Abstract
Under Cu-catalysis, a regioselective nitration of 1,8-dihalogenated BN-naphthalene (ABN) compounds (4a-4c) has been established with the use of tert-butyl nitrite as the nitrating reagent. The syntheses of dihalo-ABN nitro products (6a-6c; halo = Cl, Br and I) were case-studied in conjunction with the first synthesis and characterization of diiodo-ABN compound 4c. The molecular structures of these compounds have been spectroscopically characterized and further confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction experiments. This method allows direct regioselective nitration of electron-deficient ABN systems, providing a step-economical entry to novel nitro-ABN structural motifs with potential applications in agrochemicals, materials sciences, and the medicinal and pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
The naphthalene ring is distorted due to steric repulsion between iodo groups at the peri-positions. Due to the distortion, 1,8-diiodonaphthalene underwent a halo-Jacobsen rearrangement when treated with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, producing 1,5-diiodonaphthalene and 1,4-diiodonaphthalene. In this reaction, acid-induced dehalogenative homocoupling also proceeded to form 4,4'-diiodo-1,1'-binaphthyl. The reaction selectivity could be controlled by varying the reaction temperature. DFT calculations and some control experiments revealed that these compounds were formed by different pathways.

Abstract
Ruthenium-catalyzed butadiene-mediated benzannulation enabled the first synthesis of 3,10-(di-tert-butyl)rubicene and its N-doped derivatives as well as preliminary studies on their photophysical properties. Unlike the parent rubicene and 3,10-(di-tert-butyl)rubicene, which adopt classical herringbone-type packing motifs in the solid state, the N-doped congener 7 b displayed columnar packing with an alternating co-facial arrangement of aromatic and heteroaromatic substructures.

Abstract
![]()
Iron-
and manganese-catalyzed para-selective oxidative
amination of (4-R)phenols by primary and secondary anilines was developed.
Depending on the identity of the R group, the products of this efficient
reaction are either benzoquinone anils (C–N coupling) that
are produced via a sequential oxidative amination/dehydrogenation
(R = H), oxidative amination/elimination (R = OMe) steps, or N,O-biaryl compounds (C–C coupling)
that are formed when R = alkyl through an oxidative amination/[3,3]-sigmatropic
rearrangement (quinamine rearrangement) process.

Abstract
Dibenzo[cde, opq]rubicene has been synthesized by an eight-step reaction sequence including an iron-mediated [2+2+1] cycloaddition and a flash vacuum pyrolysis as key steps. Two crystal modifications of the S-shaped, planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon have been obtained and characterized by X-ray diffractometry.
