrete carbon-metal bonds, it can be catalyzed by metal-based Lewis acids. This chapter investigates both classical and modern developments in diazoalkyl carbon insertion with a special emphasis on nonstabilized nucleophiles.

Abstract
A series of chiral mono-, di-, and trinuclear gold(I) complexes have been prepared and used as precatalysts in the asymmetric cyclohydroamination of N-protected γ-allenyl sulfonamides. The stereodirecting ligands were mono-, di-, and tridentate 2,5-diphenylphospholanes, which possessed C(1), C(2), and C(3) symmetry, respectively, thereby rendering the catalytic sites in the di- and trinuclear complexes symmetry equivalent. The C(3)-symmetric trinuclear complex displayed the highest activity and enantioselectivity (up to 95 % ee), whilst its mono- and dinuclear counterparts exhibited considerably lower enantioselectivities and activities. A similar trend was observed in a series of mono-, di-, and trinuclear 2,5-dimethylphospholane gold(I) complexes. Aurophilic interactions were established from the solid-state structures of the trinuclear gold(I) complexes, thereby raising the question as to whether these secondary forces were responsible for the different catalytic behavior observed.
