A Cobalt Metallacrown Anion Host with Guest-Dependent Redox Activity

Ligand-Directed Metalation of a Gold Pyrazolate Cluster

Solid "[AuL]" (HL = 3-[pyrid-2-yl]-5-tertbutyl-1H-pyrazole) can be crystallized as cyclic [Au₃(μ-L)₃] and [Au₄(μ-L)₄] clusters from different solvents. The crystalline tetramer contains a square Au₄ core with an HT:TH:TH:HT arrangement of ligand substituents, which preorganizes the cluster to chelate to additional metal ions via its pendant pyridyl groups. The addition of 0.5 equiv of AgBF₄ to [AuL] yields [Ag₂Au₄(μ₃-L)₄][BF₄]₂, where two edges of the Au₄ square are spanned by Ag⁺ ions via metallophilic Ag···Au contacts. Treatment of [AuL] with [Cu(NCMe)₄]PF₆ affords the metalloligand helicate [Cu₂Au₂(μ-L)₄][PF₆]₂, via oxidation of the copper and partial fragmentation of the cluster.

A mixed-valence [CoII4CoIII2] cluster with defect disk-shaped topology

The employment of the new Schiff base ligand 2-[(4-chloro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)methyl]phenol (H2L) bearing O2N donors for the preparation of a novel Co6 cluster is reported. The hexanuclear cobalt complex, namely, di-μ2-acetatotetrakis{μ2-2-[(4-chloro-2-oxidobenzylideneamino)methyl]phenolato}tetra-μ3-methanolato-tetracobalt(II)dicobalt(III), [CoII4CoIII2(C14H10ClNO2)4(CH3COO)2(CH3O)4], was obtained using Co(CH3COO)2·4H2O and H2L as starting materials in MeOH under solvothermal conditions. The six metal ions are linked together by the μ3-O atoms of four deprotonated MeOH molecules, two CH3COO- units and six phenolate O atoms of four L2- ligands to form a defect disk-shaped topology. DC magnetic susceptibility investigations revealed the existence of antiferromagnetic interactions in the Co6 cluster.

Filling the Gap in the Metallacrown Family: The 9-MC-3 Chromium Metallacrown

In this work, we report on a long‐sought missing complex in the metallacrown family. We synthesized and characterized the novel chromium metallacrown (MC) complex {Cr^III(μ₂‐piv)₃[9‐MC_{Cr(III)N(shi)}‐3](morph)₃}⋅MeOH (in which shi³⁻=salicyl hydroxamate, piv=pivalate, and morph=morpholine). The MC with a 9‐MC‐3 cavity of kinetically inert chromium(III) ions was synthesized by a solvothermal reaction. Magnetization measurements reveal a high spin ground state.

A heterometallic Cd/Ag/Se complex incorporating 3-ferrocenyl-5-(2-pyridyl)pyrazolato (fcpp) ligands: synthesis and structure of [Cd2{Ag(SePh)}2(μ3-OH2)2(μ2,η3-fcpp)4]·2C3H6O

A self-assembly reaction of Cd(NO3)2 · 4H2O, 3-ferrocenyl-5-(2-pyridyl)-pyrazole (Hfcpp), [Ag(SePh)] n , and Et3N in a mixed acetone-water solvent resulted in the formation of a heterometallic complex [Cd2{Ag(SePh)}2 (μ 3-OH2)2(μ 2,η 3-fcpp)4] · 2C3H6O (1) with a phenylselenolate ligand. The two cadmium and two silver centers are linked by four [μ 2,η 3-fcpp]− ligands and two μ 3-OH2 water molecules. Each Cd atom is in a slightly distorted octahedral coordination environment, while each Ag atom shows a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry, which is composed of two pyrazolyl nitrogen atoms, one selenium atom, and one oxygen atom.

Field-induced slow magnetic relaxation in the first Dy(iii)-centered 12-metallacrown-4 double-decker

The first double-decker Ga(iii)/Dy(iii) 12-MC-4 complex has been isolated and magnetic studies revealed its SMM properties.

A family of 12-azametallacrown-4 structural motif with heterometallic Mn(III) -Ln-Mn(III) -Ln (Ln=Dy, Er, Yb, Tb, Y) alternate arrangement and single-molecule magnet behavior

Mixed 3d-4f 12-azametallacrown-4 complexes, [Mn2 Ln2 (OH)2 (hppt)4 (OAc)2 (DMF)2 ]⋅2 DMF⋅H2 O [Ln=Dy (1), Er (2), Yb (3), Tb (4) and Y (5), H2 hppt=3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(pyrazin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole)], were synthesized by reactions of H2 hppt with Mn(OAc)2 ⋅4 H2 O and Ln(NO3 )3 ⋅6 H2 O. This is the first 3d-4f azametallacrown family to incorporate Ln ions into the ring sets. These isostructural complexes exhibit alternating arrangements of two Mn and two Ln ions in the rings with each pair of metal centers bound by an NN group and μ2 -O bridging. Magnetic measurements revealed dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between metal centers, and frequency-dependent out-of-phase (${\chi {^\prime}{^\prime}_{\rm{M}} }$) signals below 4 K suggest slow relaxation of magnetization.

Solvent dependent reactivities of di-, tetra- and hexanuclear manganese complexes: syntheses, structures and magnetic properties

An unusual solvent effect on the synthesis of five manganese complexes [Mn2(L1)2(Py)4](), [Mn2(L1)2(DMSO)4](), [Mn4(L2)4(OH)4](), [Mn4(L3)2(DMSO)7(H2O)](), and [Mn6O2(L4)4(OAc)2(OMe)2(DMSO)4]·MeOH] (), (H3L1 = 5-(2-oxyphenyl)-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid; H2L2 = 5-(2-oxyphenyl)-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid amide; H4L3 = di-[5-(2-oxyphenyl)-pyrazole]-3-hydroxamic ether; and H2L4 = 5-(2-oxyphenyl)-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester) has been reported. Five complexes have been characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, IR, element analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and UV-vis spectra. The analysis reveals that complexes and are isostructural with a bimetallic six-membered ring and L1 from the decomposition of the original H4ppha (H4ppha = 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-pyrazole-3-hydroxamic acid) ligand. Complexes and are two tetranuclear clusters, and possesses an aza12-metallacrown-4 core with L2 from the amide functionalization of the decomposition L1; while represents a novel linear [Mn4N8O2] core with L3 from the condensation of L1 and H4ppha. Complex is the first Mn6 cluster linked by two stacked, off-set 8-azametallacrown-3 subunits with [M-N-N-M-N-N-M-O] connectivity, and L4 derived from the esterification of L1. The magnetic behaviour of complexes show the dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between metal centers, whereas complex further reveals the coexistence of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions, and slow magnetic relaxation at T < 6 K with S = 4 ground state, as well as field induced magnetization saturation.

22-Azametallacrown-8 complex with a triazole-bridged ligand: synthesis, structure and magnetic properties

Reaction of Mn(OAc)2·4H2O with the H2L ligand affords a new manganese 22-MC-8 azametallacrown [Mn8(μ3-O)2(μ3-OH)2(μ2-OH)2(L)6(OAc)2(OH2)4]·2DMF (H2L = 3-(2-oxyphenyl)-5-(pyrazin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole). The structural analysis of the complex reveals that the azaMC ring possesses -[Mn-O-Mn-N-N-Mn-N-N-Mn-N-N]- connectivity. The magnetic behavior of the complex shows the dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between the manganese ions with S = 4 and the frequency-dependent out-of-phase signal.
