Abstract
The present study reports an asymmetric organocatalytic cascade reaction of oxindole derivates with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes efficiently catalyzed by simple chiral secondary amine. Spirooxindole-fused cyclopentanes were produced in excellent isolated yields (up to 98%) with excellent enantiopurities (up to 99% ee) and moderate to high diastereoselectivities. The synthetic utility of the protocol was exemplified on a set of additional transformations of the corresponding spiro compounds. In addition, a study showing the promising biological activity of selected enantioenriched products was accomplished.

Abstract
An efficient, highly stereoselective asymmetric synthesis of fully functionalized cyclopentanes bearing an oxindole moiety and several other functional groups in one pot has been developed. Key step is an organocatalytic triple Michael domino reaction forming three C-C bonds and six stereocenters, including a quaternary one. Starting from equimolar amounts of simple substrates, a high molecular complexity can be reached after a Wittig olefination in one pot. The new protocol can easily be scaled up to gram amounts.

Abstract
β,β-Disubstituted nitroalkenes readily undergo palladium-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition with trimethylenemethane to generate nitrocyclopentanes in excellent yield and enantioselectivity. The reaction provides access to heavily substituted cyclopentanes containing up to three contiguous stereocenters, and the products may be converted to both cyclopentylamines and cyclopentenones. A rare dependence of the sense of chirality of the cycloadducts was observed to be exclusively dependent on the structure of the palladium-bound trimethylenemethane intermediate.

Abstract
While beta-ketoesters are useful Michael donors, they were previously ineffective in Michael-Michael cascade reactions using alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes in conjunction with diphenylprolinol silyl ether organocatalysts. However, through rational modification of substrates and manipulation of the catalytic cycle, we developed an efficient Michael-Michael cascade reaction using beta-ketoesters of type 9. In this transformation, highly substituted fused carbocycles are generated in a single step in up to 87% yield and 99% ee.
