Abstract
α-Haloenals, especially, α-bromoenals considered as one of the important building blocks in organic synthesis. They can participate in various (3+2)-, (3+3)-, (3+4)-, and (2+4)-annulation reactions with other organic molecules in the presence of an NHC catalyst to produce enantioenriched carbo-, and heterocyclic compounds. Herein, we have described NHC-catalyzed enantioselective transformations of α-bromoenals in the synthesis of various heterocycles, and carbocycles, as well as acyclic organic compounds.

Abstract
A series of novel heterogeneous gold(i) catalysts were synthesized by immobilizing gold(i) complexes on ordered mesoporous polymer FDU-15 and characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption–desorption, FT-IR, TEM, EDS, etc. The catalytic activities of these catalysts were evaluated by the amination reactions of allylic alcohols. Among the catalysts investigated, FDU-(p-CF3Ph)2PAuCl (3d) was identified as the most efficient catalyst. Compared to the homogeneous catalyst, the enhanced catalytic activity of the heterogeneous gold(i) catalyst is closely related to the mesoporous structure of FDU-15. The catalytic system was suitable for a broad range of substrates and can be easily recovered and recycled at least twelve times without significant loss of catalytic activity. In addition, the catalytic performance of 3d was further examined for intramolecular cyclization for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Preparation of highly ordered mesoporous polymer supported gold(i) catalyst as efficient and recyclable catalysts for construction of carbon–hetero bond.![]()

Recent Advances in the Synthesis of Spiroheterocycles via N-Heterocyclic Carbene Organocatalysis. Molecules 2017; 22:molecules22111882. Abstract
Spiroheterocycles are regarded as a privileged framework because of their wide distribution in various natural products and synthetic molecules and promising bioactivities. This review focuses on the recent advances in the synthesis of spiroheterocycles by using the strategy of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) organocatalysis, and is organized based on the stereoselectivity and the reactive intermediates. According to the stereochemistry, this review was divided into two main parts, covering racemic and enantioselective versions. In each part, we firstly describe the synthetic transformations using nucleophilic Breslow intermediates, and then discuss the reactions that employ electrophilic acylazolium or radical cation intermediates. With those distinct catalytic activation modes of NHC organocatlysis, we expect this synthetic protocol will possibly produce new molecules with structural novelty and complexity, which may warrant further research in the field of drug discovery.

Abstract
Herein we report the enantioselective (4+2) annulation of donor-acceptor cyclobutanes and unsaturated acyl fluorides using N-heterocyclic carbene catalysis. The reaction allows a 3-step synthesis of cyclohexyl β-lactones (25 examples) in excellent chemical yield (most ≥90 %) and stereochemical integrity (all >20:1 d.r., most ≥97:3 e.r.). Mechanistic studies support ester enolate Claisen rearrangement, while derivatizations provide functionalized cyclohexenes and dihydroquinolinones.

Abstract
An in situ NHC-catalyzed activation strategy to β-functionalize saturated carboxylic acid was developed. This asymmetric formal [3+2] annulation could deliver spirocyclic oxindolo-γ-butyrolactones from saturated carboxylic acid and isatin in good yields with high to excellent enantioselectivities. The easy availability of the starting materials, direct installation of functional units at unreactive carbon atom and the convergent assembly make this protocol attractive in the field of organic synthesis.

Abstract
NHC-catalyzed divergent annulation of enals with heterocyclic enones was developed to produce benzofuran/indole-containing ε-lactones or spiro-heterocycles in a highly diastereo- and enantioselective fashion. The chemo-selectivity controlled by the chiral catalyst backbone is particularly noteworthy.

Abstract
Isothiourea HBTM-2.1 promotes the catalytic asymmetric α-functionalization of 3-alkenoic acids through formal [2 + 2] cycloadditions with N-tosyl aldimines and formal [4 + 2] cycloadditions with either 4-aryltrifluoromethyl enones or N-aryl-N-aroyl diazenes, providing useful synthetic building blocks in good yield and with excellent enantiocontrol (up to >99% ee). Stereodefined products are amenable to further synthetic elaboration through manipulation of the olefinic functionality.

Abstract
The first N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed stereoselective aza-Michael-Michael-lactonization cascade reaction of 2'-aminophenylenones and 2-bromoenals for the construction of chiral functionalized tetrahydroquinolines with three consecutive stereogenic centers has been achieved in high yields (up to 98%) with excellent diastereo- (>25:1) and enantioselectivities (up to 98.7% ee).

Abstract
γ-Amination: The title reaction was developed to give the corresponding dihydropyridazinones in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (see scheme; Mes=2,4,6-trimethylphenyl). The annulation reaction worked well for γ-aryl, γ-alkyl, or γ-alkenyl oxidized enals. Highly enantiopure tetrahydropyridazinones and γ-amino acid derivatives could be easily prepared by chemical transformations of the resulting dihydropyridazinones.
