Abstract
An Ir(III)-catalyzed annulation of aryl amides with 1,6-diynes via ortho- as well as meta-dual C-H bond activation reaction is reported. The scope of the annulation reaction was examined with various substituted aryl amides, as well as 1,6-diynes. In this protocol, 1,6-diynes exhibit diverse reactivity compared with internal alkynes. It is important to note that the three C-C bond formation takes place consecutively via ortho followed by meta-dual C-H bond annulation by using a weak chelating group in one pot. A possible catalytic reaction mechanism was proposed to account for the annulation reaction.

Abstract
A Rauhut-Currier reaction cascade is achieved in the presence of carbon nucleophiles under mild conditions. This original atom-economical transformation enables an efficient one-pot synthesis of densely substituted carbocycles from readily accessible substrates. The key promoter role of the cesium cation in the cascade process was demonstrated.

Abstract
A Pd(II)-catalyzed straightforward oxidative naphthylation of unmasked 2-pyridone derivatives is described using a twofold internal alkyne as a coupling partner. The reaction proceeds through N-H/C-H activation to provide polyarylated N-naphthyl 2-pyridones. An unusual oxidative annulation at the arene C-H bond of the diarylalkyne leads to the formation of polyarylated N-naphthyl 2-pyridones, where the 2-pyridone-attached phenyl ring of the naphthyl ring is polyaryl-substituted. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations suggest a plausible mechanism based on N-H/C-H activation. The N-naphthyl 2-pyridone derivatives were studied to explore encouraging photophysical properties.

Abstract
A convenient and general protocol for the palladium-catalysed oxidation of internal allylamine derivatives to β-amino ketones is reported. The transformation occurs at room temperature and shows a wide substrate scope as well as high functional group and N-protecting group tolerance. We also describe potential applications of the method, e.g., the synthesis of bioactive molecules or simple transformations of selected β-amino ketones into other interesting building blocks.

Abstract
A novel Pd-catalyzed chemo- and regiocontrolled tandem cyclization/cross-coupling reaction of 3-alkynyl chromone with aryl iodide was developed for the synthesis of 4H-furo[3,2-c]chromenes and xanthones. The difunctionalization of alkynes through O-attack/5-exo-dig and C-attack/6-endo-dig cyclization was reported by this rare approach, which was selectively controlled by the addition of KF or a bidentate phosphine ligand. A one-pot tandem process was demonstrated directly from γ-alkynyl-1,3-diketone for this method.

Abstract
This Minireview presents recent important homogenous aerobic oxidative reactions which are assisted by electron transfer mediators (ETMs). Compared with direct oxidation by molecular oxygen (O2 ), the use of a coupled catalyst system with ETMs leads to a lower overall energy barrier via stepwise electron transfer. This cooperative catalytic process significantly facilitates the transport of electrons from the reduced form of the substrate-selective redox catalyst (SSRCred ) to O2 , thereby increasing the efficiency of the aerobic oxidation. In this Minireview, we have summarized the advances accomplished in recent years in transition-metal-catalyzed as well as metal-free aerobic oxidations of organic molecules in the presence of ETMs. In addition, the recent progress of photochemical and electrochemical oxidative functionalization using ETMs and O2 as the terminal oxidant is also highlighted. Furthermore, the mechanisms of these transformations are showcased.

Abstract
The use of molecular oxygen in palladium-catalyzed oxidation reactions is highly widespread in organic chemistry. However, the direct reoxidation of palladium by O2 is often kinetically unfavored, thus leading the deactivation of the palladium catalyst during the catalytic cycle. In the present work, we report a highly selective palladium-catalyzed carbocyclization of bisallenes to seven-membered heterocycles under atmospheric pressure of O2 . The use of a homogenous hybrid catalyst (Co(salophen)-HQ, HQ=hydroquinone) significantly promotes efficient electron transfer between the palladium catalyst and O2 through a low-energy pathway. This aerobic oxidative transformation shows broad substrate scope and functional group compatibility and allowed the preparation of O-containing seven-membered rings in good yields in most cases.

Abstract
Boomerang-shaped bipyrroles containing donor-acceptor units were obtained through a tandem palladium-mediated reaction consisting of a cyclization step, involving double C-H bond activation, and a double α-oxygenation. The latter reaction can be partly suppressed for the least reactive systems, providing access to α-unsubstituted boomerangs for the first time. These "α-free" systems are highly efficient fluorophores, with emission quantum yields exceeding 80% in toluene. Preliminary measurements show that helicene-like boomerangs may be usable as circularly polarized luminescent materials.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed oxidative cascade carbonylative carbocyclization of enallenols was developed. Under mild reaction conditions, a range of cis-fused [5,5] bicyclic γ-lactones and γ-lactams with a 1,3-diene motif were obtained in good yields with high diastereoselectivity. The obtained lactone/lactam products are viable substrates for a stereoselective Diels-Alder reaction with N-phenylmaleimide, providing polycyclic compounds with increased molecular complexity.

Abstract
A highly selective and efficient oxidative carbocyclization/borylation of enallenols catalyzed by palladium immobilized on amino-functionalized siliceous mesocellular foam (Pd-AmP-MCF) was developed for diastereoselective cyclobutenol synthesis. The heterogeneous palladium catalyst can be recovered and recycled without any observed loss of activity or selectivity. The high diastereoselectivity of the reaction is proposed to originate from a directing effect of the enallenol hydroxyl group. Optically pure cyclobutenol synthesis was achieved by the heterogeneous strategy by using chiral enallenol obtained from kinetic resolution.

Abstract
Oxidation reactions play a central role in organic synthesis, and it is highly desirable that these reactions are mild and occur under catalytic conditions. In Nature, oxidation reactions occur under mild conditions via cascade processes, and furthermore, they often occur in an enantioselective manner with many of them involving molecular oxygen or hydrogen peroxide as the terminal oxidant. Inspired by the reactions in Nature, we have developed a number of Pd(II)-catalyzed cascade reactions under mild oxidative conditions. These reactions have an intrinsic advantage of step economy and rely on selectivity control in each step. In this Account, we will discuss the control of chemo-, regio-, and diastereoselectivity in Pd(II)-catalyzed dehydrogenative cascade coupling reactions. The enantioselective version of this methodology has also been addressed, and new chiral centers have been introduced using a catalytic amount of a chiral phosphoric acid (CPA). Research on this topic has provided access to important compounds attractive for synthetic and pharmaceutical chemists. These compounds include carbocyclic, heterocyclic, and polycyclic systems, as well as polyunsaturated open-chain structures. Reactions leading to these compounds are initiated by coordination of an allene and an unsaturated π-bond moiety, such as olefin, alkyne, or another allene, to the Pd(II) center, followed by allene attack involving a C(sp3)-H cleavage under mild reaction conditions. Recent progress within our research group has shown that weakly coordinating groups (e.g., hydroxyl, alkoxide, or ketone) could also initiate the allene attack on Pd(II), which is essential for the oxidative carbocyclization. Furthermore, a highly selective palladium-catalyzed allenic C(sp3)-H bond oxidation of allenes in the absence of an assisting group was developed, which provides a novel and straightforward synthesis of [3]dendralene derivatives. For the oxidative systems, benzoquinone (BQ) and its derivatives are commonly used as oxidants or catalytic co-oxidants (electron transfer mediators, ETMs) together with molecular oxygen. A variety of transformations including carbocyclization, acetoxylation, arylation, carbonylation, borylation, β-hydride elimination, alkynylation, alkoxylation, and olefination have been demonstrated to be compatible with this Pd(II)-based catalytic oxidative system. Recently, several challenging synthetic targets, such as cyclobutenes, seven-membered ring carbocycles, spirocyclic derivatives, functional cyclohexenes, and chiral cyclopentenone derivatives were obtained with high selectivity using these methods. The mechanisms of the reactions were mainly studied by kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) or DFT computations, which showed that in most cases the C(sp3)-H cleavage is the rate-determining step (RDS) or partially RDS. This Account will describe our efforts toward the development of highly selective and atom-economic palladium(II)-catalyzed oxidative transformation of allenes (including enallenes, dienallenes, bisallenes, allenynes, simple allenes, and allenols) with a focus on overcoming the selectivity problem during the reactions.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective palladium-catalyzed oxidative carbocyclization-borylation of enallenes assisted by a weakly coordinating hydroxyl group was developed. The reaction afforded functionalized cyclohexenol derivatives, in which the 1,3-relative stereochemistry is controlled (d.r. > 50:1). Other weakly coordinating oxygen-containing groups (ketone, alkoxide, acetate) also assisted the carbocyclization toward cyclohexenes. The reaction proceeds via a ligand exchange on Pd of the weakly coordinating group with a distant olefin group. The high diastereoselectivity of the hydroxyl-directed reaction could be rationalized by a face-selective coordination of the distant olefin. It was demonstrated that the primary coordination of the close-by oxygen-containing functionality was necessary for the reaction to occur and removal of this functionality shut down the reaction.

Abstract
A highly selective palladium-catalyzed allenic C-H bond oxidation was developed, and it provides a novel and straightforward synthesis of [3]dendralene derivatives. A variety of [3]dendralenes with diverse substitution patterns are accessible with good efficiency and high stereoselectivity. The reaction tolerates a broad substrate scope containing various functional groups on the allene moiety, including ketone, aldehyde, ester, and phenyl groups. Also, a wide range of olefins with both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing aryls, acrylate, sulfone, and phosphonate groups are tolerated.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed aerobic oxidation reactions have been the focus of industrial application and extensive research efforts for nearly 60 years. A significant transition occurred in this field approximately 20 years ago, with the introduction of catalysts supported by ancillary ligands. The ligands play crucial roles in the reactions, including promotion of direct oxidation of palladium(0) by O2, bypassing the typical requirement for Cu salts or related redox cocatalysts to facilitate oxidation of the reduced Pd catalyst; facilitation of key bond-breaking and bond-forming steps during substrate oxidation; and modulation of chemo-, regio-, or stereoselectivity of a reaction. The use of ligands has contributed to significant expansion of the scope of accessible aerobic oxidation reactions. Increased understanding of the role of ancillary ligands should promote the development of new synthetic transformations, enable improved control over the reaction selectivity, and improve catalyst activity and stability. This review surveys the different ligands that have been used to support palladium-catalyzed aerobic oxidation reactions and, where possible, describes mechanistic insights into the role played by the ancillary ligand.

Abstract
A highly selective olefin-assisted palladium-catalyzed oxidative carbocyclization via remote olefin insertion to afford cyclohexenes has been developed. It was shown that the assisting olefin moiety was indispensable for the formation of the cyclohexene product. Furthermore, preliminary studies on chiral anion-induced asymmetrical carbocyclization-borylation of enallenes have been carried out.

Abstract
![]()
A highly
selective cascade reaction that allows the direct transformation of
dienallenes to spirocyclobutenes (spiro[3.4]octenes) as single diastereoisomers
has been developed. The reaction involves formation of overall four
C–C bonds and proceeds via a palladium-catalyzed oxidative
transformation with insertion of olefin, olefin, and carbon monoxide.
Under slightly different reaction conditions, an additional CO insertion
takes place to give spiro[4.4]nonenes with formation of overall five
C–C bonds.

Abstract
![]()
Herein
we report a highly efficient and site-selective palladium-catalyzed
oxidative carbocyclization–arylation reaction of bisallenes
and arylboronic acids under operationally simple conditions for the
selective synthesis of cyclohexadiene derivatives. The palladium source
and the solvent proved to be crucial for the selectivity and the reactivity
displayed. Interestingly, in the absence of the nucleophile, an oxidative
carbocyclization-β-elimination pathway predominates. The reaction
conditions are compatible with a wide range of functional groups,
and the reaction exhibits broad substrate scope. Furthermore, key
information regarding the mechanism was obtained using control experiments
and kinetic studies.
