An organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterial composed of a Dowson-type (NH 4) 6P 2Mo 18O 62 heteropolyanion and a metal-organic framework: synthesis, characterization, and application as an effective adsorbent for the removal of organic dyes. Abstract
In this work, an inorganic-organic hybrid nanomaterial, P2Mo18/MIL-101(Cr), based on Wells-Dawson-type (NH4)6P2Mo18O62 polyoxometalate (abbreviated as P2Mo18) and the MIL-101(Cr) metal-organic framework was fabricated by the reaction of (NH4)6P2Mo18O62, Cr(NO3)3·9H2O and terephthalic acid under hydrothermal conditions. The as-prepared recyclable nanohybrid was fully characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area studies. All the analyses confirmed the successful insertion of P2Mo18O62 6- heteropolyanion within the cavities of MIL-101(Cr). The encapsulated MIL-101(Cr) showed a considerable decrease in both pore volume and surface area compared with MIL-101(Cr) due to incorporation of the very large Dowson-type polyoxometalate into the three-dimensional porous MIL-101(Cr). The nanohybrid had a specific surface area of 800.42 m2 g-1. The adsorption efficiency of this nanohybrid for removal of methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB), and methyl orange (MO) from aqueous solutions was evaluated. Surprisingly, the composite not only presented a high adsorption capacity of 312.5 mg g-1 for MB, but also has the ability to rapidly remove 100% MB from a dye solution of 50 mg L-1 within 3 min. These results confirmed that this adsorbent is applicable in a wide pH range of 2-10. The nanohybrid showed rapid and selective adsorption for cationic MB and RhB dyes from MB/MO, MB/RhB, MO/RhB and MB/MO/RhB mixed dye solutions. The equilibrium adsorption data were better fitted by the Langmuir isotherm. Kinetics data indicate that the adsorption of the dye follows a pseudo-second order kinetics model. Also, this material could be effortlessly separated and recycled without any structural modification. Accordingly, it is an efficient adsorbent for removing cationic dyes.

Abstract
Cation-uptake and exchange has been an important topic in both basic and applied chemistry relevant to life and materials science. For example, living cells contain appreciable amounts of Na+ and K+, and their concentrations are regulated by the sodium-potassium pump. Solid-state cation-exchangers such as clays and zeolites both natural and synthetic have been used widely in water softening and purification, separation of metal ions and biomolecules, etc. Polyoxometalates (POMs) are robust, discrete, and structurally well-defined metal-oxide cluster anions, and have stimulated research in broad fields of sciences. In this perspective, cation-uptake and exchange in POM and POM-based compounds are categorized and reviewed in three groups: (i) POMs as inorganic crown ethers and cryptands, (ii) POM-based ionic solids as cation-exchangers, and (iii) reduction-induced cation-uptake in POM-based ionic solids, which is based on a feature of POMs that they are redox-active and multi-electron transfer occurs reversibly in multiple steps. This method can be utilized to synthesize mixed-valence metal clusters in metal ion-exchanged POM-based ionic solids.

Abstract
A mono-potassium cation-encapsulated Preyssler-type phosphotungstate, [P5W30O110K]14- (1), was prepared as a potassium salt, K14[P5W30O110K] (1a), by heating mono-bismuth- or mono-calcium-encapsulated Preyssler-type phosphotungstates (K12[P5W30O110Bi(H2O)] or K13[P5W30O110Ca(H2O)]) in acetate buffer. Characterization of the potassium salt 1a by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis, 31P and 183W nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis revealed that one potassium cation is encapsulated in the central cavity of the Preyssler-type phosphotungstate molecule with a formal D 5h symmetry. Density functional theory calculations have confirmed that the potassium cation prefers the central position of the cavity over a side position, in which no water molecules are coordinated to the encapsulated potassium cation. 31P NMR and cyclic voltammetry analyses revealed the rapid protonation-deprotonation of the oxygens in the cavity compared to that of other Preyssler-type compounds. Heating of 1a in the solid state afforded a di-K+-encapsulated compound, K13[P5W30O110K2] (2a), indicating that a potassium counter-cation is introduced in one of the side cavities, concomitantly displacing the internal potassium ion from the center to a second side cavity, thus providing a new method to encapsulate an additional cation in Preyssler compounds.

Abstract
A polyoxometalate (POM)-based {Mn(IV)2Mn(III)6Mn(II)4} complex with single-molecule magnet (SMM) behaviour was prepared, exhibiting the largest known Mn nuclearity and the most Mn valence states in the POM-based SMM family.
