Abstract
The aryl O-carbamate (ArOAm) group is among the strongest of the directed metalation groups (DMGs) in directed ortho metalation (DoM) chemistry, especially in the form Ar-OCONEt2. Since the last comprehensive review of metalation chemistry involving ArOAms (published more than 30 years ago), the field has expanded significantly. For example, it now encompasses new substrates, solvent systems, and metalating agents, while conditions have been developed enabling metalation of ArOAm to be conducted in a green and sustainable manner. The ArOAm group has also proven to be effective in the anionic ortho-Fries (AoF) rearrangement, Directed remote metalation (DreM), iterative DoM sequences, and DoM-halogen dance (HalD) synthetic strategies and has been transformed into a diverse range of functionalities and coupled with various groups through a range of cross-coupling (CC) strategies. Of ultimate value, the ArOAm group has demonstrated utility in the synthesis of a diverse range of bioactive and polycyclic aromatic compounds for various applications.

Abstract
In this manuscript, a photoinduced ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) approach, employing transition-metal-based photocatalysts, for the efficient alkylation of electron-poor olefin is described. The developed redox-neutral process benefits from mild reaction conditions and involves a wide range of chromone-3-carboxylic acids as well as nucleophiles amenable to selective C-H functionalization leading to the formation of 2-substituted chroman-4-one compounds with potential biological activity.

Abstract
AbstractCarbonylation, one of the most powerful approaches to the preparation of carbonylated compounds, has received significant attention from researchers active in various fields. Indeed, impressive progress has been made on this subject over the past few decades. Among the various types of carbonylation reactions, asymmetric carbonylation is a straightforward methodology for constructing chiral compounds. Although rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective hydroformylations have been discussed in several elegant reviews, a general review on palladium-catalyzed asymmetric carbonylations is still missing. In this review, we summarize and discuss recent achievements in palladium-catalyzed asymmetric carbonylation reactions. Notably, this review’s contents are categorized by reaction type.

Abstract
The first and enantioselective total synthesis of the heterodimeric biaryl antifungal natural product parnafungin A1 as well as complex biaryl tetrahydroxanthone 10a-epi-hirtusneanine is accomplished, by employing cross-coupling through the benzoxaborole strategy to construct their sterically hindered biaryl cores. Besides the powerful Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, the synthesis of parnafungin A1 also features a highly diastereoselective oxa-Michael addition to construct a tetrahydroxanthone skeleton, and an effective Zn-mediated reductive cyclization-Mitsunobu sequence to furnish the isoxazolidinone structure. Key innovations in total synthesis of 10a-epi-hirtusneanine include the employment of DTBS protection for functional group manipulation on the tetrahydroxanthone skeleton, stereoselective methylations, and complete reversal of the stereochemistry of the C5-hydroxy group using oxidation/Evans-Saksena reduction, as well as the strategy of preparing both complex tetrahydroxanthone monomers from the same chiral intermediate 25.

Abstract
A novel PdII -catalyzed enantioselective oxycarbonylation of alkenes has been established. The ligand with an ethyl group at the C-6 position of Pyox plays a significant role in the intermolecular oxypalladation process, leading to high reactivity and excellent enantioselective control. Compared to the conventional methods, the reaction itself features alkenes as easily prepared starting materials, mild and operationally simple reaction conditions, and insensitivities to air and water. Moreover, this method allows for broad alkene substrate scope, excellent regio- and enantioselectivities, scalabilities and a wide array of applications, and provides a useful route for the convenient and straightforward synthesis of chiral β-hydroxy alkylcarboxylic acids/esters.

Abstract
The first synthesis of the chromanone lactone dimer gonytolide A has been achieved employing vanadium(V)-mediated oxidative coupling of the monomer gonytolide C. An o-bromine blocking group strategy was employed to favor para- para coupling and to enable kinetic resolution of (±)-gonytolide C. Asymmetric conjugate reduction enabled practical kinetic resolution of a chiral, racemic precursor and the asymmetric synthesis of (+)-gonytolide A and its atropisomer.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed 4-fold domino reaction consisting of two carbopalladation reactions and two C-H activation reactions, followed by the introduction of an acrylate moiety, led to the tetra-substituted helical alkene A2, using the dialkyne A3 as a substrate. The alkene was copolymerized with butyl acrylate by using the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) to give the desired polymeric switch A1.

Abstract
Cofactor-mimetic aerobic oxidation has conceptually merged with catalysis of syngas reactions to form a wide range of Markovnikov-selective olefin radical hydrofunctionalizations. We cover the development of the field and review contributions to reaction invention, mechanism, and application to complex molecule synthesis. We also provide a mechanistic framework for understanding this compendium of radical reactions.

Abstract
Gonytolide A (1), a dimeric chromanone substituted with the γ-lactone, shows promoting activity of innate immune responses. However, biological studies on this compound have been limited by the low amounts of 1 available from natural resources and the difficulty of its synthesis. In this study, we designed and synthesized structure-simplified gonytolide derivatives. Bischromone 10 and biflavone 13 both promoted the mammalian TNF-α signaling pathway and Drosophila innate immunity. They did not contain a chiral center and were easy to synthesize. Hence, they can be used as lead compounds for a new type of immunostimulating drugs and as research reagents.

Abstract
The 2,4'- and 4,4'-linked variants of the cytotoxic agent secalonic acid A and their analogues have been synthesized. Kinetic resolution of an unprotected tetrahydroxanthone scaffold followed by copper-mediated biaryl coupling allowed for efficient access to these compounds. Evaluation of the "shapeshifting" properties of 2,2'-, 2,4'-, and 4,4'-linked variants of the secalonic acids A in a polar solvent in conjunction with assays of the compounds against select cancer cell lines was conducted to study possible correlations between linkage variation and cytotoxicity.

Abstract
Chiral, dimeric natural products containing complex structures and interesting biological properties have inspired chemists and biologists for decades. A seven step total synthesis of the axially chiral, dimeric tetrahydroxanthone natural product rugulotrosin A is described. The synthesis employs a one-pot Suzuki coupling/dimerization to generate the requisite 2,2'-linked biaryl linkage. Highly selective point-to-axial chirality transfer was achieved using palladium catalysis with achiral phosphine ligands. Single X-ray crystal diffraction data was obtained to confirm both the atropisomeric configuration and absolute stereochemistry of rugulotrosin A. Computational studies are described to rationalize the atropselectivity observed in the key dimerization step. Comparison of the crude fungal extract with synthetic rugulotros in A and its atropisomer verified that nature generates a single atropisomer of the natural product.

Abstract
The title compound packs with a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture via O—H⋯O, C—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and through C—H⋯π interactions. The title compound, C40H22Cl2O4, was formed by a Michael–Aldol domino reaction sequence, which coupled acenaphthenequinone with 4-chloroacetophenone in the presence of KOH in methanol. The dihedral angles between the central cyclopenta[a]acenaphthylene fused-ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.066 Å) and the 4-chlorobenzoyl rings are 62.25 (10) and 70.19 (10)°. The dihedral angle between the central ring system and the naphthoic acid grouping is 62.46 (7)°. This twisting of the pendant rings facilitates the formation of an intramolecular aromatic π–π stacking interaction between the 4-chlorobenzoyl and naphthoic acid rings, with centroid–centroid distances of 3.4533 (16) and 3.5311 (16) Å, and a C—H⋯π interaction between one of the H atoms of the central moiety and the 4-chlorobenzoyl ring with an H⋯π distance of 2.57 Å. In the crystal, carboxylic acid inversion dimers generate R22(8) loops. The dimers are linked by weak C—H⋯O and C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and C—H⋯π interactions, generating a three-dimensional architecture.
