Abstract
The cyclopropane ring features prominently in active pharmaceuticals, and this has spurred the development of synthetic methodologies that effectively incorporate this highly strained motif into such molecules. As such, elegant solutions to prepare densely functionalized cyclopropanes, particularly ones embedded within the core of complex structures, have become increasingly sought-after. Here we report the stereospecific synthesis of a set of cyclopropanes with vicinal quaternary stereocenters via the solvent-free solid-state photodenitrogenation of crystalline 1-pyrazolines. Density functional theory calculations at the M062X/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory were used to determine the origin of regioselectivity for the synthesis of the 1-pyrazolines; favorable in-phase frontier molecular orbital interactions are responsible for the observation of a single pyrazoline regioisomer. It was also shown that the loss of N2 may take place via a highly selective solid-state thermal reaction. Scalability of the solid-state photoreaction is enabled through aqueous nanocrystalline suspensions, making this method a "greener" alternative to effectively facilitate the construction of cyclopropane-containing molecular scaffolds.

Abstract
A simple and efficient approach for the synthesis of 2-spirocyclopropyl-indolin-3-ones is herein described. The method involves a diasteroselective cyclopropanation of aza-aurones with tosylhydrazones, selected as versatile carbene sources, and represents a remarkable synthetic alternative to get access to this class of C2-spiropseudoindoxyl scaffolds. The reactions proceed in the presence of a base and catalytic amounts of benzyl triethylammonium chloride and well-tolerate a broad range of substituents on both aza-aurones and tosylhydrazones to afford a series of C2-spirocyclopropanated derivatives in high yields. In addition, selected functional group transformations of the final products were explored demonstrating the synthetic potential of these indole-based derivatives.

Abstract
The [2+1] cycloaddition reaction of a metal carbene with an alkene can produce important cyclopropane products for synthetic intermediates, materials, and pharmaceutical applications. However, this reaction is often accompanied by side reactions, such as coupling and self-coupling, so that the yield of the cyclopropanation product of non-silver transition-metal carbenes and hindered alkenes is generally lower than 50 %. To solve this problem, the addition of a low concentration of diazo compound (decomposition of sulfonyl hydrazones) to alkenes catalyzed by either CuOAc or PdCl2 was studied, but side reactions could still not be avoided. Interestingly, however, the yield of cyclopropanation products for such hindered alkenes were as high as 99 % with AgOTf as a catalyst. To explain this unexpected phenomenon, reaction pathways have been computed for four different catalysts by using DFT. By combining the results of these calculations with those obtained experimentally, it can be concluded that the efficiency of the silver catalyst is due to the barrierless concerted cycloaddition step and the kinetic inhibition of side reactions by a high concentration of alkene.

Abstract
Donor and donor-donor carbenes are two important kinds of carbenes, which have experienced tremendous growth in the past two decades. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent development of donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry. The development of this chemistry offers efficient protocols to construct a wide variety of C-C and C-X bonds in organic synthesis. This review is organized based on the different types of carbene precursors, including diazo compounds, hydrazones, enynones, cycloheptatrienes and cyclopropenes. The typical transformations, the reaction mechanisms, as well as their subsequent applications in the synthesis of complex natural products and bioactive molecules are discussed. Due to the rapidly increasing interest in this area, we believe that this review will provide a timely and comprehensive discussion of recent progress in donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry.

Abstract
A formal [4 + 2] cycloaddition of N-tosylhydrazones with ortho-quinone methides was developed, affording the facile synthesis of diverse 1,3-oxazine derivatives under mild conditions. In this transformation, N-tosylhydrazones are used as a 1,2-dipole synthon under base-free conditions. Moreover, the substrate scope is broad, and the products are formed with high diastereoselectivities in most of the cases.

Abstract
The first example of the epoxidation reaction of trifluoromethylketones with N-tosylhydrazones under transition-metal free conditions is reported. This epoxidation reaction provided tetrasubstituted trifluoromethylated oxiranes with excellent yields and diastereoselectivities. The salient features of this reaction include readily available starting materials, mild conditions, broad substrate scope, high efficiency, and valuable further applications. Remarkably, this reaction proceeded through an unprecedented nucleophilic addition process, and the ammonium O-anion intermediate was detected and characterized by NMR and HRMS analysis.

Abstract
A base-promoted three-component coupling of carbon dioxide, amines, and N-tosylhydrazones has been developed. The reaction is suggested to proceed via a carbocation intermediate and constitutes an efficient and versatile approach for the synthesis of a wide range of organic carbamates. The advantages of this method include the use of readily available substrates, excellent functional group tolerance, wide substrate scope, and a facile work-up procedure.

Abstract
ortho-Aminated vinylarene derivatives were obtained via a reaction of aryl iodides, N-benzoyloxyamines, and N-tosylhydrazones. This approach involves a palladium-catalyzed, norbornene-mediated ortho-amination/N-tosylhydrazone insertion reaction. In this transformation, one C-N bond and one C-C bond are formed and an amine group is introduced at the ortho position successfully.
