Hydrosilylation Induced by N→Si Intramolecular Coordination: Spontaneous Transformation of Organosilanes into 1-Aza-Silole-Type Molecules in the Absence of a Catalyst

CycloSiFA: The Next Generation of Silicon-Based Fluoride Acceptors for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

The ring-opening Si-fluorination of a variety of azasilole derivatives cyclo-1-(iPr2 Si)-4-X-C6 H3 -2-CH2 NR (4: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=H; 4 a: R=2,4,6-Me3 C6 H2 , X=H; 9: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=tBuMe2 SiO; 10: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=OH; 13: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=HCCCH2 O; 22: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=tBuMe2 SiCH2 O) with different 19 F-fluoride sources was studied, optimized and the experience gained was used in a translational approach to create a straightforward 18 F-labelling protocol for the azasilole derivatives [18 F]6 and [18 F]14. The latter constitutes a potential clickable CycloSiFA prosthetic group which might be used in PET tracer development using Cu-catalysed triazole formation. Based on our findings, CycloSiFA has the potential to become a new entry into non-canonical labelling methodologies for radioactive PET tracer development.

Synthetic Approaches for the Construction of Five- and Six-Membered Silaazacycles

Silaazacycles (or azasilacycles), containing both nitrogen and silicon atoms, are appealing ring structures in the development of silicon-containing functional molecules. The development of general and efficient methods towards these motifs has therefore attracted considerable attention from synthetic chemists. This short review intends to highlight representative advances in the synthesis of five- and six-membered silaazacycles.

(N),C,N-Coordinated Heavier Group 13-15 Compounds: Synthesis, Structure and Applications

The aim of this review is to summarize recent achievements in the field of (N),C,N-coordinated group 13-15 compounds not only regarding their synthesis and structure, but mainly focusing on their potential applications. Relevant compounds contain various types of N-coordinating ligands built up on an ortho-(di)substituted phenyl platform. Thus, group 13 and 14 derivatives were used as single-source precursors for the deposition of semiconducting thin films, as building blocks for the preparation of high-molecular polymers with remarkable optical and chemical properties or as compounds with interesting reactivity in hydrometallation processes. Group 15 derivatives function as catalysts in the Mannich reaction, in the allylation of aldehydes or activation of CO₂ . They were used as transmetallation reagents in transition metal catalysed coupling reactions. The univalent species serve as ligands for transition metals, activate alkynes or alkenes and are utilized as catalysts in the transfer hydrogenation of azo-compounds.

Synthesis of N-Heterocycle Substituted Silyl Ligands within the Coordination Sphere of Iron

N-Heterocycle-substituted silyl iron complexes have been synthesized by nucleophilic substitution at trichlorosilyl ligands bound to iron. The homoleptic (tripyrrolyl)- and tris(3-methylindolyl)silyl groups were accessed from (Cl₃Si)CpFe(CO)₂ (Cl₃SiFp) by substitution of chloride with pyrrolide or 3-methylindolide, respectively. Analogously, nucleophilic substitution of Cl with pyrrolide on the anionic Fe(0) synthon Cl₃SiFe(CO)₄ ^- generates the (tripyrrolyl)silyl ligand, bound to the iron tetracarbonyl fragment. The bulkier 2-mesitylpyrrolide substitutes a maximum of 2 chlorides on Cl₃SiFp under the same conditions. The tridentate, trianionic nucleophile tmim (tmimH₃ = tris(3-methylindol-2-yl)methane) proves reluctant to perform the substitution in a straightforward manner; instead, ring-opening and incorporation of THF occurs to form the tris-THF adduct tmim(C₄H₈O)₃SiFe(CO)₄ ^-. The bidentate, monoanionic nucleophile 2-(dipp-iminomethyl)pyrrolide (^DippIMP, dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) shows chloride displacement and addition of a second ^DippIMP moiety on the imine backbone. The heterocycle-based silyl ligands were shown to be sterically and electronically tunable, moderately electron-donating ligands. The presented approach to new silyl ligands avoids strongly reducing conditions and potentially reactive hydrosilane intermediates.

Hydrosilylation of RN=CH Imino-Substituted Pyridines without a Catalyst

Treatment of the neutral pyridine-based ligands L¹ -L³ , bearing either one or two RN=CH imine moieties {where L¹ and L² are N,N-chelating ligands 2-(RN=CH)C₅ H₄ N (R=Ph (L¹ ) or R=2,4,6-Ph₃ C₆ H₂ (L² )) and L³ is the N,N,N-chelating ligand 2,6-(RN=CH)₂ C₅ H₃ N (R=2,6-iPr₂ C₆ H₃ )}, with HSiCl₃ yielded N→Si-coordinated silicon(IV) amides 2-{Cl₃ SiN(R)CH₂ }C₅ H₄ N (1, R=Ph; 2, R=2,4,6-Ph₃ C₆ H₂ ) and 2-{Cl₃ SiN(R)CH₂ }-6-(RN=CH)C₅ H₄ N (3, R=2,6-iPr₂ C₆ H₃ ). The organosilicon amides 1-3 are the products of spontaneous hydrosilylation of the RN=CH imine moiety induced by N→Si coordination of the proposed N,N-chelated chlorosilanes L¹ →SiHCl₃ (1 a), L² →SiHCl₃ (2 a), and L³ →SiHCl₃ (3 a). Furthermore, the reaction of L³ with an excess of HSiCl₃ provided the intramolecularly coordinated chlorosilicon diamide cyclo-{(C₅ H₃ N)-1,3-(CH₂ NR)₂ }SiCl₂ (4) (R=2,6-iPr₂ C₆ H₃ ) as the product of spontaneous reduction of both RN=CH imine moieties. The compounds have been characterized by NMR spectroscopy (1-4) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (1, 3, and 4). The mechanism of the hydrosilylation of the second RN=CH imine moiety in 3 by an excess of SiHCl₃ has also been studied. The experimental work is supplemented by DFT calculations.

Homolytic, Heterolytic, Mesolytic - As You Like It: Steering the Cleavage of a HC(sp3 )-C(sp3 )H Bond in Bis(1H-2,1-benzazaborole) Derivatives

A set of (3,3')-bis(1-Ph-2-R-1H-2,1-benzazaborole) compounds, in which R=tBu (Bab-tBu)₂ , R=Dipp (Bab-Dipp)₂ or R=tBu and Dipp (Bab-Dipp)(Bab-tBu), was synthesized and fully characterized using ¹ H, ¹¹ B, ¹³ C, and ¹⁵ N NMR spectroscopy as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The central HC(sp³ )-C(sp³ )H bond with restricted rotation at the junction of both 1H-2,1-benzazaborole rings displayed an intriguing reactivity. It was demonstrated that this bond is easily mesolytically cleaved using alkali metals to form the respective aromatic 1Ph-2R-1H-2,1-benzazaborolyl anions M⁺ (THF)_n (Bab-tBu)^- (M=Li, Na, K) and K⁺ (THF)_n (Bab-Dipp)^- . Furthermore, the central HC(sp³ )-C(sp³ )H bond of bis(1H-2,1-benzazaborole)s is also homolytically cleaved either by heating or photochemical means, giving corresponding 1Ph-2R-1H-2,1-benzazaborolyl radicals (Bab-tBu)^. and (Bab-Dipp)^. , which rapidly self-terminate. Nevertheless, their formation was unambiguously established by NMR analysis of the reaction mixtures containing products of the self-termination of the radicals after heating or irradiation. (Bab-Dipp)^. radical was also characterized using EPR spectroscopy. Importantly, it turned out that the essentially non-polarized HC(sp³ )-C(sp³ )H bond in (Bab-tBu)₂ is also cleaved heterolytically with 2 equiv of MeLi, giving the mixture of Li⁺ (SOL)_n (Bab-tBu)^- (SOL=THF or Et₂ O) and lithium methyl-substituted borate complex Li⁺ (SOL)_n (Bab-tBu-Me)^- in a diastereoselective fashion.

Hydrosilylation in Aryliminopyrrolide-Substituted Silanes

A range of silanes was synthesized by the reaction of HSiCl3 with iminopyrrole derivatives in the presence of NEt3 . In certain cases, intramolecular hydrosilylation converts the imine ligand into an amino substituent. This reaction is inhibited by factors such as electron-donating substitution on Si and steric bulk. The monosubstituted ((Dipp) IMP)SiHMeCl ((Dipp) IMP=2-[N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)iminomethyl]pyrrolide), is stable towards hydrosilylation, but slow hydrosilylation is observed for ((Dipp) IMP)SiHCl2 . Reaction of two equivalents of (Dipp) IMPH with HSiCl3 results in the hydrosilylation product ((Dipp) AMP)((Dipp) IMP)SiCl ((Dipp) AMP=2-[N-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)aminomethylene]pyrrolide), but the trisubsitituted ((Dipp) IMP)3 SiH is stable. Monitoring the hydrosilylation reaction of ((Dipp) IMP)SiHCl2 reveals a reactive pathway involving ligand redistribution reactions to form the disubstituted ((Dipp) AMP)((Dipp) IMP)SiCl as an intermediate. The reaction is strongly accelerated in the presence of chloride anions.

Spontaneous Double Hydrometallation Induced by N→M Coordination in Organometallic Hydrides of Group 14 Elements

Our attempts to synthesise N→M intramolecularly coordinated diorganometallic hydrides L2MH2 [M=Si (4), Ge (5), Sn (6)] containing the CH=N imine group (in which L is C,N-chelating ligand {2-[(2,6-iPr2C6H3)N=CH]C6 H4}(-)) yielded 1,1'-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2,2'-spriobi[benzo[c][1,2]azasilole] (7), 1,1'-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2,2'-spriobi[benzo[c][1,2]azagermole] (8) and C,N-chelated homoleptic stannylene L2Sn (10), respectively. Compounds 7 and 8 are an outcome of a spontaneous double hydrometallation of the two CH=N imine moieties induced by N→M intramolecular coordination (M=Si, Ge) in the absence of any catalyst. In contrast, the diorganotin hydride L2SnH2 (6) is redox-unstable and the reduction of the tin centre with the elimination of H2 provided the C,N-chelated homoleptic stannylene L2Sn (10). Compounds 7 and 8 were characterised by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. Because the proposed N→M intramolecularly coordinated diorganometallic hydrides L2MH2 [M=Si (4), Ge (5), Sn (6)] revealed two different types of reduction reactions, DFT calculations were performed to gain an insight into the structures and bonding of the non-isolable diorganometallic hydrides as well as the products of their subsequent reactions. Furthermore, the thermodynamic profiles of the different reaction pathways with respect to the central metal atom were also investigated.

Enantioselective conjugate addition of cyanide to chalcones catalyzed by a magnesium-Py-BINMOL complex

An efficient asymmetric conjugate addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) to chalcones, catalyzed by bifunctional Py-BINMOL-Mg complex, with moderate to good enantioselectivities and in good yields, has been realized in this work.

2-Acylpyrroles as mono-anionic O,N-chelating ligands in silicon coordination chemistry

Kryptopyrrole (2,4-dimethyl-3-ethylpyrrole) was acylated with, for example, benzoyl chloride to afford 2-benzoyl-3,5-dimethyl-4-ethylpyrrole (L(1)H). With SiCl4 this ligand reacts under liberation of HCl and formation of the complex L(1)2SiCl2. In related reactions with HSiCl3 or H2SiCl2, the same chlorosilicon complex is formed under liberation of HCl and H2 or liberation of H2, respectively. The chlorine atoms of L(1)2SiCl2 can be replaced by fluoride and triflate using ZnF2 and Me3Si-OTf, respectively. The use of a supporting base (triethylamine) is required for the complexation of phenyltrichlorosilane and diphenyldichlorosilane. The complexes L(1)2SiCl2, L(1)2SiF2, L(1)2Si(OTf)2, L(1)2SiPhCl, and L(1)2SiPh2 exhibit various configurations of the octahedral silicon coordination spheres (i.e. cis or trans configuration of the monodentate substituents, different orientations of the bidentate chelating ligands relative to each other). Furthermore, cationic silicon complexes L(1)3Si(+) and L(1) SiPh(+) were synthesized by chloride abstraction with GaCl3. In contrast, reaction of L(1)2SiCl2 with a third equivalent of L(1)H in the presence of excess triethylamine produced a charge-neutral hexacoordinate Si complex with a new tetradentate chelating ligand which formed by Si-templated C-C coupling of two ligands L(1).
