Abstract
Primary amine products have been prepared using zirconium-catalyzed hydroaminoalkylation of alkenes with N-silylated benzylamine substrates. Catalysis using commercially available Zr(NMe2)4 affords an alternative disconnection to access α-arylated primary amines upon aqueous workup. Substrate-dependent regio- and diastereoselectivity of the reaction is observed. Bulky substituents on the terminal alkene exclusively generate the linear regioisomer. This atom-economic catalytic strategy for the synthesis of building blocks that can undergo further synthetic elaboration is highlighted in the preparation of trifluoroethylated α-arylated amines.

Abstract
We present a highly regio- and chemoselective Csp3-H arylation of benzylamines mediated by synergy of single electron transfer (SET) and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) catalysis. Under well precedented SET catalysis alone, the arylation reaction of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine proceeded via aminium radical cation formation and selectively targeted the N-methyl group. In contrast, addition of PhC(O)SH as a HAT catalyst precursor completely switched the regioselectivity to Csp3-H arylation at the N-benzylic position. Measurement of oxidation potentials indicated that the conjugate base of PhC(O)SH is oxidized in preference to the substrate amine. The discovery of the thiocarboxylate as a novel HAT catalyst allowed for the selective generation of the sulfur-centered radical, so that the N-benzyl selectivity was achieved by overriding the inherent N-methyl and/or N-methylene selectivity under SET catalysis conditions. While visible light-driven α-C-H functionalization of amines has mostly been demonstrated with aniline derivatives and tetrahydroisoquinolines (THIQs), our method is applicable to a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary benzylamines for efficient N-benzylic C-H arylation. Functional group tolerance was high, and various 1,1-diarylmethylamines, including an α,α,α-trisubstituted amine, were obtained in good to excellent yield (up to 98%). Importantly, the reaction is applicable to late-stage functionalization of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract
The direct arylation of weakly acidic sp3-hybridized C-H bonds via deprotonated cross-coupling processes (DCCP) is a challenge. Herein, a Pd(NIXANTPHOS)-based catalyst for the mono arylation of 4-pyridylmethyl 2-aryl ethers to generate diarylated 4-pyridyl methyl ethers is introduced. Furthermore, under similar conditions, the diarylation of 4-pyridylmethyl ethers with aryl bromides has been developed. These methods enable the synthesis of new pyridine derivatives, which are common in medicinally active compounds and in application in materials science.

Abstract
Isoindolinones comprise an important class of medicinally active compounds. Herein we report a straightforward functionalization of the isoindolinones with aryl bromides (22 examples) using a Pd(OAc)2/NIXANTPHOS-based catalyst system. Additionally 3-aryl 3-hydroxy isoindolinone derivatives, which exhibit anti-tumor activity, can be accessed via a tandem reaction. Thus, when the arylation product is exposed to air under basic conditions, in situ oxidation takes place to install the 3-hydroxyl group. Furthermore, a tandem arylation/allylic substitution reaction is advanced in which both the arylation and allylic substitution are catalyzed by the same palladium catalyst. Finally, a tandem arylation/alkylation procedure is presented. These tandem reactions enable the synthesis of a variety of structurally diverse isoindolinone derivatives from common starting materials.

Abstract
A Palladium-catalyzed α-arylation of sulfonamides with aryl chlorides is presented. A Buchwald type precatalyst formed with Kwong's indole-based ligand enabled this transformation to be compatible with a large variety of methyl sulfonamides and aryl chlorides in good to excellent yields. Importantly, under the optimized reaction conditions, only mono-arylated products were observed. This method has been applied to the efficient synthesis of sumatriptan, which is used to treat migraines.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed direct arylation of pyridylmethyl silyl ethers with aryl bromides is described. A Pd(OAc)2/NIXANTPHOS-based catalyst provides aryl(pyridyl)methyl alcohol derivatives in good to excellent yields (33 examples, 57-100% yield). This protocol is compatible with different silyl ether protecting groups, affording either the protected or the free alcohols in an effective one-pot process. The scalability of the reaction is demonstrated.

Abstract
A direct C-H functionalization approach to produce aryl(azaaryl)methylamines from azaarylmethylamines without directing groups is described. Under conditions where the azaarylmethylamines' C-H is reversibly deprotonated, a Pd(OAc)(2)/NIXANTPHOS-based catalyst couples the resulting carbanions with various aryl halides to provide aryl(azaaryl)methylamines. This umpolung strategy directly provides tertiary amines without protecting or activating groups.
