Abstract
Under typical copper-catalyzed hydroboration conditions, β-(trifluoromethyl)styrenes demonstrate unusal reactivities by forming difluoromethylated alkenes via a net protodefluorination process. This is also distinct from trifluoromethyl alkenes with alkyl substituents where defluoroborylation products predominate.

Abstract
A copper-catalysed regio- and diastereoselective borylamination of α,β-unsaturated esters with B2pin2 and hydroxylamines has been developed to deliver acyclic β-boryl-α-amino acid derivatives with high anti-diastereoselectivity (up to >99 : 1), which is difficult to obtain by the established methods. A chiral phosphoramidite ligand also successfully induces the enantioselectivity, giving the optically active β-borylated α-amino acids. The products can be stereospecifically transformed into β-functionalised α-amino acids, which are of potent interest in medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Synthesis of versatile β tert-boryl amides is accomplished by conjunctive cross-coupling of α-substituted alkenyl boron "ate" complexes and carbamoyl chloride electrophiles. This reaction can be accomplished in an enantioselective fashion using a palladium catalyst in combination with MandyPhos. The addition of water results in enhanced chemoselectivity for the conjunctive coupling product relative to the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling product. Transformations of the reaction products were examined as well as application to the synthesis of (+)-adalinine.

Abstract
Organoboron compounds are highly important and versatile synthetic intermediates for the preparation of a wide range of organic molecules. Organoboron compounds have drawn significant attention among organic chemists due to their Lewis acidic property, non-toxicity, and commercial availability. Over the last several decades, there has been a substantial development of new organoboron compounds, useful in organic synthesis. Among all other organoboron compounds, β-boryl carbonyl compounds are the important ones. The β-boryl compounds have appeared as promising intermediates for various synthetic transformations. The 1,4-conjugate addition of diboron reagents to carbon-carbon double bond in the presence of different transition-metal catalysts has been extensively reported by various research groups across the globe. This mini-review outlines the numerous racemic as well as asymmetric β-borylation methods developed to date.

Abstract
Chiral tertiary boronic esters are important precursors to bioactive compounds and versatile synthetic intermediates to molecules containing quaternary stereocenters. The development of conjugate boryl addition to α,β-unsaturated amide has been hampered by the intrinsic low electrophilicity of the amide group. Here we show the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of enantioenriched tertiary boronic esters through hydroboration of β,β-disubstituted α,β-unsaturated amides. The Rh-catalyzed hydroboration occurs with previously unattainable selectivity to provide tertiary boronic esters in high enantioselectivity. This strategy opens a door for the hydroboration of inert Michael acceptors with high stereocontrol and may provide future applications in the synthesis of biologically active molecules.

Abstract
Catalytic asymmetric remote conjugate borylation is challenging as the control of regioselectivity is not trivial, the electrophilicity of remote sites is extenuated, and the remote asymmetric induction away from the carbonyl group is difficult. Herein, catalytic asymmetric conjugate 1,6-, 1,8- and 1,10-borylation was developed with excellent regioselectivity, which delivered α-chiral boronates in moderate to high yields with high enantioselectivity. The produced chiral boronate smoothly underwent oxidation, cross-coupling, and one-carbon homologation to give synthetically versatile chiral compounds in moderate yields with excellent stereoretention. Furthermore, a stereomechanistic analysis was conducted using DFT calculations, which provides insights into the origins of the regioselectivity. Finally, the present 1,6-borylation was successfully applied in an efficient one-pot asymmetric synthesis of (-)-7,8-dihydrokavain.

Abstract
The synthesis of γ-chiral borylalkanes through copper-catalyzed enantioselective SN2'-reduction of γ,γ-disubstituted allylic substrates and subsequent hydroboration was reported. A copper-DTBM-Segphos catalyst produced a range of γ-chiral alkylboronates from easily accessible allylic acetate or benzoate with high enantioselectivities up to 99% ee. Furthermore, selective organic transformations of the resulting γ-chiral alkylboronates generated the corresponding γ-chiral alcohol, arene and amine compounds.

Abstract
Cu(i)-Catalyzed diastereoselective carboboration of α-alkyl-substituted α,β-unsaturated carboxylic esters to produce β-boryl-α-quaternary carbon esters was developed. The carbon skeletons of dialkyl sulfates, primary allyl halides, and benzyl bromides were transferred to the α-position of the substrates to provide products in moderate to good yields with a diastereoselectivity of >95% in most cases. Substrates bearing a β-(hetero)aryl substituent gave higher diastereoselectivities than those bearing a linear β-alkyl substituent. The crystal structure of the potassium trifluoroborate derivative shows that the reactions probably go through a copper(i) enolate intermediate and the diastereoselectivity arises from the electrophilic attack of electrophiles to the less hindered side of the enolates.

Abstract
Phosphonate-directed catalytic asymmetric hydroboration (CAHB) of β-aryl/heteroaryl methylidenes and trisubstituted alkenes by pinacolborane enables facile access to functionalized, chiral tertiary benzylic boronic esters. Hydroboration is catalyzed by a chiral rhodium catalyst prepared in situ from a Rh(I)-precursor in combination with a simple TADDOL-derived chiral cyclic monophosphite in a 1:1 ratio. The regio- and stereochemistry arises from the combined effects of the relative disposition of the directing group to the alkene, the alkene substitution pattern, and the necessity of an aryl substituent attached to the alkene. A range of aryl and heteroaryl substituents can be accommodated, and for several chiral substrates, the reactions are efficiently catalyst-controlled enabling the choice of diastereomeric products as desired. Stereospecific transformations of the chiral boronic ester afford chiral phosphonates bearing a quaternary carbon stereocenter. The synthetic utility of the products is further demonstrated by α-oxidation of the phosphonate leading to hydroxy- and oxo-phosphonates; the latter readily undergo elimination/substitution reactions to unmask the phosphonate functionality with the formation of aldehydes, alcohols, esters, amides, acids and ketones.

Abstract
The metal-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition (ACA) reaction has emerged as a general and powerful approach for the construction of optically active compounds and is among the most significant and useful reactions in synthetic organic chemistry. In recent years, great progress has been made in this area with the use of various chiral metal complexes based on different chiral ligands. This review provides comprehensive and critical information on the enantioselective 1,4-conjugate addition of nonorganometallic (soft) nucleophiles and their importance in synthetic applications. The literature is covered from the last 10 years, and a number of examples from before 2007 are included as background information. The review is divided into multiple parts according to the type of nucleophile involved in the reaction (such as C-, B-, O-, N-, S-, P-, and Si-centered nucleophiles) and metal catalyst systems used.

Abstract
A practical and enantioselective palladium-catalyzed diboration of 1,1-disubstituted allenes is developed by employing a P-chiral monophosphorus ligand, BI-DIME. A series of diboronic esters containing a chiral tertiary boronic ester moiety are formed in excellent yields and ee's with the palladium loading as low as 0.2 mol%. DFT calculations revealed a concerted mechanism of oxidative addition of bis(pinacolato)diboron and allene insertion, as well as a critical dispersion effect on the origins of the enantioselectivity. The method is successfully applied to the concise and enantioselective synthesis of brassinazole.

Abstract
Chiral boronic esters are useful intermediates in asymmetric synthesis. We have previously shown that carbonyl-directed catalytic asymmetric hydroboration (CAHB) is an efficient approach to the synthesis of functionalized primary and secondary chiral boronic esters. We now report that the oxime-directed CAHB of alkyl-substituted methylidene and trisubstituted alkene substrates by pinacolborane (pinBH) affords oxime-containing chiral tertiary boronic esters with yields up to 87% and enantiomeric ratios up to 96:4 e.r. The utility of the method is demonstrated by the formation of chiral diols and O-substituted hydroxylamines, the generation of quaternary carbon stereocenters through carbon-carbon coupling reactions, and the preparation of chiral 3,4,4-trisubstituted isoxazolines.

Abstract
Broadly applicable enantioselective C-B and C-Si bond-forming processes catalyzed by an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) were recently introduced; these boryl and silyl conjugate addition reactions (BCA and SCA, respectively), which proceed without the need for a transition-metal complex, represent reaction pathways that are distinct from those facilitated by transition-metal-containing species (e.g., Cu, Ni, Pt, Pd, or Rh based). The Lewis-base-catalyzed (NHC) transformations are valuable to chemical synthesis, as they can generate high enantioselectivities and possess unique chemoselectivity profiles. Here, the results of investigations that elucidate the principal features of the NHC-catalyzed BCA and SCA processes are detailed. Spectroscopic evidence is provided illustrating why the presence of excess base and MeOH or H2O is required for efficient and enantioselective boryl and silyl addition reactions. It is demonstrated that the proton sources influence the efficiency and/or enantioselectivity of NHC-catalyzed enantioselective transformations in several ways. The positive, and at times adverse, impact of water (biphasic conditions) on catalytic enantioselective silyl addition reactions is analyzed. It is shown that a proton source can facilitate nonenantioselective background reactions and NHC decomposition, requiring the catalyst to surpass such complications. Stereochemical models are presented that account for the identity of the observed major enantiomers, providing a rationale for the differences in selectivity profiles of BCA and SCA processes.
