Abstract
A highly regio- and enantioselective allylic sulfonylation has been developed with rhodium and bisoxazolinephosphine (NPN*) ligands from racemic branched allylic carbonates and readily available sulfonyl hydrazides under neutral conditions. Branch-selective allylic sulfones with a >20:1 branch:linear ratio and >99% ee could be synthesized in ≤96% yield. Both Z and E linear allylic carbonates could also be converted into the same chiral branched allylic sulfones with high regio- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A convenient and practical hydrosulfonylation and disulfonylation of substituted maleimides was realized using sulfonyl hydrazides as the sulfur reagent and tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant. The advantages of the reactions include mild and transition-metal-free reaction conditions, good functional group tolerance, and readily available starting materials. The radical species-induced pathway is also demonstrated by mechanistic studies.

Abstract
Daicel Chiralpak IA, IB, and IC, which are the polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phase (CSP) columns for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), were applied in the separation of the non-enantiomeric isomeric mixtures obtained by the various allylation reactions and were highly effective in separating the regio- and (E)/(Z)-isomers in the allylation products. Due to the close structural similarity of the isomeric allylic compounds in the reaction mixtures, separations of the isomers are laborious and could not be accomplished by the conventional methods such as silica gel column chromatography, silica gel HPLC, preparative GPC, distillation, and so forth. This study has shown potential advantages of using the polysaccharide-based CSP columns in the separation of not only enantiomeric but also non-enantiomeric isomeric mixtures.

Abstract
We describe here the first general asymmetric synthesis of sterically encumbered α,α-disubstituted allylic sulfones via Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution. The design and application of a new and highly efficient phosphoramidite ligand (L10) proved to be crucial, and a wide variety of challenging allylic sulfones featuring quaternary stereocenters could be obtained in good yields and with good to excellent levels of regio- and enantioselectivities under attractive process conditions. The developed methodology employs easily accessible chemical feedstock including racemic allylic precursors and sodium sulfinates. The utility of the method is further demonstrated by the synthesis of the sesquiterpene (-)-Agelasidine A.

Abstract
The nucleophilic iron complex Bu4 N[Fe(CO)3 (NO)] (TBA[Fe]) is an active catalyst in C-H-amination but also in proton-transfer catalysis. Herein, we describe the successful use of this complex as a proton-transfer catalyst in the cyclocondensation reaction between azides and ketones to the corresponding 1,2,3-triazoles. Cross-experiments indicate that the proton-transfer catalysis is significantly faster than the nitrene-transfer catalysis, which would lead to the C-H amination product. An example of a successful sequential Dimroth triazole-indoline synthesis to the corresponding triazole-substituted indolines is presented.

Abstract
Using a simple copper(i) catalyst has allowed a high yielding sulfonylative-Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction to be developed. The process provides a single step route to diaryl sulfones from the direct combination of aryl boronic acids, sulfur dioxide and aryl iodides, and represents the first sulfonylative variant of a classic cross-coupling reaction. Sulfur dioxide is delivered from the surrogate reagent, DABSO. Variation of the reaction conditions allowed interruption of the sulfonylative-Suzuki coupling, resulting in the formation of a presumed Cu-sulfinate intermediate. These sulfinates could be trapped as their sodium salts and treated with electrophiles to allow access to arylalkyl sulfones, β-hydroxyl sulfones, sulfonamides and sulfonyl fluorides.

Abstract
The base metal complex Bu4N[Fe(CO)3(NO)] (TBA[Fe]) catalyzes the rearrangement of vinyl and arylcyclopropanes both under thermal or photochemical conditions to give the corresponding vinyl or aryldihydrofurans in good to excellent yields. Under photochemical conditions the reaction is performed at room temperature. Spectroscopic investigations show that the metal carbonyl catalyst is not decarbonylated. The best performance was observed at a wavelength of 415 nm. icMRCI+Q analysis of the excited singlet and triplet states of the [Fe(CO)3(NO)] anion was performed and used to calculate the vertical excitation energies which are in good agreement with the experimental data. CASSCF analysis indicates that the Fe center in all excited states of the ferrate becomes more electrophilic while adopting a distorted tetrahedral configuration. Both aspects have a positive synergistic effect on the formation of the initial π-complex with the incoming organic substrate.

Abstract
A metal-free tandem procedure by using a sulfonylation reaction of aryl allylic alcohols followed by an iodobenzenediacetate (PIDA)-promoted oxidative functionalization has been established. Allylic sulfones, γ-ketosulfones, and triflyl allylic alcohols have been constructed in a single operation. The methodology incorporates the sulfonyl (both aryl and triflyl) functionality with a simple work-up procedure.

Abstract
In this perspective, the HERFD-XANES (high energy resolution fluorescence detected X-ray absorption near edge structure) and Kβ2,5- or V2C-XES (valence-to-core X-ray emission spectroscopy) methods are discussed as new and powerful tools for chemical research with hard X-rays. This includes a brief survey of the underlying physical processes and the introduction of experimental issues. The potential of both methods to overcome limitations of conventional XAS (X-ray absorption spectroscopy) and to push the limits for obtaining new information about the electronic and geometric structures of metal centers, in the solid state structure or heterogeneous catalysts, but also in metal complexes and homogeneous catalysts, is discussed by presenting a survey of representative references and recent own studies, rounded off by a conclusion and outlook.

Abstract
A series of defined iron-hydrogen complexes was prepared in a straightforward one-pot approach. The structure and electronic properties of such complexes were investigated by means of quantum-chemical analysis. These new complexes were then applied in the dehydrogenative silylation of methanol. The complex (dppp)(CO)(NO)FeH showed a remarkable activity with a TOF of more than 600 000 h(-1) of pure hydrogen gas within seconds.

Abstract
A quantum chemical investigation of the Bu4N[Fe(CO)3(NO)]-catalyzed Cloke-Wilson rearrangement of vinyl cyclopropanes is reported. It was found that allylic C-C bond activation can proceed through a SN2' or SN2-type mechanism. The application of the recently reported intrinsic bond orbital (IBO) method for all structures indicated that one Fe-N π bond is directly involved. Further analysis showed that during the reaction oxidation occurs at the NO ligand exclusively.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbene catalyzed Michael additions have been revisited with 1,3-dialkyl- or 1,3-diarylimidazol(in)ium-2-carboxylates, that is, NHC·CO2 adducts, as the source of the free NHC catalysts in solution. Using these precatalysts, a number of efficient carba-, sulfa-, and phospha-Michael additions were achieved very conveniently, without the need for an external strong base to generate the NHC by deprotonation of an azolium salt. To further expand the scope of the procedure, some NHC-catalyzed sulfa-Michael/aldol organocascades were also investigated.
