Abstract
The mono N-alkylation of arylamines using alkylamines as alkyl group donors has been scarcely investigated. In this work, we report the mono N-alkylation of several arylamines (52-95%) catalyzed by the complex ruthenium-triphos in the presence of Al(OTf)3. Moreover, the highly reductant ability of the catalyst system allows the tandem reduction/N-alkylation of nitrobenzenes in good yields (up to 80%). In addition, the catalyst can be recycled after three reaction cycles without loss of catalyst activity.

Abstract
The solution behavior of complex [Rh(COD)(μ-OAc)]2 in the absence and presence of PPN+OAc- in dichloromethane has been investigated in detail by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Without additional acetate ions, the compound shows dynamic behavior at room temperature, consistent with an inversion of its C2v structure. Addition of PPN+OAc- reveals an equilibrated generation of [Rh(COD)(OAc)2]-. Rapid exchange is observed at room temperature between the neutral dimer and the anionic mononuclear complex, as well as between the anionic complex and free acetate. Lowering the temperature to 213 K freezes the exchange between the two Rh complexes, but fast exchange between the anionic Rh complex and free acetate maintains coalesced Me (1H and 13C) and COO (13C) NMR resonances. DFT calculations support the experimental data and lean in favour of a dissociative mechanism for the acetate exchange in [Rh(COD)(OAc)2]-. The acetate ligands in complex [Rh(COD)(μ-OAc)]2 are also exchanged in a biphasic (water/organic) system with the methacrylic acid (MAA) functions of hydrosoluble [MMA0.5-co-PEOMA0.5]30 copolymer chains (PEOMA = poly(ethylene oxide) methyl ether methacrylate), resulting in transfer of the Rh complex to the aqueous phase. Exchange with the MAA functions in the same polymer equally takes place for the chloride ligands of [Rh(COD)(μ-Cl)]2. The latter phenomenon rationalizes the coagulation of a core-crosslinked micelle (CCM) latex, where MMA functions are present on the hydrophilic CCM shell, when a dichloromethane solution of [Rh(COD)(μ-Cl)]2 is added.

Abstract
Two naphthalene-diimide (NDI) bis-imidazolium salts have been used as N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors for the preparation of NDI-functionalized complexes of rhodium and iridium of general formula [MCl(NDI-NHC)(COD)] (M=Rh, Ir; NDI-NHC=NDI-functionalized NHC ligand). Comparison of the IR spectra of the complexes [IrCl(NDI-NHC)(CO)2 ] and their related one- and two-electron reduced forms, reveal that each one-electron reduction produces a decrease of the average ν(CO) of 9-10 cm-1 , indicating a significant enhancement of the electron-richness of the metal. The [MCl(NDI-NHC)(COD)] complexes were tested in the catalytic cycloisomerization of alkynoic acids. The one-electron reduced forms showed greatly enhanced activities. For the cyclization of 5-hexynoic acid, the two-electron reduction of the ligand produced further enhancement of the catalytic activity, therefore showing that the catalyst can switch between three redox species with three distinct catalytic activities.

Abstract
Cobalt complexes with 2-(diisopropylphosphinomethyl)pyridine (PN) ligands have been synthesized with the aim of demonstrating electrocatalytic proton reduction to dihydrogen with a well-defined hydride complex of an Earth-abundant metal. Reactions of simple cobalt precursors with 2-(diisopropylphosphino-methyl)pyridine (PN) yield [CoII(PN)2(MeCN)][BF4]2 1, [CoIII(PN)2(H)(MeCN)][PF6]2 2, and [CoIII(PN)2(H)(Cl)][PF6] 3. Complexes 1 and 3 have been characterized crystallographically. Unusually for a bidentate PN ligand, all three exhibit geometries with mutually trans phosphorus and nitrogen ligands. Complex 1 exhibits a distorted square-pyramidal geometry with an axial MeCN ligand in a low-spin electronic state. In complexes 2 and 3, the PN ligands lie in a plane leaving the hydride trans to MeCN or chloride, respectively. The redox behavior of the three complexes has been studied by cyclic voltammetry at variable scan rates and by spectroelectrochemistry. A catalytic wave is observed in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) at an applied potential close to the Co(II/I) couple of 1. Bulk electrolysis of 1, 2, or 3 at a potential of ca. -1.4 V vs E(Fc+/Fc) in the presence of TFA yields H2 with Faradaic yields close to 100%. A catalytic mechanism is proposed in which the pyridine moiety of a PN ligand acts as a pendant proton donor following opening of the chelate ring. Additional mechanisms may also operate, especially in the presence of high acid concentration where speciation changes.

Abstract
[Cp*Rh] complexes (Cp* = η 5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) supported by bidentate chelating ligands are useful in studies of redox chemistry and catalysis, but little information is available for derivatives bearing "hybrid" [P,N] chelates. Here, the preparation, structural characterization, and chemical and electrochemical properties of a [Cp*Rh] complex bearing the κ2-[P,N]-2-[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]pyridine ligand (PN) are reported. Cyclic voltammetry data reveal that [Cp*Rh(PN)Cl]PF6 (1) undergoes a chemically reversible, net two-electron reduction at -1.28 V vs. ferrocenium/ferrocene, resulting in generation of a rhodium(I) complex (3) that is stable on the timescale of the voltammetry. However, 1H and 31P{1H} NMR studies reveal that chemical reduction of 1 generates a mixture of products over a 1 h timescale; this mixture forms as a result of deprotonation of the methylene group of 1 by 3 followed by further reactivity. The analogous complex [Cp*Rh(PQN)Cl]PF6 (2; PQN = κ2-[P,N]-8-(diphenylphosphino)quinoline) does not undergo self-deprotonation or further reactivity upon two-electron reduction, confirming the reactivity of the acidic backbone methylene C-H bonds in the PN complexes. Comparison of the electrochemical properties 1 and 2 also shows that the extended conjugated system of PQN contributes to an additional ligand-centered redox event for 2 that is absent for 1.

Abstract
Diverse P,N-phosphine ligands reported to date have performed exceptionally well as auxiliary ligands in organometallic catalysis. Phosphines bearing 2-pyridyl moieties prominently feature in literature as compared to phosphines with five-membered N-heterocycles. This discussion seeks to paint a broad picture and consolidate different synthetic protocols and techniques for N-heterocyclic phosphine motifs. The introduction provides an account of P,N-phosphine ligands, and their structural and coordination benefits from combining heteroatoms with different basicity in one ligand. The body discusses the synthetic protocols which focus on P–C, P–N-bond formation, substrate and nucleophile types and different N-heterocycle construction strategies. Selected references are given in relation to the applications of the ligands.

Abstract
A combination of ruthenium catalyst with silver salt and copper salt was proved to be a highly efficient protocol for the direct addition reaction of benzoic acids with unsymmetrical trifluoromethylated internal alkynes. Diverse trifluoromethyl group-substituted (E)-enol esters were readily obtained for a broad substrate scope in moderate to good yields with excellent regio- and stereoselectivities under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
In the present work, the rich chemistry of rhodium/phosphine complexes, which are applied as homogeneous catalysts to promote a wide range of chemical transformations, has been used to showcase how the in situ generation of precatalysts, the conversion of precatalysts into the actually active species, as well as the reaction of the catalyst itself with other components in the reaction medium (substrates, solvents, additives) can lead to a number of deactivation phenomena and thus impact the efficiency of a catalytic process. Such phenomena may go unnoticed or may be overlooked, thus preventing the full understanding of the catalytic process which is a prerequisite for its optimization. Based on recent findings both from others and the authors’ laboratory concerning the chemistry of rhodium/diphosphine complexes, some guidelines are provided for the optimal generation of the catalytic active species from a suitable rhodium precursor and the diphosphine of interest; for the choice of the best solvent to prevent aggregation of coordinatively unsaturated metal fragments and sequestration of the active metal through too strong metal–solvent interactions; for preventing catalyst poisoning due to irreversible reaction with the product of the catalytic process or impurities present in the substrate.

Abstract
A pulsed gradient spin echo experiment on [Rh2(1,3-bis-(diphenylphosphino)-propane)2(μ2-Cl)2] complex has been conducted in order to shed light on the supposed monomerisation process of [Rh2(diphosphine)2(μ2-Cl)2] complexes in solution. Such a process should generate a 14-electron [Rh(diphosphine)Cl] complex, which has only been postulated to date. Metathesis experiments on [Rh2(1,3-bis-(diphenylphosphino)-propane)2(μ2-Cl)2] and [Rh2(bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether)2(μ2-Cl)2] complexes, analysed by 31P NMR, reveal that monomerisation of [Rh2(diphosphine)2(μ2-Cl)2] complexes is not restricted to the case of 1,3-bis-(diphenylphosphino)propane.

Abstract
Diverse late transition metal catalysts convert terminal or internal alkynes into transient allylmetal species that display electrophilic or nucleophilic properties. Whereas classical methods for the generation of allylmetal species often form stoichiometric by-products, the recent use of alkynes as allylmetal precursors enables completely atom-efficient catalytic processes to be carried out, including enantioselective transformations.

Abstract
The title compound, [Rh(C8H12)(C18H16NP)]BF4has been prepared as a precatalyst for applications in rhodium-catalysed additions of carbocyclic acids to terminal alkynes leading toanti-MarkovnikovZ-enol esters. Here the triclinic pseudopolymorph of the title compound is presented. In contrast to the earlier reported pseudopolymorph (orthorhombic space group) [Weiet al.(2013).Chem. Eur. J.19, 12067–12076], the triclinic polymorph contains half a molecule of dichloromethane as solvent in the asymmetric unit. The rhodium(I) atom exhibits a square-planar coordination. The estimated diffraction contribution of the disordered solvent (a half molecule of dichloroethane per asymmetric unit) was subtracted from the observed diffraction data using the SQUEEZE [Spek (2015).Acta Cryst.C71, 9–16] routine inPLATON. The given chemical formula and other crystal data do not take the solvent into account.

Abstract
Dimeric rhodium complexes of the type [Rh(PP)(μ2 -Cl)]2 (PP=diphosphine) are often used as precatalysts and are generated "in situ" from the corresponding diolefin complexes by exchange of the diene with the desired diphosphine. Herein, we report that the "in situ" procedure also leads to unexpected monomeric pentacoordinated neutral complexes of the type [RhCl(PP)(diolefin)], for the first time herein characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography for the ligands 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane (DPPP), 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (DPPB), and 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl (BINAP). The pentacoordinated complexes are in equilibrium with the dimeric target compound [Rh(PP)(μ2 -Cl)]2 . The equilibrium is influenced by the rhodium-diolefin precursor, the solvent and the temperature. Based on the results of NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopic analysis (kinetics) it could be shown that the pentacoordinated complex [RhCl(PP)(diolefin)] may arise both from the "in situ"-generated neutral complex [Rh(PP)(μ2 -Cl)] by reaction with the free diolefin and, more surprisingly, directly from [Rh(diolefin)(μ2 -Cl)]2 and the diphosphine.
