Abstract
A stereo- and regioselective Mn(I)-catalyzed hydroboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane (HBPin) is described. The hydroboration reaction is highly Z-selective in the case of aryl alkynes and E-selective in the case of aliphatic alkynes. The reaction requires no additives or solvents and proceeds with a catalyst loading of 1 mol % at 50-70 °C. The most active precatalyst is the bench-stable alkyl Mn(I) complex cis-[Mn(PCP-iPr)(CO)2(CH2CH2CH3)]. The catalytic process is initiated by the migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the Mn-alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate. This species undergoes C-H and B-H bond cleavage of the alkyne (aromatic alkynes) and HBPin (in the case of aliphatic alkynes) forming the active Mn(I) alkynyl and boryl catalysts [Mn(PCP-iPr)(CO)(C≡CR)] and [Mn(PCP-iPr)(CO)(BPin)], respectively. A broad variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkynes was efficiently and selectively borylated. Mechanistic insights are provided based on experimental data and DFT calculations. The functionalized alkenes can be used for further applications in cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
Herein, we designed and synthesized a series of air-stable, cost-effective, and readily synthesizable iron(III) salen complexes (Fe-1 and Fe-2) for facilitating the selective hydroboration of ketones and unactivated imines with pinacolborane in the absence of any additive. These catalyst systems exhibited good yields, chemoselectivity, high atom economy, and a broad substrate scope under mild reaction conditions with a minimal catalyst loading of 0.2 mol %. The catalytic efficiency of Fe-1 has been demonstrated through the hydroboration of diverse aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic ketones and imines with a turnover number of up to 1000, highlighting its broad substrate scope. Ketones are chemoselectively hydroborated over other functional groups such as imines, alkenes, esters, nitriles, acids, and alcohols. Besides, the synthetic utility of this strategy has also been showcased by the construction of a natural chiral monoterpenoid carveol. This protocol can be readily scaled up for gram-scale synthesis of alcohols, which underscores the potential industrial applicability of our catalyst system in the synthesis of secondary alcohols on a larger scale.

Abstract
Developing simple and benign protocols for synthesizing alkenylboronates is crucial as they are synthetically valuable compounds in various organic transformations. In this work, we report a straightforward ligand-free protocol for synthesizing alkenylboronates via atom-economical hydroboration of alkynes with HBpin catalyzed by a manganese salt. The reaction shows a high level of chemo and regioselectivity for the terminal alkynes and exclusively produces E-selective alkenylboronates. The hydroboration scope is vast, with the resilience of a range of synthetically beneficial functionalities, such as halides, ether, alkenyl, silyl and thiophenyl groups. This reaction proceeds through the involvement of a metal-hydride intermediate. The developed alkenylboronate can be smoothly converted to useful C-C, C-N and C-I bond-forming reactions.

Abstract
We report the activation and functionalization of Si-N bonds with pinacol borane catalyzed by a three-coordinate iron(II) β-diketiminate complex. The reactions proceed via the mild activation of silazanes to yield useful hydrosilanes and aminoboranes. The reaction is studied by kinetic analysis, along with a detailed investigation of decomposition pathways using catecholborane as an analogue of the pinacol borane used in catalysis. We have extended the methodology to develop a polycarbosilazane depolymerization strategy, which generates hydrosilane quantitatively along with complete conversion to the Bpin-protected diamine. The analogous Si-O bond cleavage can also be achieved with heating, using silyl ether starting materials to generate hydrosilane and alkoxyborane products. Depolymerization of poly(silyl ether)s using our strategy successfully converts the polymer to 90% Bpin-protected alcohols.

Abstract
Herein, a simple and efficient strategy that involves dual 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)/iron-catalyzed alkene perfluoroalkylvinylation by using perfluoroalkyl iodides and 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones as coupling partners is demonstrated. In terms of the developed catalytic system, various styrenes and aliphatic alkenes are well-tolerated, leading to the accurate preparation of perfluoroalkyl-containing 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones in excellent regioselectivity. Moreover, the protocol can be readily applied in late-stage modifications of natural products and pharmaceuticals. The title reactions are featured by easily accessible and inexpensive catalysts and substrates, broad substrate applicability, and mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic investigations reveal a tandem C-I cleavable alkylation and C-C vinylation enabled by cooperative DBU/iron catalysis.

Abstract
The chemo- and stereoselective semi-hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes is a fundamental transformation in synthetic chemistry, for which the use of precious 4d or 5d metal catalysts is well-established. In mankind's unwavering quest for sustainability, research focus has considerably veered towards the 3d metals. Given their high abundancy and availability as well as lower toxicity and noxiousness, they are undoubtedly attractive from both an economic and an environmental perspective. Herein, we wish to present noteworthy and groundbreaking examples for the use of 3d metal catalysts for diastereoselective alkyne semi-hydrogenation as we embark on a journey through the first-row transition metals.

Abstract
Iron-hydride and iron-boryl complexes supported by a pyrrole-based pincer ligand, tBuPNP (PNP = anion of 2,5-bis(di-tert-butylphosphinomethyl)pyrrole), were employed for a detailed mechanistic study on the hydroboration of internal alkynes. Several novel complexes were isolated and fully characterized, including iron-vinyl and iron-boryl species, which represent likely intermediates in the catalytic hydroboration pathway. In addition, the products of alkyne insertion into the Fe-B bond have been isolated and structurally characterized. Mechanistic studies of the hydroboration reaction favor a pathway involving an active iron-hydride species, [FeH(tBuPNP)], which readily inserts alkyne and undergoes subsequent reaction with hydroborane to generate product. The iron-boryl species, [Fe(BR2)(tBuPNP)] (R2 = pin or cat), was found to be chemically competent, although its use in catalysis entailed an induction period whereby the iron-hydride species was generated. Stoichiometric reactions and kinetic experiments were performed to paint a fuller picture of the mechanism of alkyne hydroboration, including pathways for catalyst deactivation and the influence of substrate bulk on catalytic efficacy.

Abstract
Organoboron reagents represent a unique class of compounds because of their utility in modern synthetic organic chemistry, often affording unprecedented reactivity. The transformation of the carbon-boron bond into a carbon-X (X = C, N, and O) bond in a stereocontrolled fashion has become invaluable in medicinal chemistry, agrochemistry, and natural products chemistry as well as materials science. Over the past decade, first-row d-block transition metals have become increasingly widely used as catalysts for the formation of a carbon-boron bond, a transformation traditionally catalyzed by expensive precious metals. This recent focus on alternative transition metals has enabled growth in fundamental methods in organoboron chemistry. This review surveys the current state-of-the-art in the use of first-row d-block element-based catalysts for the formation of carbon-boron bonds.

Abstract
A MnI‐catalyzed hydroboration of terminal alkenes and a 1,2‐diboration of terminal alkynes with pinacolborane (HBPin) is described. For alkenes, anti‐Markovnikov hydroboration takes place; for alkynes the reaction proceeds with excellent trans‐1,2‐selectivity. The most active pre‐catalyst is bench‐stable alkyl bisphosphine MnI complex fac‐[Mn(dippe)(CO)3(CH2CH2CH3)]. The catalytic process is initiated by migratory insertion of a CO ligand into the Mn–alkyl bond to yield an acyl intermediate, which undergoes B−H bond cleavage of HBPin (for alkenes) and rapid C−H bond cleavage (for alkynes), forming the active MnI boryl and acetylide catalysts [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(BPin)] and [Mn(dippe)(CO)2(C≡CR)], respectively. A broad variety of aromatic and aliphatic alkenes and alkynes was efficiently and selectively borylated. Mechanistic insights are provided based on experimental data and DFT calculations revealing that an acceptorless reaction is operating involving dihydrogen release.

Abstract
Herein, we report an iron(II)-catalyzed polymerization of arylallenes. This reaction proceeds rapidly at room temperature in the presence of a hydride co-catalyst to generate polymers of weight up to Mn =189 000 Da. We have determined the polymer structure and chain length for a range of monomers through a combination of NMR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis. Mechanistically, we postulate that the co-catalyst does not react to form an iron(II) hydride in situ, but instead the chain growth is proceeding via a reactive Fe(III) species. We have also performed kinetic and isotopic experiments to further our understanding. The formation of a highly unusual 1,3-substituted cyclobutane side-product is also investigated.

Abstract
Homogeneous earth-abundant metal catalysis based on well-defined molecular complexes has achieved great advance in synthetic methodologies. However, sophisticated ligand, hazardous activator and multistep synthesis starting from base metal salts are generally required for the generation of active molecular catalysts, which may hinder their broad application in large scale organic synthesis. Therefore, the development of metal cluster catalysts formed in situ from simple earth-abundant metal salts is of importance for the practical utilization of base metal resource, yet it is still in its infancy. Herein, a mixture of catalytic amounts of cobalt (II) iodide and potassium tert-butoxide is discovered to be highly active for selective hydroboration of vinylarenes and dihydroboration of nitriles, affording a good yield of diversified hydroboration products that without isolation can readily undergo further one pot transformations. It should be highlighted that the alkoxide-pinacolborane combination acts as an efficient activation strategy to activate cobalt (II) iodide for the generation of metastable heterotopic cobalt catalysts in situ, which is proposed to be catalytically active species. Homogeneous earth-abundant metal catalysis based on well-defined metal complexes is of interest for organic synthesis, but typically employs expensive catalysts, air sensitive or synthetically challenging chemicals. Here, the authors report an efficient and regio-selective catalytic system for hydroboration of vinylarenes and organic nitriles with HBPin, using commercially available CoI2 and KOtBu under ligand-free conditions.

Abstract
Iron-catalyzed isomerization of alkenes is reported using an iron(II) β-diketiminate pre-catalyst. The reaction proceeds with a catalytic amount of a hydride source, such as pinacol borane (HBpin) or ammonia borane (H3 N⋅BH3 ). Reactivity with both allyl arenes and aliphatic alkenes has been studied. The catalytic mechanism was investigated by a variety of means, including deuteration studies, Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The data obtained support a pre-catalyst activation step that gives access to an η2 -coordinated alkene FeI complex, followed by oxidative addition of the alkene to give an FeIII intermediate, which then undergoes reductive elimination to allow release of the isomerization product.

Abstract
In the past decade, the use of earth-abundant metals in homogeneous catalysis has flourished. In particular, metals such as cobalt and iron have been used extensively in reductive transformations including hydrogenation, hydroboration, and hydrosilylation. Manganese, on the other hand, has been considerably less explored in these reductive transformations. Here, we report a well-defined manganese complex, [Mn(iPrBDI)(OTf)2] (2a; BDI = bipyridinediimine), that is an active precatalyst in the hydroboration of a variety of electronically differentiated alkenes (>20 examples). The hydroboration is specifically selective for terminal alkenes and occurs with exclusive anti-Markovnikov selectivity. In contrast, when using the analogous cobalt complex [Co(iPrBDI)(OTf)2] (3a), internal alkenes are hydroborated efficiently, where a sequence of isomerization steps ultimately leads to their hydroboration. The contrasting terminal versus internal alkene selectivity for manganese and cobalt was investigated computationally and is further discussed in the herein-reported study.

Abstract
We report the first series of homoleptic phosphido iron complexes synthesized by treating either the β-diketiminato complex [(Dippnacnac)FeCl2Li(dme)2] (Dippnacnac = HC[(CMe)N(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)]2) or [FeBr2(thf)2] with an excess of phosphides R2PLi (R = tBu, tBuPh, Cy, iPr). Reaction outcomes depend strongly on the bulkiness of the phosphido ligands. The use of tBu2PLi precursor led to an anionic diiron complex 1 encompassing a planar Fe2P2 core with two bridging and two terminal phosphido ligands. An analogous reaction employing less sterically demanding phosphides, tBuPhPLi and Cy2PLi yielded diiron anionic complexes 2 and 3, respectively, featuring a short Fe-Fe interaction supported by three bridging phosphido groups and one additional terminal R2P- ligand at each iron center. Further tuning of the P-substrates bulkiness gave a neutral phosphido complex 4 possessing a tetrahedral Fe4 cluster core held together by six bridging iPr2P moieties. Moreover, we also describe the first homoleptic phosphanylphosphido iron complex 5, which features an iron center with low coordination provided by three tBu2P-P(SiMe3)- ligands. The structures of compounds 1-5 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and 1-3 by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Moreover, the electronic structures of 1-3 were interrogated using zero-field Mössbauer spectroscopy and DFT methods.

Abstract
The stereoselective preparation of synthetically versatile vinylboronates from ω-alkenylboronates is achieved through a ruthenium-catalyzed isomerization reaction. A variety of di- and trisubstituted vinylboronates were conveniently produced and could be used as a new starting point for subsequent in situ remote functionalization through either a sequential Ru/Pd or Ru/Cu double catalytic system. A regio- and stereoselective ruthenium-catalyzed isomerization of ω-alkenyl boronates into stereodefined di- and trisubstituted alkenylboronate derivatives is reported.![]()

Abstract
A simple procedure has been optimized for the preparation of alkenylaminoborane from alkynes using diisopropylaminoborane and HZrCp2Cl. Coupled with a magnesium-catalyzed dehydrogenation, it allowed for the use of air- and moisture-stable diisopropylamine. This synthesis has been extended to a one-pot sequence leading directly to bromoalkenes with controlled stereochemistry. As such, it provides an easy, scalable, cheap process to access alkenylboronates and both (E)- and (Z)-bromoalkenes from commercially available alkynes.

Abstract
We report herein the catalytic triboration of terminal alkynes with B2 pin2 (bis(pinacolato)diboron) using readily available Cu(OAc)2 and Pn Bu3 . Various 1,1,2-triborylalkenes, a class of compounds that have been demonstrated to be potential matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2) inhibitors, were obtained directly in moderate to good yields. The process features mild reaction conditions, a broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance. This copper-catalyzed reaction can be conducted on a gram scale to produce the corresponding 1,1,2-triborylalkenes in modest yields. The utility of these products was demonstrated by further transformations of the C-B bonds to prepare gem-dihaloborylalkenes (F, Cl, Br), monohaloborylalkenes (Cl, Br), and trans-diaryldiborylalkenes, which serve as important synthons and have previously been challenging to prepare.

Abstract
Base metal catalysis offers an alternative to reactions, which were once dominated by precious metals in hydrofunctionalization reactions. This review article details the development of some base metals (Fe, Co, and Ni) in the hydroboration and hydrosilylation reactions concomitant with a brief overview of recent advances in the field. Applications of both commercially available metal salts and well-defined metal complexes in catalysis and opportunities to further advance the field is discussed as well.

Abstract
An air-stable N-heterocyclic carbene-copper thiophene-2-carboxylate (CuTC) complex has been prepared for the stereoselective hydroboration of terminal alkynes using pinacolborane (HBpin) or 1,8-naphthalenediaminatoborane (HBdan). The newly synthesized complex can be directly activated by hydroboranes without a cocatalyst such as a base, and exhibits high reactivity for the hydroboration of alkynes under mild conditions. A gram-scale hydroboration of terminal phenylacetylene demonstrated the applicability of the copper complex for the preparation of alkenyl boronates.

Abstract
Catalytic hydroboration of alkenes is a well-established method to access borane-functionalized hydrocarbons. While linear-selective hydroboration was predominantly reported, catalysts enabling opposite selectivity (branched-selective) are attracting considerable interest, especially when Earth-abundant metals are utilized. This Synopsis summarizes recent progress in Earth-abundant-metal-catalyzed, branched-selective hydroboration of alkenes while overviewing the historical contributions to this reaction using precious metals. Lessons learned from the current state of this topic that can guide future catalyst design are presented, along with challenging issues that remain to be addressed.

Abstract
An iron catalyst has been developed for the transfer hydrogenation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds. Using a well-defined β-diketiminate iron(II) precatalyst, a sacrificial amine and a borane, even simple, unactivated alkenes such as 1-hexene undergo hydrogenation within 1 h at room temperature. Tuning the reagent stoichiometry allows for semi- and complete hydrogenation of terminal alkynes. It is also possible to hydrogenate aminoalkenes and aminoalkynes without poisoning the catalyst through competitive amine ligation. Furthermore, by exploiting the separate protic and hydridic nature of the reagents, it is possible to regioselectively prepare monoisotopically labeled products. DFT calculations define a mechanism for the transfer hydrogenation of propene with nBuNH2 and HBpin that involves the initial formation of an iron(II)-hydride active species, 1,2-insertion of propene, and rate-limiting protonolysis of the resultant alkyl by the amine N-H bond. This mechanism is fully consistent with the selective deuteration studies, although the calculations also highlight alkene hydroboration and amine-borane dehydrocoupling as competitive processes. This was resolved by reassessing the nature of the active transfer hydrogenation agent: experimentally, a gel is observed in catalysis, and calculations suggest this can be formulated as an oligomeric species comprising H-bonded amine-borane adducts. Gel formation serves to reduce the effective concentrations of free HBpin and nBuNH2 and so disfavors both hydroboration and dehydrocoupling while allowing alkene migratory insertion (and hence transfer hydrogenation) to dominate.

Abstract
An operationally convenient and general method for hydroboration of alkenes, aldehydes, and ketones employing Co(acac)3 as a precatalyst is reported. The hydroboration of alkenes in the presence of HBpin, PPh3, and NaO tBu affords good to excellent yields with high Markovnikov selectivity with up to 97:3 branched/linear selectivity. Moreover, Co(acac)3 could be used effectively to hydroborate aldehydes and ketones in the absence of additives under mild reaction conditions. Inter- and intramolecular chemoselective reduction of the aldehyde group took place over the ketone functional group.
