Abstract
Electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) via two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process is emerging as a promising alternative method to the conventional anthraquinone process. To realize high-efficiency H2 O2 electrosynthesis, robust and low cost electrocatalysts have been intensively pursued, among which Co-based catalysts attract particular research interests due to the earth-abundance and high selectivity. Here, we provide a comprehensive review on the advancement of Co-based electrocatalyst for H2 O2 electroproduction. The fundamental chemistry of 2-electron ORR is discussed firstly for guiding the rational design of electrocatalysts. Subsequently, the development of Co-based electrocatalysts involving nanoparticles, compounds and single atom catalysts is summarized with the focus on active site identification, structure regulation and mechanism understanding. Moreover, the current challenges and future directions of the Co-based electrocatalysts are briefly summarized in this review.

Abstract
We report here, a strategy to prepare Pt/Pd nanoparticles decorated with Co-N-C materials, where Co-N-C was obtained via pyrolysis of ZIF-67 directly. As-prepared Pt/Pd/Co-N-C catalysts showed excellent ORR performance, offered with a higher limit current density (6.6 mA cm−2) and similar half-wave potential positive (E1/2 = 0.84 V) compared with commercial Pt/C. In addition to an ORR activity, it also exhibits robust durability. The current density of Pt/Pd/Co-N-C decreased by only 9% after adding methanol, and a 10% current density loss was obtained after continuous testing at 36,000 s.

Abstract
Abstract
Glycerol electrooxidation has attracted immense attention due to the economic advantage it could add to biodiesel production. One of the significant challenges for the industrial development of glycerol electrooxidation process is the search for a suitable electrocatalyst that is sustainable, cost effective, and tolerant to carbonaceous species, results in high performance, and is capable of replacing the conventional Pt/C catalyst. We review suitable, sustainable, and inexpensive alternative electrocatalysts with enhanced activity, selectivity, and durability, ensuring the economic viability of the glycerol electrooxidation process. The alternatives discussed here include Pd-based, Au-based, Ni-based, and Ag-based catalysts, as well as the combination of two or three of these metals. Also discussed here are the prospective materials that are yet to be explored for glycerol oxidation but are reported to be bifunctional (being capable of both anodic and cathodic reaction). These include heteroatom-doped metal-free electrocatalysts, which are carbon materials doped with one or two heteroatoms (N, B, S, P, F, I, Br, Cl), and heteroatom-doped nonprecious transition metals. Rational design of these materials can produce electrocatalysts with activity comparable to that of Pt/C catalysts. The takeaway from this review is that it provides an insight into further study and engineering applications on the efficient and cost-effective conversion of glycerol to value-added chemicals.

Abstract
Metallic matrix materials have emerged as an ideal platform to hybridize with next-generation electrode materials such as silicon for practical applications in Li-ion batteries. However, these metallic species commonly exist in the form of isolated particles, failing to provide enough free space for silicon volume changes as well as continuous charge transport pathways. Herein, three-dimensional (3D) metallic frameworks with interconnected pore channels and conductive skeletons, have been synthesized from inorganic gel precursors as buffering/conducting matrices to boost lithium storage performance of silicon anodes. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, commercial Si particles are in situ immobilized within the Sn-Ni alloy framework via a facile gel-reduction route, and the rearrangement of Si particles during cycling increases the dispersity of Si in the Sn-Ni framework as well as their synergic effects toward lithium storage. The Si@Sn-Ni all-metallic framework manifests high structural integrity, 3D Li+/e- mixed conduction pathway, and synergic effects of interfacial bonding and concurrent reaction dynamics between active Si and Sn, enabling long-term cycle life (1205 mA h g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g-1) and superior rate capability (653 mA h g-1 at 10 A g-1).

Abstract
Direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs) with a high conversion efficiency are quite promising candidates for energy conversion devices. Herein, we have successfully synthesized PdCo alloy nanocubes supported on carbon nanobowl (denoted as Pd2Co1/CNB) nanohybrids by using the cyanogel auto-reduction method at high temperature. The morphology, composition and structure of Pd2Co1/CNB nanohybrids are characterized in detail, revealing that PdCo nanocubes have a high alloying degree and special {110} facets. In cyclic voltammetry measurements, Pd2Co1/CNB nanohybrids show a mass activity of 1089.0 A g Pd-1 and a specific activity of 40.03 mA cm-2 for ethanol electrooxidation at peak potential, which are much higher than that of the commercial Pd/C electrocatalyst (278.2 A gPd-1 and 8.22 mA cm-2). Additionally, chronoamperometry measurements show that Pd2Co1/CNB nanohybrids have excellent durability for ethanol electrooxidation. A high alloying degree, special {110} facets and the CNB supporting material contribute to the high activity and durability of Pd2Co1/CNB nanohybrids, making them a highly promising Pt-alternative electrocatalyst for ethanol electrooxidation in DEFCs.

Abstract
Promoting surface strains in heterogeneous catalysts and heteroatomic interactions in alloying offer an effective strategy for the development of electrocatalysts with greatly enhanced activity. In this work, we design platinum-silver nanotubes (PtAg NTs) with tunable surface compositions by a controlled galvanic replacement reaction of well-defined Ag nanowires (NWs). The optimized and porous PtAg NTs (PtAg-4 NTs), with the Pt5Ag3 surface composition and (111) facet-dominant surface features, exhibit an extraordinary oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity that reaches a specific activity of 1.13 mA cm-2 and a mass activity of 0.688 A mg-1Pt at 0.9 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE), which are 4.5 times and 4.3 times those of commercial Pt/C catalysts (0.25 mA cm-2 and 0.16 A mg-1Pt). Moreover, PtAg-4 NTs/C can endure under the ORR conditions over the course of 10 000 cycles with negligible activity decay. Remarkably, density functional theory simulations reveal that the porous PtAg-4 NTs exhibit enhanced adsorption interaction with adsorbates, attributed to the catalytically active sites on high-density (111) facets and modulation of the surface strain, further boosting the ORR activity and durability.

Abstract
Elaborate architectural manipulation of nanohybrids with multi-components into controllable 3D hierarchical structures is of great significance for both fundamental scientific interest and realization of various functionalities, yet remains a great challenge because different materials with distinct physical/chemical properties could hardly be incorporated simultaneously into the synthesis process. Here, we develop a novel one-pot cyanogel-bridged synthetic approach for the generation of 3D flower-like metal/Prussian blue analogue nanohybrids, namely PdCo/Pd-hexacyanocobaltate for the first time. The judicious introduction of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and the formation of cyanogel are prerequisite for the successful fabrication of such fascinating hierarchical nanostructures. Due to the unique 3D hierarchical structure and the synergistic effect between hybrid components, the as-prepared hybrid nanoflowers exhibit a remarkable catalytic activity and durability toward the reduction of Rhodamine B (RhB) by NaBH4. We expect that the obtained hybrid nanoflowers may hold great promises in water remediation field and beyond. Furthermore, the facile synthetic strategy presented here for synthesizing functional hybrid materials can be extendable for the synthesis of various functional hybrid nanomaterials owing to its versatility and feasibility.

Abstract
A class of 3D PdNi bimetallic nano-materials with porous nanostructures is synthesized using a facile and versatile approach at room temperature. Due to their porous nanostructures, their clean surfaces, as well as the synergistic effect between their compositions, the as-prepared PdNi exhibit greatly enhanced activity and stability towards methanol electrooxidation in an alkaline medium, holding great promise in fuel cells.

Abstract
The Pt84Pb16 (atomic ratio) bimetallic alloy nanoflowers (Pt84Pb16 BANFs) are synthesized by a simple one-pot hydrothermal reduction method that effectively enhance the dehydrogenation pathway of the formic acid oxidation reaction (FAOR) due to the ensemble effect and the electronic effect. As a result, the mass activity of Pt84Pb16 BANFs for the FAOR is 16.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt black at 0.3 V potential.

Abstract
Self-supporting PtP nanotube arrays composed of interconnected PtP alloy nanocrystals exhibited excellent activity and durability for the ORR in acidic medium.
Nanostructured Pt-metal alloys have shown impressive catalytic properties for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic medium, but their long-term stability has not been satisfactory. Herein, we look beyond the traditional Pt-metal alloys and have developed a new kind of Pt-nonmetal alloy electrocatalyst for the ORR. Specifically, the novel catalyst is composed of interconnected platinum monophosphide (PtP) alloy nanocrystals (∼3–4 nm) and featured supportless nanotube array morphologies. Due to the unique combination of composition and structure, the obtained PtP alloy nanotube arrays not only exhibited remarkable ORR activity, but also showed almost no degradation of the half-wave potential after accelerated durability tests. The result suggests that alloying Pt with a nonmetallic element (such as P) is indeed an effective approach to address the poor stability of Pt-based catalysts in acidic medium.

Abstract
Three-dimensionally (3D) porous morphology of nanostructures can effectively improve their electrocatalytic activity and durability for various electrochemical reactions owing to big surface area and interconnected structure. Cyanogel, a jelly-like inorganic polymer, can be used to synthesize various three-dimensionally (3D) porous alloy nanomaterials owing to its double-metal property and particular 3D backbone. Here, 3D porous PdNi@Pt core-shell nanostructures (CSNSs) are facilely synthesized by first preparing the Pd-Ni alloy networks (Pd-Ni ANWs) core via cyanogel-reduction method followed by a galvanic displacement reaction to generate the Pt-rich shell. The as-synthesized PdNi@Pt CSNSs exhibit a much improved catalytic activity and durability for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in the acidic media compared to the commercial used Pt black because of their specific structural characteristics. The facile and mild method described herein is highly attractive for the synthisis of 3D porous core-shell nanostructures.

Abstract
The high-quality Pt48Ag52 alloy nano-octahedra are synthesized via one-pot hydrothermal method. The catalytic growth of Ag(0) atoms on Pt nuclei and selective oxidative etching on the Ag(0) atoms contribute to the formation of alloy nano-octahedra. Pt48Ag52 alloy nano-octahedra show excellent electrocatalytic activity and durability for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR).

Abstract
We have prepared multilayer mesoporous bimetallic (Pt/Pd) alternating films by layer-by-layer (LbL) electrochemical deposition. Because of the high surface area and heterometallic interfacial atomic contacts, enhanced electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation reaction is realized. This novel LbL approach allows optimization of the electrocatalytic performance through precise tuning of the thickness of each layer.
