Abstract
The development of efficient biomass valorization is imperative for the future sustainable production of chemicals and fuels. Particularly, the last decade has witnessed the development of a plethora of effective and selective transformations of bio-based furanics using homogeneous organometallic catalysis under mild conditions. In this review, we describe some of the advances regarding the conversion of target furanics into value chemicals, monomers for high-performance polymers and materials, and pharmaceutical key intermediates using homogeneous catalysis. Finally, the incorporation of furanic skeletons into complex chemical architectures by multifunctionalization routes is also described.

Abstract
In this study, a commercially available homogeneous pincer-type complex, Ru-Macho, was directly heterogenized via the Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction using dichloromethane as the cross-linker to obtain a heterogeneous, pincer-type Ru porous organometallic polymer (Ru-Macho-POMP) with a high surface area. Notably, Ru-Macho-POMP was demonstrated to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the chemoselective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to their corresponding allylic alcohols using cinnamaldehyde as a model compound. The Ru-Macho-POMP catalyst showed a high turnover frequency (TOF = 920 h-1) and a high turnover number (TON = 2750), with high chemoselectivity (99%) and recyclability during the selective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.

Abstract
We report the first example of employing homogeneous organometal-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation for the selective reductive amination of furfurals to furfurylamines. An efficient, chemoselective, and base-free method is described using Ru-MACHO-BH as catalyst and iPrOH as H donor. The method tolerates a range of substituents affording moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
The reduction of ketones through homogeneous transfer hydrogenation catalyzed by transition metals is one of the most important routes for obtaining alcohols from carbonyl compounds. The interest of this method increases when opportune catalytic precursors are able to perform the transformation in an asymmetric fashion, generating enantiomerically enriched chiral alcohols. This reaction has been extensively studied in terms of catalysts and variety of substrates. A large amount of information about the possible mechanisms is available nowadays, which has been of high importance for the development of systems with excellent outcomes in terms of conversion, enantioselectivity and Turn Over Frequency. On the other side, many mechanistic aspects are still unclear, especially for those catalytic precursors which have shown only moderate performances in transfer hydeogenation. This is the case of neutral [RuCl2(η6-arene)(P)] and cationic [Rh(PP)2]X (X = anion; P and PP = mono- and bidentate phosphine, respectively) complexes. Herein, a summary of the known information about the Transfer Hydrogenation catalyzed by these complexes is provided with a continuous focus on the more relevant mechanistic features.

Abstract
Herein, we report on the use of the iron pincer complex Iron-MACHO-BH, in the base-free transfer hydrogenation of esters with EtOH as a hydrogen source. More than 20 substrates including aromatic and aliphatic esters and lactones were reduced affording the desired primary alcohols and diols with moderate to excellent isolated yields. It is also possible to reduce polyesters to the diols with this method, enabling a novel way of plastic recycling. Reduction of the renewable substrate methyl levulinate proceeds to form 1,4-pentanediol directly. The yields are largely governed by the equilibrium between the alcohol and the ethyl ester.
