Abstract
Over the years, quinone methides have broadly been applied in synthesis and biological systems for synthesizing heterocyclic compounds and biologically active molecules. In this feature article, we have discussed the novel and uncovered reactivity of o-quinone methides, p-quinone methides, aza-o-quinone methides, and indolyl-2-methides with carbenes generated from α-diazocarbonyl compounds and related compounds. Two in situ-generated transient intermediates undergo cycloannulation reactions, metathesis-type reactions, 1,6-conjugate addition reactions, cyclopropanation reactions, and many other transformations to access nitrogen- and oxygen-containing heterocyclic compounds and beyond. The reactivity of quinone methides and carbenes is observed in various metal catalysts, Brønsted-acids, Lewis acids, phase transfer catalysts, additives, and visible-light-induced transformations.

Abstract
Herein, we report a photoinduced dehydrogenation/(3+2) cycloaddition reaction by merging organic photoredox and Lewis acid catalysis, providing a straightforward and efficient approach for directly installing a benzofuran skeleton on the saturated aza-heterocycles. In this protocol, we also describe a novel organic photocatalyst (t-Bu-DCQ) with the advantages of a wider redox potential, easy synthesis, and a low price. Furthermore, the stepwise activation mechanism of dual C(sp3)-H bonds was demonstrated by a series of experimental and computational studies.

Abstract
The incorporation of a coupling step into the reduction of unsaturated systems offers a desirable way for diverse synthesis of functional molecules, but it remains to date a challenge due to the difficulty in controlling the chemoselectivity. Herein, by developing a new heterogeneous iridium catalyst composed of Ir-species (Irδ+) and N-doped SiO2/TiO2 support (Ir/N-SiO2/TiO2), we describe its application in reductive electrophilic mono and dialkylations of quinolines with various 2- or 4-functionalized aryl carbonyls or benzyl alcohols by utilizing renewable formic acid as the reductant. This catalytic transformation offers a practical platform for direct access to a vast range of alkyl THQs, proceeding with excellent step and atom-efficiency, good substrate scope and functional group tolerance, a reusable catalyst and abundantly available feedstocks, and generation of water and carbon dioxide as by-products. The work opens a door to further develop more useful organic transformations under heterogeneous reductive catalysis. By developing a heterogeneous iridium catalyst composed of a N-doped SiO2/TiO2 support and Ir-species (Ir/N-SiO2/TiO2), its application in reductive electrophilic alkylation of quinolines with various aryl carbonyls or benzyl alcohols is presented.![]()

Abstract
Non-proteinogenic amino acids have attracted tremendous interest for their essential applications in the realm of biology and chemistry. Recently, rising C-H functionalization has been considered an alternative powerful method for the direct synthesis of non-proteinogenic amino acids. Meanwhile, photochemistry has become popular for its predominant advantages of mild conditions and conservation of energy. Therefore, C-H functionalization and photochemistry have been merged to synthesize diverse non-proteinogenic amino acids in a mild and environmentally friendly way. In this review, the recent developments in the photo-mediated C-H functionalization of proteinogenic amino acids derivatives for the rapid synthesis of versatile non-proteinogenic amino acids are presented. Moreover, postulated mechanisms are also described wherever needed.

Abstract
The merger of photoredox-initiated enamine-imine tautomerization and nucleophilic addition processes to access β-substituted pyrroles from pyrrolidines has been achieved. The significant advantage of this method is suppressing the Friedel-Crafts reaction, which usually occurs between N-aryl pyrrolidines and the highly electrophilic ketoesters. The good functional group tolerance, high atom economy, and high regioselectivity as well as easy handling conditions make it an appealing alternative to synthesize β-substituted pyrroles.

Abstract
An efficient method was successfully developed to obtain cyclic β-amino ketones via visible-light photoredox catalysis. With this catalytic system, vinyl azides and N-Ph pyrrolidines react to form cyclic β-amino ketones by α-amino radical addition. This method provides a simple, mild, straightforward, and novel paradigm to prepare important β-amino ketones.
