Rhodium(III)‐Catalyzed C−H/N−H Functionalization with Hydrogen Evolution

Bridging the information gap in organic chemical reactions

The varying quality of scientific reports is a well-recognized problem and often results from a lack of standardization and transparency in scientific publications. This situation ultimately leads to prominent complications such as reproducibility issues and the slow uptake of newly developed synthetic methods for pharmaceutical and agrochemical applications. In recent years, various impactful approaches have been advocated to bridge information gaps and to improve the quality of experimental protocols in synthetic organic publications. Here we provide a critical overview of these strategies and present the reader with a versatile set of tools to augment their standard procedures. We formulate eight principles to improve data management in scientific publications relating to data standardization, reproducibility and evaluation, and encourage scientists to go beyond current publication standards. We are aware that this is a substantial effort, but we are convinced that the resulting improved data situation will greatly benefit the progress of chemistry.

Cp*RhIII-Catalyzed Cascade Annulation of Arylimidates with Pyridotriazoles toward Isoquinolin-3-ol Derivatives

A Cp*Rh^III-catalyzed efficient synthesis of isoquinolin-3-ol derivatives bearing a pyridinyl ring using imidate as a directing group under C-H activation strategy with pyridotriazoles as carbene reagents is reported. In this reaction, cascade C-H activation, regioselective cyclization, and elimination occur in one pot. The present methodology featured a good range of functional group tolerance and furnished the target products in moderate-to-excellent yields.

Rhodium-catalysed direct formylmethylation using vinylene carbonate and sequential dehydrogenative esterification

A rhodium-catalysed direct formylmethylation adopting vinylene carbonate as an ethynol equivalent is reported. The developed catalytic system is further utilised for the oxidant-free production of esters with the liberation of hydrogen gas. Some control experiments are conducted to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Redox-Neutral Olefination of Aryldiazenes with Acrylate Esters via C-H Activation and Transfer Hydrogenation

Rh(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral C-H olefination of aryldiazenecarboxylates has been realized using arylate esters as the olefinating reagents. This reaction proceeds under mild and redox-neutral conditions, resulting in integration of C-H activation and transfer hydrogenation. The chemoselectivity complements that of previously reported rhodium-catalyzed coupling of the same substrates.
