Abstract
The synthesis and base pairing properties of platinum complexes based on uridine and deoxyuridine nucleosides and preliminary studies of their antiproliferative activity are described. Platinum(II) uridine and deoxyuridine complexes were synthesized by C-I oxidative addition to Pt(0)(PPh3)4. First, the synthesis was performed with protected nucleosides to generate complexes 1 and 2, which were deprotected under basic conditions, affording complexes 3 and 4 in good yields. The synthesis with the unprotected nucleosides was also performed and provided complexes 3 and 4 effectively. Base pairing interactions were measured for complex 1, either for self-base pairing or for the Watson-Crick base pair. Complex 1 undergoes self-base pairing in CDCl3, and this aggregation was found not to be dependent on metalation. Contrastingly, for the Watson-Crick base pair with adenine, base pairing was also observed, but metalation was found to affect hydrogen bonding considerably. Complexes 3 and 4 and the corresponding ligand precursors were evaluated for their antiproliferative activity against human glioblastoma cell line U-251. The compounds showed IC50 values of 3.30 (3) and 1.84 (4) μM but are also toxic for nontumorous cell lines.

Abstract
Donor-flexible ligands are an emerging class of noninnocent ligands. Their ability to adapt their donating strength toward a metal center has had numerous catalytic advantages yet has never been utilized to stabilize and isolate intermediate complexes within these processes. We demonstrate through the use of a pincer ligand containing two donor-flexible pyridylidene amide (PYA) arms in coordination with platinum(II) that this ligand adaptability revealed remarkably stable hydride and formate complexes. These are typically fleeting catalytic intermediates within formic acid dehydrogenation and CO2 hydrogenation catalytic cycles. The PYA platinum hydride complexes are indefinitely stable in air, while formate complexes show no sign of β-hydrogen elimination. This robustness allowed us to investigate hydride protonation as a seemingly simple reaction, though in-depth kinetic analysis reveals a pre-equilibrium step prior to platinum hydride protonation. This initial step has been attributed to adduct formation and is slower than the protonation, and therefore a relevant aspect when designing catalytic cycles for hydrogen release and its microscopic reverse, viz., hydrogen uptake.

Abstract
Pt(II) alkylidene 1a has been reacted with terminal alkynes to afford ylide complexes 3a-d, resulting from electrophilic activation of the CC bond and its insertion into the platinacyclic fragment of 1a that contains the carbene functionality. DFT calculations indicate that the observed regioselectivity is determined by the nucleophilic attack of the alkyne to the alkylidene carbon.

Abstract
Catalytic carbene-transfer reactions constitute a class of highly useful transformations in organic synthesis. Although catalysts based on a range of transition-metals have been reported, the readily accessible nickel(II)-based complexes have been rarely used. Herein, an air-stable nickel(II)-carborane complex is reported as a well-defined, versatile and recyclable catalyst for selective carbene transfer reactions with low catalyst loading under mild conditions. This catalyst is effective for several types of reactions including diastereoselective cyclopropanation, epoxidation, selective X-H insertions (X = C, N, O, S, Si), particularly for the unprotected substrates. This represents a rare example of carborane ligands in base metal catalysis.

Abstract
The mechanism studies of transition-metal-catalyzed reductive coupling reactions
investigated using Density Functional Theory calculations in the recent ten years have been
reviewed. This review introduces the computational mechanism studies of Ni-, Pd-, Cu- and
some other metals (Rh, Ti and Zr)-catalyzed reductive coupling reactions and presents the
methodology used in these computational mechanism studies. The mechanisms of the transition-
metal-catalyzed reductive coupling reactions normally include three main steps: oxidative
addition; transmetalation; and reductive elimination or four main steps: the first oxidative
addition; reduction; the second oxidative addition; and reductive elimination. The ratelimiting
step is most likely the final reductive elimination step in the whole mechanism.
Currently, the B3LYP method used in DFT calculations is the most popular choice in the structural geometry
optimizations and the M06 method is often used to carry out single-point calculations to refine the energy values.
We hope that this review will stimulate more and more experimental and computational combinations and the
computational chemistry will significantly contribute to the development of future organic synthesis reactions.

Abstract
A series of 2-aminobiphenyl palladacycles supported by dialkylterphenyl phosphines, PR2 Ar' (R=Me, Et, iPr, Cyp (cyclopentyl), Ar'=ArDipp2 , ArXyl2f , Dipp (2,6-C6H3-(2,6-C6H3-(CHMe2)2)2), Xyl=xylyl) have been prepared and structurally characterized. Neutral palladacycles were obtained with less bulky terphenyl phosphines (i.e., Me and Et substituents) whereas the largest phosphines provided cationic palladacycles in which the phosphines adopted a bidentate hemilabile k1 -P,η1 -Carene coordination mode. The influence of the ligand structure on the catalytic performance of these Pd precatalysts was evaluated in aryl amination reactions. Cationic complexes bearing the phosphines PiPr2 ArXyl2 and PCyp2 ArXyl2 were the most active of the series. These precatalysts have demonstrated a high versatility and efficiency in the coupling of a variety of nitrogen nucleophiles, including secondary amines, alkyl amines, anilines, and indoles, with electronically deactivated and ortho-substituted aryl chlorides at low catalyst loadings (0.25-0.75 mol % Pd) and without excess ligand.

Abstract
Isolable cationic PtII and PtIV alkylidenes, proposed intermediates in catalytic organic transformations, are reported. The bonding in these species was probed by experimental, structural, spectroscopic, electrochemical and computational methods, providing direct evidence for π-bonding, the often-theorized relativistic stabilization of these species, and the influence of oxidation state.

Abstract
Adaptive ligands, which can adapt their coordination mode to the electronic structure of various catalytic intermediates, offer the potential to develop improved homogeneous catalysts in terms of activity and selectivity. 2,2'-Diphosphinobenzophenones have previously been shown to act as adaptive ligands, the central ketone moiety preferentially coordinating reduced metal centers. Herein, the utility of this scaffold in nickel-catalyzed alkyne cyclotrimerization is investigated. The complex [( p-tolL1)Ni(BPI)] ( p-tolL1 = 2,2'-bis(di(para-tolyl)phosphino)-benzophenone; BPI = benzophenone imine) is an active catalyst in the [2 + 2 + 2] cyclotrimerization of terminal alkynes, selectively affording 1,2,4-substituted benzenes from terminal alkynes. In particular, this catalyst outperforms closely related bi- and tridentate phosphine-based Ni catalysts. This suggests a reaction pathway involving a hemilabile interaction of the C=O unit with the nickel center. This is further borne out by a comparative study of the observed resting states and DFT calculations.

Abstract
![]()
Ligands
that can adapt their coordination mode to the electronic properties
of a metal center are of interest to support catalysis or small molecule
activation processes. In this context, the ability of imine moieties
to bind in either an η1(N)-fashion via σ-donation
of the lone pair or, less commonly, in an η2(C,N)-fashion
via π-coordination is potentially attractive for the design
of new metal–ligand cooperative systems. Herein, the coordination
chemistry of chelating ligands with a diphosphine imine framework
(PCNP) to nickel is investigated. The imine moiety binds in an η1(N)-fashion in a Ni(II)Cl2 complex. The uncommon
η2(C,N)-interaction is obtained in Ni(0) complexes
in the presence of a PPh3 coligand. Increasing the bulk
on the phosphine side-arms in the Ni(0) complexes, by substituting
phenyl for o-tolyl groups, leads to a distinct binding
mode in which only one of the phosphorus atoms is coordinated. In
the absence of a coligand, a mixture of two different dimeric Ni(0)
complexes is formed. In one of them, the imine adopts an uncommon
η1(N)η2(C,N) bridging mode of the
ligand to nickel, while the second one may involve reactivity on the
ligand by the formation of a new C–C bond by oxidative coupling.
The latter is supported by the isolation and structural characterization
of a crystalline bis-CO derivative featuring a C–C bond formed
by oxidative coupling of two imine moieties. The coordination chemistry
of a series of diphosphine-imine ligands (PCNP) to Ni is investigated,
with the purpose of developing systems that present metal−ligand
cooperativity. The ligands bind in versatile ways, adapting to the
oxidation state and coordination environment of the metal center.
Additionally, a dimeric derivative undergoes oxidative C−C
coupling in the presence of CO, resulting in an unusual mixed valence
Ni(II)/Ni(0) dinuclear complex.

Abstract
ion of chloride from [W(CO)5{PPhCl2}] with AgOSO2CF3 leads to the phosphine triflate complex [W(CO)5{PPhCl(OSO2CF3)}] which undergoes electrophilic substitution reactions with N,N-diethylaniline, anisole, N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine, toluene, biphenyl, naphthalene, 2,7,9,9-tetramethyl xanthene, and allyltrimethylsilane to form the chlorophosphine complexes [W(CO)5{PPhClR}], where R = p-diethylanilinyl, p-anisyl, 2-(N,N-dimethyl-4-methylphenyl), p-tolyl, p-phenylphenyl, 1-naphthyl, 4-(2,7,9,9-tetramethylxanthyl), and allyl. Abstraction of the second chloride with AgOSO2CF3 leads, in most cases, to the respective phosphine triflates [W(CO)5{PPhR(OSO2CF3)}], which react with ferrocene to form the ferrocenyl phosphine complexes [W(CO)5{PPhR(C10H9Fe)}]. The W(CO)5 unit can be removed via photolysis in the presence of bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane to form metal-free phosphines.

Abstract
The oxidation of three different complexes of the doubly cycloplatinated 2,6-di(4-fluorophenyl)pyridine ligand (namely DMSO, PPh3 and PPr3 derivatives, 1a, 1b and 1c, respectively) with the electrophilic oxidant iodobenzenedichloride was studied. In each case oxidation can yield a simple trans-dichloro platinum(iv) complex (2(t)), which subsequently isomerises to the cis isomer (2(c)). However, by changing the solvent, or performing the reaction in the presence of an additional ligating species, a five-coordinate intermediate can be trapped out and isolated. Thus, cationic species with additional DMSO or pyridine coordinated could be collected for the DMSO and PPh3 derivatives. The PPr3 derivative traps out the reactive five-coordinate species with an agostic interaction that subsequently induces a transcyclometallation reaction to give a complex with a singly cyclometallated pyridine and a cyclometallated phosphine, which was characterised crystallographically, (6c

Abstract
Oxidation of zero-valent phosphine complexes [M(P(t) Bu3 )2 ] (M=Pd, Pt) has been investigated in 1,2-difluorobenzene solution using cyclic voltammetry and subsequently using the ferrocenium cation as a chemical redox agent. In the case of palladium, a mononuclear paramagnetic Pd(I) derivative was readily isolated from solution and fully characterized (EPR, X-ray crystallography). While in situ electrochemical measurements are consistent with initial one-electron oxidation, the heavier congener undergoes C-H bond cyclometalation and ultimately affords the 14 valence-electron Pt(II) complex [Pt(κ(2) PC -P(t) Bu2 CMe2 CH2 )(P(t) Bu3 )](+) with concomitant formation of [Pt(P(t) Bu3 )2 H](+) .

Abstract
Reactions of the gold(I) triflimide complex [Au(NTf2 )(PMe2 Ar${{^{{\rm Dipp}{_{2}}}}}$)] (1) with the gold(I) hydrocarbyl species [AuR(PMe2 Ar${{^{{\rm Dipp}{_{2}}}}}$)] (2 a-2 c) enable the isolation of hydrocarbyl-bridged cationic digold complexes with the general composition [Au2 (μ-R)(PMe2 Ar${{^{{\rm Dipp}{_{2}}}}}$)2 ][NTf2 ], where Ar${{^{{\rm Dipp}{_{2}}}}}$=C6 H3 -2,6-(C6 H3 -2,6-iPr2 )2 and R=Me (3), CHCH2 (4), or CCH (5). Compound 3 is the first alkyl-bridged digold complex to be reported and features a symmetric [Au(μ-CH3 )Au](+) core. Complexes 4 and 5 are the first species of their kind that contain simple, unsubstituted vinyl and acetylide units, respectively. In the series of complexes 3-5, the bridging carbon atom systematically changes its hybridization from sp(3) to sp(2) and sp. Concomitant with this change, and owing to variations in the nature of the bonding within the [Au(μ-R)Au](+) unit, there is a gradual decrease in aurophilicity, that is, the strength of the Au⋅⋅⋅Au bonding interaction decreases. This change is illustrated by a monotonic increase in the Au-Au distance by approximately 0.3 Å from R=CH3 (2.71 Å) to CHCH2 (3.07 Å) and CCH (3.31 Å).
