Abstract
The first chrorobismuthate(III) supramolecular hybrids with halogen-bond-linked I2, (Py(CH2)2Py){[BiCl5](I2)} (1) and (Py(CH2)3Py){[BiCl5](I2)0.5} (2), were synthesized via the reaction between Bi2O3, I2, and salts of the corresponding cations in HCl. The compounds featured one- and two-dimensional (2D) supramolecular motifs built by I···Cl contacts; in the case of 1, Bi(III) is pentacoordinated due to the lone pair activity, which also interacted with I2 pi-orbitals, as confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Both complexes exhibited moderate thermal stabilities and relatively narrow optical band gaps.

Abstract
The halogen bonding in molecular crystals and supramolecular assemblies has been widely investigated. Special attention is given to the molecular structures capable of simultaneously exhibiting different types of non-covalent interactions, including conventional hydrogen bonds and halogen bonds. This paper systematically analyzes crystalline peroxosolvates of bispidine-based bis-amide derivatives, containing haloacetic acid residues, namely previously reported 1,1'-(1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-diyl)bis(2-iodooethanone) peroxosolvate C13H20I2N2O2·H2O2 (1) and four new crystalline compounds, 1,1'-(1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-diyl)bis(2-bromoethanone) peroxosolvate C13H20Br2N2O2·H2O2 (2), 1,1'-(9-hydroperoxy-9-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-diyl)bis(2-iodoethanone) peroxosolvate C13H20I2N2O5·0.5H2O2 (3), 1,1'-(9-hydroperoxy-9-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-diyl)bis(2-bromoethanone) peroxosolvate C13H20Br2N2O5·H2O2 (4), and 1,1'-(9-hydroperoxy-9-hydroxy-1,5-dimethyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-diyl)bis(2-chloroethanone) peroxosolvate C13H20Cl2N2O5·H2O2 (5). Compounds 2-5 were synthesized for the first time and their crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffractometry (SCXRD). To the best of our knowledge, 3-5 are unprecedented crystalline hydrogen peroxide adducts of organic hydroperoxides (R-OOH). Short intermolecular contacts between halogen and hydroperoxo oxygen atoms were found in 1-3. The halogen bonding of C-I(Br) fragments with dioxygen species in compounds 1-3 as well as in the previously reported cocrystal of diacetone diperoxide with triodotrinitrobenzene (6) was identified through reduced density gradient analysis, Hirshfeld surface analysis, and Bader analysis of crystalline electron density. The interactions were quantified using the electron density topological properties acquired from the periodic DFT calculations and evaluated to lie in the range of 9-19 kJ mol-1. A distinctive spectral feature was revealed for this type of interaction, involving a red shift of the characteristic O-O stretching vibration by about 6 cm-1, which appeared in IR spectra as a narrow low-intensity band in the region 837-872 cm-1.

Abstract
Three supramolecular bromostannates(IV) with "trapped" diiodine molecules, Cat2{[SnBr6](I2)} (Cat = Me4N+ (1), 1-MePy+ (2) and 4-MePyH (3)), were synthesized. In all cases, I2 linkers are connected with bromide ligands via halogen···halogen non-covalent interactions. Articles 1-3 were studied using Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The latter indicates that 1-3 are narrow band gap semiconductors.

Abstract
The calcium carbonate (CaCO3) scale is one of the most common oilfield scales and oil and gas production bane. CaCO3 scale can lead to a sudden halt in production or, worst-case scenario, accidents; therefore, CaCO3 scale formation prevention is essential for the oil and gas industry. Scale inhibitors are chemicals that can mitigate this problem. We used two popular theoretical techniques in this study: Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics (AIMD). The objective was to investigate the inhibitory abilities of mixed oligomers, specifically acrylamide functionalized silica (AM-Silica). DFT studies indicate that Ca2+ does not bind readily to acryl acid and acrylamide; however, it has a good binding affinity with PAM and Silica functionalized PAM. The highest binding affinity occurs in the silica region and not the -CONH functional groups. AIMD calculations corroborate the DFT studies, as observed from the MD trajectory that Ca2+ binds to PAM-Silica by forming bonds with silicon; however, Ca2+ initially forms a bond with silicon in the presence of water molecules. This bonding does not last long, and it subsequently bonds with the oxygen atoms present in the water molecule. PAM-Silica is a suitable calcium scale inhibitor because of its high binding affinity with Ca2+. Theoretical studies (DFT and AIMD) have provided atomic insights on how AM-Silica could be used as an efficient scale inhibitor.

Abstract
Graphene is one of the most promising two-dimensional nanomaterials with broad applications in many fields. However, the variations and fluctuations in the material and geometrical properties are challenging issues that require more concern. In order to quantify uncertainty and analyze the impacts of uncertainty, a stochastic finite element model (SFEM) is proposed to propagate uncertainty for carbon atomic interactions under resonant vibration. Compared with the conventional truss or beam finite element models, both carbon atoms and carbon covalent bonds are considered by introducing plane elements. In addition, the determined values of the material and geometrical parameters are expanded into the related interval ranges with uniform probability density distributions. Based on the SFEM, the uncertainty propagation is performed by the Monte Carlo stochastic sampling process, and the resonant frequencies of graphene are provided by finite element computation. Furthermore, the correlation coefficients of characteristic parameters are computed based on the database of SFEM. The vibration modes of graphene with the extreme geometrical values are also provided and analyzed. According to the computed results, the minimum and maximum values of the first resonant frequency are 0.2131 and 16.894 THz, respectively, and the variance is 2.5899 THz. The proposed SFEM is an effective method to propagate uncertainty and analyze the impacts of uncertainty in the carbon atomic interactions of graphene. The work in this paper provides an important supplement to the atomic interaction modeling in nanomaterials.

Abstract
The color-change sapphire occurs in sillimanite-biotite gneiss in Fuping County Hebei province, China, is one of most famous sapphire deposits in China. However, the color genesis, mechanisms of color changing and compositional characteristics of the sapphire remain enigmatic. In this contribution, the coloration in the Fuping sapphire, color changing mechanisms and, compositional characteristics were studied by conventional gemological instruments in conjunction with ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. The results show that the Fuping sapphire is characterized by purple-blue-to-purple-red changed effect and column-shaped, waist drum-shaped with higher degree of euhedral crystal. Reddish brown rutile inclusions with 120° crossed cleavage are commonly observed. The dominant coloring element of the Fuping sapphire is Fe3+, and subordinate elements are Fe2+, Cr3+ and V3+. The color-change effect is caused by trace elements Cr3+ and V3+. The chemical compositions of Fuping color-change sapphires are analogous to those of metamorphic blue sapphires. When geochemically compared with sapphires from Isalo/Ilakaka deposit in Madagascar, Ratnapura deposit in Sri Lanka and Mogok in Myanmar, the Fuping color-change sapphires have distinctly higher rare element contents of Fe, Cr and Ga.

Abstract
Chalcogenodiazoles have been intensively studied in recent years in the context of their supramolecular chemistry. In contrast, the newly discovered cationic 1,2,4-selenodiazole supramolecular building blocks, which can be obtained via coupling between 2-pyridylselenyl halides and nitriles, are virtually unexplored. A significant advantage of the latter is their facile structural tunability via the variation of nitriles, which could allow a fine tuning of their self-assembly in the solid state. Here, we explore the influence of the substituent (which derives from the nitrile) and counterions on the supramolecular assembly of cationic 1,2,4-selenodiazoles via chalcogen bonding.

Abstract
The synthesis of 2-pyridyltellurenyl bromide via Br2 oxidative cleavage of the Te–Te bond of dipyridylditelluride is reported. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of 2-pyridyltellurenyl bromide demonstrated that the Te atom of 2-pyridyltellurenyl bromide was involved in four different noncovalent contacts: Te⋯Te interactions, two Te⋯Br ChB, and one Te⋯N ChB contact forming 3D supramolecular symmetrical framework. In contrast to 2-pyridylselenenyl halides, the Te congener does not react with nitriles furnishing cyclization products. 2-Pyridylselenenyl chloride was demonstrated to easily form the corresponding adduct with benzonitrile. The cyclization product was studied by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, which revealed that in contrast to earlier studied cationic 1,2,4-selenadiazoles, here we observed that the adduct with benzonitrile formed supramolecular dimers via Se⋯Se interactions in the solid state, which were never observed before for 1,2,4-selenadiazoles.

Abstract
Iodonium ylides have recently attracted much attention on account of their synthetic applications. However, only a limited number of reports concerning the properties and reactivity of iodonium ylides exist, which is partly due to their instability. In this study, we synthesized several iodonium ylides that bear both an electron-withdrawing group and an aromatic ring with an ortho-t-BuSO2 group. Based on the crystal structures of the synthesized iodonium ylides in combination with natural-bond-orbital (NBO) calculations, we estimated the strength of the intra- and intermolecular halogen-bonding interactions. In addition, we investigated the reactivity of the iodonium ylides under photoirradiation.

Abstract
Utilizing facile one-electron oxidation of 10H-phenothiazine by molecular diiodine, the solid-state structure of the 10H-phenothiazinium radical cation was obtained in three cation:iodide ratios, as well as its THF and acetone solvates. Oxidation of 10H-phenothiazine with molecular diiodine in DMSO or DMF provided the structure of the radical coupling product 10-(3-phenothiazinyldene)phenothiazinium, which has not been crystallographically characterized to date. The radical cations were balanced by a mixture (I7 )- , (I5 )- , (I3 )- , and I- anions, where a variety of chalcogen, halogen, and hydrogen bonding interactions stabilize the structures to reveal these interesting cationic species.

Abstract
Weakly or "partially" bonded molecules are an important link between the chemical and van der Waals interactions. Molecular structures of six new SbBr3 -Py complexes in the solid state have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In all complexes all Sb atoms adopt a pseudo-octahedral coordination geometry which is completed by additional Sb⋅⋅⋅Br contacts shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii, with Br-Sb⋅⋅⋅Br angles close to 180°. To reveal the nature of Sb-Br and Sb-N interactions, the DFT calculations were performed followed by the analysis of the electrostatic potentials, the orbital interactions and the topological analysis. Based on Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis, the Sb-Br interactions range from the covalent bonds to the pnictogen bonds. A simple structural parameter, non-covalence criterion (NCC) is defined as a ratio of the atom-atom distance to the linear combination of sums of covalent and van der Waals radii. NCC correlates with E(2) values for Sb-N, Sb-Cl and Sb-Br bonds, and appears to be useful criterion for a preliminary evaluation of the bonding situation.

Abstract
Abstract
A synthesis of the trans-dibromogold(III) t-Bu-Xantphos complex and its self-assembly into infinite 1-dimensional chain in the solid state is reported. The new complex characterized using elemental analyses (C, H, N), ESI-MS, 1H and 13C NMR techniques and X-ray diffraction analysis. Results of DFT calculations followed by the topological analysis of the electron density distribution within the framework of QTAIM method at the ωB97XD/DZP-DKH level of theory reveal that strength of attractive intermolecular non-covalent interactions Br···Br in the crystal is 1.2–1.6 kcal/mol.

Abstract
4-Bromobenzamidrazone reacts with cyclopentanone giving 3-(4-bromophenyl)-5-(4-peroxobutyl)-1,2,4-triazole, which precipitated as pale-yellow crystals during the reaction. The intermolecular noncovalent interactions Br···Br in the single-crystal XRD structure of the peroxo compound were studied theoretically using quantum chemical calculations (ωB97XD/x2c-TZVPPall) and quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) analysis. These attractive intermolecular noncovalent interactions Br···Br is type I halogen···halogen contacts and their estimated energy is 2.2–2.5 kcal/mol. These weak interactions are suggested to be one of the driving forces (albeit surely not the main one) for crystallization of the peroxo compound during the reaction and thus its stabilization in the solid state.

Abstract
Reactions of BiI3, I2, and iodide salts of two different pyridinum cations result in the formation of the novel iodine-rich iodobismuthates(III) (1,3-MePy)4{[Bi4I16](I2)} (1) and (1-MePy){[BiI4](I2)0.5) (2), where the halometalate anions are connected by diiodine linkers into one- or two-dimensional supramolecular structures. Both complexes reveal narrow optical band gaps and fairly high thermal stability, favoring their potential use in photovoltaic devices.

Abstract
Stabilization of specific crystal polymorphs of an active pharmaceutical ingredient is crucial for preventing uncontrollable interconversion of various crystalline forms, which affects physicochemical properties as well as physiological activity. Co-crystallization with various excipients is an emerging productive way of achieving such stabilization in the solid state. In this work, we identified an opportunity for co-crystallization of antiviral drug nevirapine (NVP) with a classical XB donor, 1,2,4,5-tetrafluoro-3,6-diiodobenzene (1,4-FIB), as well as 1,3-diiodobenzene (1,3-DIB), which has been seldom employed as an XB donor to date. In the X-ray structures of NVP·1,4-FIB and NVP·1,3-DIB co-crystals, different hydrogen and halogen bonding modes were detected and further investigated via DFT calculations as well as topological analysis of the electron density distribution within the framework of the QTAIM method at the M06/DZP-DKH level of theory. Estimated energies of these supramolecular contacts vary from 0.6 to 5.7 kcal/mol.

Abstract
More than 20 binary tungsten iodides have been discovered. This was possible due to a new synthesis of W3I12 through halide exchange reaction and by thermal scanning. Depending on the I2 partial pressure compounds can incorporate or release I2. On heating they undergo self-reduction. Some tungsten iodide clusters can be directly transferred into solution.
