Heterometallic Clusters [CuSn3S9]5−and [Cu6Sn6S20]10−: Solvothermal Synthesis and Characterization of 4f-3d Thiostannates

Systematic Access of Ternary Organotetrel-Copper Chalcogenide Clusters by [PhTE3 ]3- Anions (T=Si, Sn; E=S, Se)

Fragmentation reactions of organotetrel chalcogenide heteroadamantane-type clusters [(PhT)4 E6 ] (T/E=Si/S (1); Si/Se; Sn/S, and Sn/Se) by addition of the corresponding sodium chalcogenide gave salts of the general formula Na3 [PhTE3 ], with T/E=Si/S (2); Si/Se (3); Sn/S (A); Sn/Se (4). Reaction of these salts with [Cu(PPh3 )3 Cl] gave a series of organotetrel-copper chalcogenide clusters [(CuPPh3 )6 (PhTE3 )2 ] with T/E=Si/S; (5), Si/Se (6), Sn/S (7) and Sn/Se (8). Compounds 5-8 share a common structural motif with two intact {PhTE3 } units coordinating a Cu6 moiety, which was previously reported with other ligands, and for the Sn and Ge congeners only. If the Sn/Se reaction system was allowed to crystallize more slowly, single crystals of compound [(CuPPh3 )6 (PhSnSe3 )3 Cu3 SnSe] (9) were obtained, which are based on a larger cluster structure. Hence, 9 might form from 8 through incorporation of additional cluster fragments. The experimentally and quantum chemically determined optical properties were compared to related clusters.

Cotemplating Assembly and Structural Variation of Three-Dimensional Open-Framework Sulfides

Open-framework sulfides (H₃O)KCu₆Ge₂S₈ (1) and (H₃O)RbCu₆Ge₂S₈ (2) were prepared by a cotemplating strategy. This shows that alkali-metal and protonated water cations act as cotemplates to direct the three-dimensional open-framework sulfides. These templates direct two types of one-dimensional channels that arrange parallelly, and different types of templates reside in different types of channels. By introduction of the Cs cation into the synthetic systems of 1 and 2, (H₃O)K_0.6Cs_0.4Cu₆Ge₂S₈ (3) and (H₃O)Rb_0.75Cs_0.25Cu₆Ge₂S₈ (4) were obtained. Compound 3 has a different anionic framework from those of 1 and 2, while 4 is isostructural with 1 and 2.

Ternary Mixed-Valence Organotin Copper Selenide Clusters

Reactions of the organotin selenide chloride clusters [(R¹ Sn^IV )₃ Se₄ Cl] (A, R¹ =CMe₂ CH₂ C(O)Me) or [(R¹ Sn^IV )₄ Se₆ ] (B) with [Cu(PPh₃ )_3-x Cl_x ] yield cluster compounds with different inorganic, mixed-valence core structures: [Cu₄ Sn^II Sn^IV₆ Se₁₂ ], [Cu₂ Sn^II₂ Sn^IV₄ Se₈ Cl₂ ], [Cu₂ Sn^II Sn^IV₄ Se₈ ], [Cu₂ Sn^II₂ Sn^IV₂ Se₄ Cl₄ ], and [Cu₂ Sn^IV₂ Se₄ ]. Five of the compounds, namely [(CuPPh₃ )₂ {(R¹ Sn^IV )₂ Se₄ }] (1), [(CuPPh₃ )₂ Sn^II {(R² Sn^IV )₂ Se₄ }₂ ] (2), [(CuPPh₃ )₂ (Sn^II Cl)₂ {(RSn^IV )₂ Se₄ }₂ ] (3) [(CuPPh₃ )₂ (Sn^II Cu₂ ){(R¹ Sn^IV )₂ Se₄ }₃ ] (4), and [Cu(CuPPh₃ )(Sn^II Cu₂ ){(R¹ Sn^IV )₂ Se₄ }₃ ] (5) are structurally closely related. They are based on [(CuPPh₃ )₂ {(RSn^IV )₂ Se₄ }_n ] aggregates comprising [(RSn^IV )₂ Se₄ ] and [CuPPh₃ ] building units, which are linked by further metal atoms. A sixth compound, [(CuPPh₃ )₂ (Sn^II Cl)₂ {(R¹ Sn^IV Cl)Se₂ }₂ ] (6), differs from the others by containing [(RSn^IV Cl)Se₂ ] units instead, which affects the absorption properties. The compounds were analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR and ¹¹⁹ Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy, DFT calculations as well as optical absorption experiments.

[Mn(dien)2]MnSnS4, [Mn(1,2-dap)]2Sn2S6 and [Mn(en)2]MnGeS4: from 1D anionic and neutral chains to 3D neutral frameworks

Three new organic–inorganic hybrid manganese thiogermanates and thiostannates with 1D anionic or neutral chains and 3D neutral frameworks have been synthesized and feature interesting antiferromagnetic or ferromagnetic properties.

Assembly and structural transformation of organic-decorated manganese selenidostannates

Presented here are three organic-decorated manganese selenidostannates with various structural dimensionalities (D), namely, 1D – SnSe3Mn(en)2 (en = ethylenediamine) (1), 2D – SnSe3Mn(en) (2) and 3D – MnSnSe4Mn(en)2 (3). 2 and 3 represent the first 2D and 3D organic-decorated Mn–Sn–Se compounds, respectively. A structural transformation was observed between 1 and 2.

[enH][Cu2AgSnS4]: a quaternary layered sulfide based on Cu–Ag–Sn–S composition

A new copper–silver–thiostannate, [enH][Cu₂AgSnS₄] (1), which features a quaternary two dimensional anionic [Cu₂AgSnS₄]⁻ layer, has been solvothermally synthesized.
