Bu4NI-Catalyzed CO Bond Formation by Using a Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling (CDC) Reaction

α-Acyloxylation of Ketones/Cyclic Ethers Mediated by Hypervalent Iodine(III) Reagents as Oxidants and Nucleophilic Sources

This study describes a catalyst-free α-acyloxylation of ketones and a KBr-mediated α-acyloxylation of cyclic ethers. These conversions are effectively mediated by hypervalent iodine(III) reagents serving dual roles as the oxidant and nucleophilic source. Consequently, esters are produced directly in moderate to excellent yields. The proposed method features good functional group compatibility, a broad substrate scope, and high synthetic efficiency and is remarkably environmentally friendly.

Ultrasound-promoted synthesis of a copper-iron-based catalyst for the microwave-assisted acyloxylation of 1,4-dioxane and cyclohexene

A copper-iron-based catalyst has been prepared by a low-temperature co-precipitation and sonication method. The use of high-energy ultrasound reduces the time required for the preparation process from one workweek to one day with respect to the catalysts obtained by conventional coprecipitation and thermal treatment methods. The resulting material has been characterized at compositional, textural, structural, and chemical levels by ICP-AES, BET, SEM-EDS, XRD, TEM, and FTIR among other techniques. The material shows catalytic activity in the acyloxylation reaction of 1,4-dioxane and cyclohexene under microwave irradiation. In parallel with the optimized catalyst synthesis, the use of microwaves allowed for a substantial improvement in the outcome of the reaction in terms of cleanliness, yield, and time.

A copper iodide-catalyzed coupling reaction of benzofuran-3(2H)-ones with amines: an approach to α-ketoamides

A CuI-catalyzed coupling reaction of benzofuran-3(2H)-ones with amines has been well established for the direct synthesis of α-ketoamides. This process involves C-O bond cleavage and C[double bond, length as m-dash]O/C-N bond formation. Mechanism studies indicated that this α-ketoamide formation reaction may involve a free radical process.

Cross-Dehydrogenative Coupling Reaction and Arylation of Quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones under Iodide/Peroxide Conditions

A simple method has been developed for the synthesis of ­3-(2-oxo-2-phenylethylidene)-3,4-dihydroquinoxalin-2(1H)-one and ­3-aryl-quinoxalin-2(1H)-one derivatives through C–H activation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones by peroxides and iodide. In this protocol, the per­oxide (TBPB) serves as both the radical initiator and aryl source, realizing arylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one in a one-step reaction. The methodology has the advantages of being a metal-free strategy and having broad functional group tolerance.

A three-component iodine-catalyzed oxidative coupling reaction: a heterodifunctionalization of 3-methylindoles

A metal-free method for the synthesis of heterodifunctional indole derivatives is developed through TBHP/KI-mediated oxidative coupling. The reaction constructs C-O and C-C bonds in succession with the help of tert-butyl peroxy radicals generated by the TBHP/KI catalytic system, enabling the direct realization of the heterodifunctionalization of indole in one pot. The product of this reaction is a novel heterodifunctional compound. This work might provide a new effective method for the synthesis of polycyclic indole compounds.

Microwave-Enhanced Coupling of Carboxylic Acids with Liquid Ketones and Cyclic Ethers Using Tetrabutylammonium Iodide/t-Butyl Hydroperoxide

The oxidative coupling of carboxylic acids with liquid ketones and cyclic ethers has been accomplished in minutes using t-butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of tetrabutylammonium iodide under microwave irradiation in the absence of a solvent. In addition to drastically shortening the reaction times, the use of microwaves resulted, in general, in yields equal to or higher than those obtained by conventional heating.

An Efficient Metal-Free Oxidative Esterification and Amination of Benzyl C-H Bond

An esterification and amination of benzylic C-H bonds was developed by using 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) under metal- and iodide-free conditions. Both carboxylic acids and amines could be used as ideal coupling partners for the oxidative coupling reactions with various diarylmethanes. A close to equal amount of coupling reagents was enough to afford the product in good to high yields.

Alkylarylation of N-allylbenzamides and N-allylanilines with simple ethers for the direct construction of ether substituted dihydroisoquinolinones and indolines

A radical-initiated cascade addition and cyclization of N-allylbenzamides with simple ethers to construct ether-substituted dihydroisoquinolinones was performed in the presence of CuI. The cleavage of the sp³ C-H bond in ether and the sp² C-H bond in phenyl was involved in this reaction. Moreover, the arylalkylation of N-allylanilines was also realized under similar reaction conditions, providing ether-functionalized indolines in good to moderate yields.

Base-promoted domino radical cyclization of 1,6-enynes

A good regioselective, high atom-economical and transition-metal-free method for the synthesis of α-functionalized ether derivatives via the domino radical cyclization of 1,6-enynes is described. A series of α-functionalized ether derivatives could be easily obtained in good yields with wide functional group tolerance by using less toxic and inexpensive Cs₂CO₃ as the base. The control experiment results show that the reaction involves a radical process. This strategy provides a regioselective way toward the formation of dual C-C bonds in one step.

Catalytic enantioselective oxidative coupling of saturated ethers with carboxylic acid derivatives

Catalytic enantioselective C–C bond forming process through cross-dehydrogenative coupling represents a promising synthetic strategy, but it remains a long-standing challenge in chemistry. Here, we report a formal catalytic enantioselective cross-dehydrogenative coupling of saturated ethers with diverse carboxylic acid derivatives involving an initial oxidative acetal formation, followed by nickel(II)-catalyzed asymmetric alkylation. The one-pot, general, and modular method exhibits wide compatibility of a broad range of saturated ethers not only including prevalent tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran, but also including medium- and large-sized cyclic moieties and acyclic ones with excellent enantioselectivity and functional group tolerance. The application in the rapid preparation of biologically active molecules that are difficult to access with existing methods is also demonstrated.

Cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) is a powerful method for C-C bond formation however the enantioselective variant is underdeveloped. Here, the authors show a formal enantioselective CDC method involving unactivated ethers and carboxylic acid derivatives allowing for the rapid preparation of biologically active molecules.
