Abstract
Herein, we describe a gold(I)-catalyzed intermolecular formal [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition of a carbonyl compound and a propiolate. A series of highly substituted 2H-pyrans are accessed regioselectively from acyclic and cyclic ketones and aldehydes with various substituted propiolates using Ph3PAuCl (0.1-1 mol %) with two distinct metal triflate additives [0.75-7.5 mol %; In(OTf)3/Cu(OTf)2 for ketones, Bi(OTf)3/Hf(OTf)4 for aldehydes]. This method should provide an opportunity for further development of synthetic access to other heterocyclic compounds.

Abstract
In gold(I) catalysis, the activation of Au(I) chloride catalysts via chloride abstraction and noncovalent interactions has become a research focus in organometallic catalysis. In this work, taking halogen bond donors (C4H2INO2, C6F5I, C8H9O2I) as activators for a Au(I) chloride catalyst (Ph3PAuCl), the mechanism of the cyclization reaction of propargylic amide was investigated. It was found that there are two activation modes as design principles to obtain the catalytically active species Ph3PAu+: the halogen bond donors activate the Cl atoms of Ph3PAuCl to form X-I⋯Cl (X = C, N) classical halogen bonds and activate the Au atoms of Ph3PAuCl to form X-I⋯Au (X = C, N) metal-involved halogen bonds. For the two activation modes, the mechanism of the cyclization reaction of propargylic amide has pathways: the chloride abstraction process of the first step and the 5-exo/6-endo cyclization process of the second step. Both activation modes show good activity for the cyclization reaction with the activation ability of classical halogen bonds being slightly stronger than that of the metal-involved halogen bonds, which is consistent with the strength of the X-I⋯Cl halogen bonds being slightly stronger than that of the X-I⋯Au halogen bonds. Therefore, both metal-involved halogen bonds and classical halogen bonds have important development prospects for the activation of catalysts in gold(I) catalysis.

Abstract
H-bonded counterion-directed catalysis (HCDC) is a strategy wherein a chiral anion that is hydrogen-bonded to the achiral ligand of a metal complex is responsible for enantioinduction. In this article we present the application of H-bonded counterion-directed catalysis to the Au(I)-catalyzed enantioselective tandem cycloisomerization-addition reaction of 2-alkynyl enones. Following the addition of C-, N- or O-centered nucleophiles, bicyclic furans were obtained in moderate to excellent yield and enantioselectivity (28 examples, 59-96 % yield, 62 : 38 to 95 : 5 er). The optimal catalytic system, comprising a phosphinosquaramide Au(I) chloride complex and a BINOL-derived phosphoramidate Ag(I) salt, was selected in a combinatorial fashion from a larger library with the help of high-throughput screening. An enantioselectivity switch of ca. 120 Δee% was observed upon addition of the achiral Au(I) component to the Ag(I) salt.

Abstract
The gold-catalyzed hydration reaction of haloalkynes is highly regioselective producing 2-halomethylketones as the sole products. Herein, we document a drastic fluorine effect where the reaction of 1-halo-3,3-difluoroalkynes as substrates leads to a complete reversal of selectivity and produces 3,3-difluoroesters as the unique products.

Abstract
A new and efficient strategy for enynes cyclization catalyzed by triflic acid has been described. Various valuable carbocycle-fused and heterocycle-fused ketones were easily accessed by the formation of new C-C and C-O bond under benign reaction conditions. This protocol also provides another opportunity to construct polycyclic single-nitrogen ketones via a cation-induced cascade cyclization of polyenynes. Furthermore, antiviral bioassays revealed that a few compounds exhibited good antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus at a concentration of 200 μg mL-1.

Abstract
Metal-catalyzed reactions have revolutionized synthetic chemistry, allowing access to unprecedented molecular architectures with powerful properties and activities. Nonetheless, some transformations remain sparse in number, or out of reach, even with the diverse modern catalytic chemical arsenal, including bimolecular alkene hydroarylation reactions. We report here a broad-scope, palladium-catalyzed pyrroline hydroarylation process that gives 3-aryl pyrrolidines, a class of small molecules with potency in a diverse range of biological scenarios. Thus, whereas N-acyl pyrrolines usually undergo palladium-catalyzed arylation to give alkene products, the corresponding reactions of N-alkyl pyrrolines deliver products of hydroarylation, pyrrolidines. The process has broad substrate scope and can be used to directly deliver drug-like molecules in a single step from readily available precursors. Pyrrolines undergo hydroarylation in palladium-catalyzed processes The process allows facile catalytic entry to molecules with potent biological activity The reaction has broad scope in arylating agents Enables efficient manufacture of drug-like molecules from readily available precursors

Abstract
The gold-catalyzed intermolecular hydroalkylation of olefins with β-ketoesters represents a conceptually attractive and useful synthetic tool; however, it has been scarcely applied, remaining a challenge for chemists. The aim of the current study was to investigate the addition of these 1,3-diketo-compounds to alkenes under gold catalysis conditions, in order to establish the electronic and steric effects of the alkenyl substrates in the reaction outcome. The screening of different catalyst systems and diverse olefins enabled defining the alkenyl requirements and the best reaction conditions to efficiently achieve the coupled products.

Abstract
Gold(i) complexes based on a 2,4,6-triarylphosphinine and a mesoionic carbene derivative have been prepared and characterized crystallographically. Although structurally related, both heterocycles differ significantly in their donor/acceptor properties. These opposed electronic characteristics have been exploited in Au(i)-catalyzed cycloisomerization reactions. For the conversion of the standard substrate dimethyl 2-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-2-(prop-2-ynyl)malonate the results obtained for both Au-catalysts were found to be very similar and comparable to the ones reported in the literature for other carbene- or phosphorus(iii)-based Au(i)-complexes. In contrast, a clear difference between the catalytic systems was found for the cycloisomerization of the more challenging substrate N-2-propyn-1-ylbenzamide. A combination of the phosphinine-based complex and [AgSbF6] or [Cu(OTf)2] leads to a catalytic species, which is more active than the mesoionic carbene-based coordination compound. We attribute these differences to the stronger π-accepting ability of phosphinines in comparison to mesoionic carbenes. The here presented results show for the first time that phosphinines can be used efficiently as π-accepting ligands in Au(i)-catalyzed cycloisomerization reactions.

Abstract
A gold(III) complex of an N-heterocyclic carbene based hemilabile ligand with two pendant pyrazole arms (1,3-bis((1H-pyrazol-3-yl)methyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazole, LH) was synthesized. Complex [LAu(III)Cl3] is an excellent catalyst for promoting dihydroalkoxylation at room temperature, even catalyzing this reaction at 0 °C. [LAu(III)Cl3] is one of the most efficient catalysts reported to date for the spirocyclization of alkynyl diols. Furthermore, [LAu(III)Cl3] catalyzed intra- and intermolecular hydroamination reactions, achieving good to excellent conversions. [LAu(III)Cl3] is a more efficient catalyst than a gold(I) analogue, [LAu(I)Cl]. The dependence of the quantity of weakly coordinating anion [BArF4]- ((3,5-trifluoromethyl)phenyl borate) present on catalysis efficiency was probed for the dihydroalkoxylation reaction. X-ray diffraction analysis of single crystals demonstrated the solid-state structure of gold complexes [LAu(III)Cl3] and [LAu(I)Cl], which displayed the expected square-planar and linear coordination geometries, respectively.

Abstract
Site- and regiocontrolled Au-catalyzed allene carbocyclizations furnish highly substituted cyclopentenes in >1:1 dr. Significant substitution on the substrate is tolerated, with potential to install five contiguous stereocenters after alkene functionalization. Major challenges include identifying a Au/Cu catalyst that controls both the relative rates of allene epimerization/cyclization and the facial selectivity in addition of a metal enolate to the allene. Experiments to achieve stereodivergent cyclizations and transform key cyclopentenes into useful synthetic building blocks are described.

Abstract
Two new cationic dinuclear gold(I) complexes, [Au2 {μ(P,N)-5}2 ]X2 -in which X=NTf2 (7; Tf=trifluoromethanesulfonate) or SbF6 (8) and 2-(diphenylphosphanyl)benzonitrile (5) is a P,N-bridging donor-have been synthesized and structurally characterized. These air-stable species and their dimeric and polymeric analogues possessing 1'-(diphenylphosphanyl)-1-cyanoferrocene (1) as the bridging ligand, [Au2 {μ(P,N)-1}2 ](NTf2 )2 and [Au{μ(P,N)-1}]n [SbF6 ]n , were used as precatalysts in various Au-mediated C-C and C-O bond-forming reactions. The reactivity of these complexes revealed the hemilabile nature of their P,N ligands. In the series of tested precatalysts, complex 8 exerted particularly high catalytic activity at low Au loading, even in reactions that usually require high amounts of gold catalyst to proceed efficiently under standard reaction conditions.

Abstract
With the objective of identifying new coordination modes of ambiphilic ligands, we have investigated the bidentate Sb/P ligands (o-(Ph2 P)C6 H4 )SbCl2 (LCl ) and (o-(Ph2 P)C6 H4 )SbPh2 (LPh ). Reaction of these ligands with (tht)AuCl affords the monoligated species LCl AuCl (1) and LPh AuCl (2), respectively, in which the antimony centers are only weakly engaged with the coordinated gold atom. Treatment of 1 with PPh3 induces an intramolecular transfer of a chloride ligand from gold to antimony to form the zwitterionic species o-(Cl3 Sb)C6 H4 (Ph2 P)Au(PPh3 ) (3). Natural bond orbital (NBO) calculations show that the antimony and gold centers are involved in weak Sb→Au and Au→Sb interactions, the latter reflecting the Lewis acidity of the pendent antimony group. Finally, we demonstrate that the ability of the antimony center in 1 to abstract a gold-bound chloride in the presence of a Lewis basic substrate may be utilized to activate the gold center for the electrophilic cycloisomerization of propargylic amides.

Abstract
A series of novel 1,2,3-triazolylidene gold(i) chloride complexes have been synthesised and fully characterised. Silver-free methodologies for chloride ion abstraction of these complexes were evaluated for their potential as Au-based catalyst precursors. Using simple potassium salts or MeOTf as chloride scavengers produced metal complexes that catalyse both the regioselective synthesis of oxazolines and the C-H activation of benzene or styrene for carbene transfer from ethyl diazoacetate. These results indicate that Ag-free activation of 1,2,3-triazolylidene gold(i) chloride complexes is feasible for the generation of catalytically active Au triazolylidene species. However, silver-mediated activation imparts substantially higher catalytic activity in oxazoline synthesis.

Abstract
Coordination of Mes2PC(=CHPh)AltBu2 to metal chlorides has been studied. Bridging P→M-Cl→Al coordinations were observed with Rh and Pd fragments, while chloride abstraction systematically occurred with gold. The resulting zwitterionic complexes have been fully characterized and analyzed by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Since its initial inception, the Conia-ene reaction, known as the intramolecular addition of enols to alkynes or alkenes, has experienced a tremendous development and appealing catalytic protocols have emerged. This review fathoms the underlying mechanistic principles rationalizing how substrate design, substrate activation, and the nature of the catalyst work hand in hand for the efficient synthesis of carbocycles and heterocycles at mild reaction conditions. Nowadays, Conia-ene reactions can be found as part of tandem reactions, and the road for asymmetric versions has already been paved. Based on their broad applicability, Conia-ene reactions have turned into a highly appreciated synthetic tool with impressive examples in natural product synthesis reported in recent years.
