Abstract
The synthesis and photophysical properties of the heteropolynuclear Pt-Ag complex having cyclometalated rollover bipyridine ligands (bpy*) and bridging pyrazolato ligands are reported. The Pt2Ag2 complex was synthesized by two step reactions from a Pt(II) complex precursor having the rollover bpy* ligand, [Pt(bpy*)(dmso)Cl], with 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (Me2pzH) and a subsequent replacement of NH protons in the Me2pzH moieties with the Ag(I) ion. The Pt2Ag2 complex exists as a mixture of U- and Z-shaped isomers in solution, whose structures were clearly determined by single-crystal X-ray structural analyses. NMR studies using the single crystals revealed rapid isomerization of the Pt2Ag2 complexes in solution, although the Pt2Ag2 structures were supported effectively by the multiple metal-metal interactions. Furthermore, the Pt2Ag2 framework can capture a Ag(I) ion during the U-Z isomerization to afford a Pt2Ag3 core with the formation of Pt → Ag dative bonds. The Pt2Ag3 complex showed further aggregation to form a dimer structure in the presence of coordinating solvent via the crystallization process. The formation of Pt → Ag dative bonds significantly changes the emission energy from the Pt2Ag2 complex, while the emission spectra of U- and Z-isomers of Pt2Ag2 complex almost coincide with each other and their emissive properties are very similar. The density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) calculations revealed the effects of additional Ag(I) ion on the photophysical properties of the heteropolynuclear Pt-Ag complexes bearing the rollover bpy* ligands.

Abstract
Rollover cyclometalation constitutes a particular case of cyclometallation reaction. This reaction occurs when a chelated heterocyclic ligand loses its bidentate coordination mode and undergoes an internal rotation, after which a remote C-H bond is regioselectively activated, affording an uncommon cyclometalated complex, called "rollover cyclometalated complex". The key of the process is the internal rotation of the ligand, which occurs before the C-H bond activation and releases from coordination a donor atom. The new "rollover" ligand has peculiar properties, being a ligand with multiple personalities, no more a spectator in the reactivity of the complex. The main reason of this peculiarity is the presence of an uncoordinated donor atom (the one initially involved in the chelation), able to promote a series of reactions not available for classic cyclometalated complexes. The rollover reaction is highly regioselective, because the activated C-H bond is usually in a symmetric position with respect to the donor atom which detaches from the metal stating the rollover process. Due to this novel behavior, a series of potential applications have appeared in the literature, in fields such as catalysis, organic synthesis, and advanced materials.

Abstract
The reaction of the cyclometalated rollover complex [Pt(bpy-H)(Me)(DMSO)] (bpy-H = cyclometalated 2,2'-bipyridine) with two diphosphines, dppm (1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) and dppe (1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane), was investigated. According to the reaction conditions, dppm behaves as a monodentate, bridging or chelated ligand, whereas dppe gave only chelated species. Some aspects of the reactivity of the isolated species were studied, including protonation with [H3O·18-crown-6][BF4] and coordination reactions of mononuclear complexes, obtaining, inter alia, rare examples of unsymmetrical organometallic species with bridging dppm.

Abstract
On reaction of 2,2'-bipyridine with iridium(iii), an "aggregation induced phosphorescence (AIP)" active "rollover" complex, [Ir(PPh3)2(bipy-H)(Cl)(H)] (bipy-H = κ(2)-N,C-2,2'-bipyridine) or [Ir(bipy-H)], is obtained. The emission colour changes from bluish-green to yellowish-orange and vice versa after repeated protonation and deprotonation of [Ir(bipy-H)], respectively, which unequivocally supports its reversible nature. [Ir(bipy-H)] is sensitive to acids with different pKa values. Tuning of the emission properties can be achieved in the presence of acids with different pKas. This behaviour allows the complex, [Ir(bipy-H)], to function as a phosphorescent acid sensor in both solution and the solid state, as well as a chemosensor for detecting acidic and basic organic vapours. The protonated form, [Ir(bipy-H)H(+)], which is generated after protonation of [Ir(bipy-H)] can be used as a solvatochromic probe for oxygen containing solvents, and also shows vapochromic properties. The emission, absorption and (1)H NMR spectra of [Ir(bipy-H)] under acidic and basic conditions demonstrate its reversible nature. DFT based calculations suggest that changes in the electron affinity of the pyridinyl rings are responsible for all these processes.

Abstract
Although four-coordinate square-planar geometries, with a formally 16-electron counting, are absolutely dominant in isolated Pt(II) complexes, three-coordinate, 14-electron Pt(II) complexes are believed to be key intermediates in a number of platinum-mediated organometallic transformations. Although very few authenticated three-coordinate Pt(II) complexes have been characterized, a much larger number of complexes can be described as operationally three-coordinate in a kinetic sense. In these compounds, which we have called masked T-shaped complexes, the fourth position is occupied by a very weak ligand (agostic bond, solvent molecule or counteranion), which can be easily displaced. This review summarizes the structural features of the true and masked T-shaped Pt(II) complexes reported so far and describes synthetic strategies employed for their formation. Moreover, recent experimental and theoretical reports are analyzed, which suggest the involvement of such intermediates in reaction mechanisms, particularly C-H bond-activation processes.

Abstract
In the ion/molecule reactions of the cyclometalated platinum complexes [Pt(L-H)](+) (L=2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), 2-phenylpyridine (phpy), and 7,8-benzoquinoline (bq)) with linear and branched alkanes C(n)H(2n+2) (n=2-4), the main reaction channels correspond to the eliminations of dihydrogen and the respective alkenes in varying ratios. For all three couples [Pt(L-H)](+)/C(2)H(6), loss of C(2)H(4) dominates clearly over H(2) elimination; however, the mechanisms significantly differs for the reactions of the "rollover"-cyclometalated bipy complex and the classically cyclometalated phpy and bq complexes. While double hydrogen-atom transfer from C(2)H(6) to [Pt(bipy-H)](+), followed by ring rotation, gives rise to the formation of [Pt(H)(bipy)](+), for the phpy and bq complexes [Pt(L-H)](+), the cyclometalated motif is conserved; rather, according to DFT calculations, formation of [Pt(L-H)(H(2))](+) as the ionic product accounts for C(2)H(4) liberation. In the latter process, [Pt(L-H)(H(2))(C(2)H(4))](+) (that carries H(2) trans to the nitrogen atom of the heterocyclic ligand) serves, according to DFT calculation, as a precursor from which, due to the electronic peculiarities of the cyclometalated ligand, C(2)H(4) rather than H(2) is ejected. For both product-ion types, [Pt(H)(bipy)](+) and [Pt(L-H)(H(2))](+) (L=phpy, bq), H(2) loss to close a catalytic dehydrogenation cycle is feasible. In the reactions of [Pt(bipy-H)](+) with the higher alkanes C(n)H(2n+2) (n=3, 4), H(2) elimination dominates over alkene formation; most probably, this observation is a consequence of the generation of allyl complexes, such as [Pt(C(3)H(5))(bipy)](+). In the reactions of [Pt(L-H)](+) (L=phpy, bq) with propane and n-butane, the losses of the alkenes and dihydrogen are of comparable intensities. While in the reactions of "rollover"-cyclometalated [Pt(bipy-H)](+) with C(n)H(2n+2) (n=2-4) less than 15 % of the generated product ions are formed by C-C bond-cleavage processes, this value is about 60 % for the reaction with neo-pentane. The result that C-C bond cleavage gains in importance for this substrate is a consequence of the fact that 1,2-elimination of two hydrogen atoms is no option; this observation may suggest that in the reactions with the smaller alkanes, 1,1- and 1,3-elimination pathways are only of minor importance.

Abstract
When using tetrachloromethane as the reagent gas in gas chromatography-ion trap mass spectrometry equipped with hybrid ionization source, the cation CCl(3)(+) was generated in high abundance and further gas-phase experiments showed that such an electron-deficient reagent ion CCl(3)(+) could undergo interesting ion-molecule reactions with various volatile organic compounds, which not only present some informative gas-phase reactions, but also facilitate qualitative analysis of diverse volatile compounds by providing unique mass spectral data that are characteristic of particular chemical structures. The ion-molecule reactions of the reagent ion CCl(3)(+) with different types of compounds were studied, and results showed that such reactions could give rise to structurally diagnostic ions, such as [M+CCl(3) - HCl](+) for aromatic hydrocarbons, [M - OH](+) for saturated cyclic ether, ketone, and alcoholic compounds, [M - H](+) ion for monoterpenes, M(·+) for sesquiterpenes, [M - CH(3)CO](+) for esters, as well as the further fragment ions. The mechanisms of ion-molecule reactions of aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic ketones and alcoholic compounds with the reagent ion CCl(3)(+) were investigated and proposed according to the information provided by MS/MS experiments and theoretical calculations. Then, this method was applied to study volatile organic compounds in Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum and 20 compounds, including monoterpenes and their oxygen-containing derivatives, aromatic hydrocarbon and sesquiterpenes were identified using such ion-molecule reactions. This study offers a perspective and an alternative tool for the analysis and identification of various volatile compounds.

Abstract
Four seemingly simple transformations related to the chemistry of methane will be addressed from mechanistic and conceptual points of view: 1) metal-mediated dehydrogenation to form metal carbene complexes, 2) the hydrogen-atom abstraction step in the oxidative dimerization of methane, 3) the mechanisms of the CH(4)→CH(3)OH conversion, and 4) the initial bond scission (C-H vs. O-H) as well as the rate-limiting step in the selective CH(3)OH→CH(2)O oxidation. State-of-the-art gas-phase experiments, in conjunction with electronic-structure calculations, permit identification of the elementary reactions at a molecular level and thus allow us to unravel detailed mechanistic aspects. Where appropriate, these results are compared with findings from related studies in solution or on surfaces.
