Abstract
The reactivity of 5,10-disubstituted dibenzoazaborines and dibenzophosphaborines towards carbon dioxide was studied at the DFT, M06-2X/def2-TZVP, computational level. The profile of this reaction comprises of three stationary points: the pre-reactive complex and adduct minima and the transition state(TS) linking both minima. Initial results show that dibenzoazaborines derivatives are less suitable to form adducts with CO2 than dibenzophosphaborine systems. The influence of the basicity on the P atom and the acidity on the B center of the dibenzophosphaborine in the reaction with CO2 was also explored. Thus, an equation was developed relating the properties (acidity, basicity and boron hybridization) of the isolated dibenzophosphaborine derivatives with the adduct energy. We found that modulation of the boron acidity allows to obtain more stable adducts than the pre-reactive complexes and isolated monomers.

Abstract
Exchange of boryl moieties between alkenylboranes and diboron reagents has been postulated as a stereospecific cross-metathesis pathway with concomitant formation of mixed diboron reagents. DFT calculations propose a mechanism for the stereocontrolled C(sp2)-B/B'-B' cross-metathesis with both symmetric and non-symmetric diboron reagents.

Abstract
Any attempt to facilitate a new generation of C-B bonds represents a useful tool in organic synthesis. In addition, if that approach highlights the nucleophilic character of boryl moieties in the absence of transition metal complexes, the challenge to create new reactive platforms becomes an opportunity. We have been deeply involved in the experimental and theoretical validation of C-B bond formation by means of alkoxide activation of tetra-alkoxy diboron reagents and here is presented a convenient guide to understand the concept and the applications.

Abstract
Rapidly mapping a reaction energy profile to understand the reaction mechanism is of great importance and highly desired for the discovery of new chemical reactions. Herein, a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations and regression analysis has been applied to construct quantitative structures-based energy prediction models, considering Pd(II)-catalyzed ethylene polymerization as an example, for rapid construction of the reaction energy profile. It is inspiring that only geometrical parameters of the reaction center of one species are capable of predicting the whole energy profile with high accuracy. The reaction energies of ethylene insertion and β-H elimination, which directly correlate with polymerization activity and the possibility of branch formation, were studied to elucidate the electronic effects of ancillary ligands. Further analyses of these models from the statistical and chemical points of view afforded useful information on the design of the catalyst ligand. The current work is expected to methodologically shed new light on rapidly mapping the energy profile of chemical reactions and further provide useful information for the development of the reactions.

Abstract
The chemistry of stabilized α-boryl carbanions shows remarkable diversity, and can enable many different synthetic routes towards efficient C-C bond formation. The electron-deficient, trivalent boron center stabilizes the carbanion facilitating its generation and tuning its reactivity. Here, the electronic structure and the reactivity trends of a large dataset of α-boryl carbanions are described. DFT-derived parameters were used to capture their electronic and steric properties, computational reactivity towards model substrates, and crystallographic analysis within the Cambridge Structural Dataset. This study maps the reactivity space by systematically varying the nature of the boryl moiety, the substituents of the carbanionic center, the number of α-boryl motifs, and the metal counterion. In general, the free carbanionic intermediates are described as borata-alkene species with C-B π interactions polarized towards the carbon. Furthermore, it was possible to classify the α-boryl alkylidene metal precursors into three classes directly related to their reactivity: 1) nucleophilic borata-alkene salts with alkali and alkaline earth metals, 2) nucleophilic η2 -(C-B) borata-alkene complexes with early transition metals, Cu and Ag, and 3) α-boryl alkyl complexes with late transition metals. This trend map aids selection of the appropriate reactive synthon depending on the reactivity sought.

Abstract
A first quantitative model for calculating the nucleophilicity of alkanes is described. A statistical treatment was applied to the analysis of the reactivity of 29 different alkane C-H bonds towards in situ generated metal carbene electrophiles. The correlation of the recently reported experimental reactivity with two different sets of descriptors comprising a total of 86 parameters was studied, resulting in the quantitative descriptor-based alkane nucleophilicity (QDEAN) model. This model consists of an equation with only six structural/topological descriptors, and reproduces the relative reactivity of the alkane C-H bonds. This reactivity can be calculated from parameters emerging from the schematic drawing of the alkane and a simple set of sums.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the historical employment of boron-containing compounds (BCCs) with medicinal purposes, the reported cases of BCC toxicity in humans during the twentieth century were driving us towards an "boron-withdrawal" period. Fortunately, the use of boric acid for specific purposes remains, and the discovery of natural BCCs with biological action attractive for therapeutic purposes as well as the introduction of some new BCCs for clinical use have reactivated the interest in studying the properties of these BCCs. METHODS We carried out a structured search of bibliographic databases for scientific peer-reviewed research literature regarding boron toxicity and linked that information to that about BCCs in drug design and development. A deductive qualitative content analysis methodology was applied to analyse the interventions and findings of the included studies using a theoretical outline. RESULTS This review recapitulates the following on a timeline: the boron uses in medicine, the data known about the toxicological profiles of some BCCs, the pharmacological properties of some BCCs that are employed in cancer and infectious disease therapies, and the known properties of BCCs recently introduced into clinical assays as well as the identification of their structure-activity relationships for toxicity and therapeutic use. Then, we discuss the use of new approaches taking advantage of some toxicological data to identify potent and efficient BCCs for prevention and therapy while limiting their toxic effects. CONCLUSION Data for boron toxicity can be strategically used for boron-containing drug design.

Abstract
It has been reported that RuH2(η2-H2)2(PCy3)2 (1) could mediate CO2 reduction by pinacolborane (HBpin), affording pinBOBpin (7), pinBOCH3 (8), pinBOCHO (9), pinBOCH2OBpin (10), and an unprecedented C2 species pinBOCH2OCHO (11), which meanwhile is converted to the Ru complexes, including the transient 3 (RuH(κ2-O2CH)(CO)(PCy3)2) and 5 (RuH{(μ-H)2Bpin}(CO)(PCy3)2), and the persistent 4 (RuH(κ2-O2CH)(CO)2(PCy3)2) and 6 (RuH2(CO)2(PCy3)2). To gain an insight into the catalysis, a DFT study was carried out. The study identified the key active catalyst to be the hydride 13 (RuH2(CO)(PCy3)2) and characterized the mechanisms leading to the experimentally observed species (3-11). By investigating the experimental system, we learned a new mechanism called σ-π coupling for CO2 decarbonylation. Under this mechanism, CO2 and HBpin first co-coordinate to the Ru center of 13, then σ-π coupling takes place, forming a B-O bond between CO2 and HBpin, Ru-H and Ru-C bonds, and simultaneously breaking the H-Bpin bond, followed by -OBpin group migration to the Ru center, completing the CO2 decarbonylation. An interesting feature regarding the Ru catalysis was the involvement of η1-Hη1-H → η2-H2 and η1-Hη1-Bpin → η2-HBpin reductions, which facilitated the oxidative H-Bpin addition or the coordination mode change of CO2 from η1-O to η2-CO for CO2 activation or σ-π coupling. The facilitation effects could be attributed to the reductions enhancing the electron donations from the Ru center to the antibonding orbitals of the activating bonds.

Abstract
The reaction of pinB-BMes2 (pin = pinacolato, Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2) with Xyl-NC (Xyl = 2,6-Me2C6H3) and pyridine results in the formation of a pyridine-coordinated boraalkene that exhibits an intense color caused by an intramolecular charge-transfer interaction. In the presence of an excess of pyridine, the ortho C-H bond of pyridine was selectively functionalized to afford a quinoid compound or an isocyanide-coupled product. Based on the concentration effect, the reaction stoichiometry, and previously reported DFT calculations, a reaction mechanism that involves several rearrangement reactions was proposed. Using the present method, substituted pyridines and N-heterocycles afforded the corresponding functionalized derivatives. A subsequent hydrolysis of one of the resulting products furnished an aminomethylated pyridine derivative in two steps from parent pyridine.
