“Orthogonal‐Twisted‐Arm” Ligands for The Construction of Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs): New Topology and Catalytic Reactivity

3D nanocrystalline metal-organic framework materials for the improved output performance of triboelectric nanogenerators

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) based on contact electrification and electrostatic induction can effectively convert low-frequency mechanical energy into electrical energy and has attracted considerable attention. However, the low current output performance seriously hinders the wide application of TENGs. Herein, a 3D nanocrystalline metal-organic framework (Cd-MOF) with a specific structure and morphology was reasonably designed as a high-performance triboelectric positive electrode material. The triboelectric test results showed that the maximum instantaneous short-circuit current of Cd-MT was 55.32 μA and the stable output performance maintained a long-term continuous operation for 10 000 s. The peak values of the charge density and electric power density were 102.39 μC m^-2 and 2451.04 mW m^-2, respectively. In addition, the Cd-MT could quickly fully charge commercial capacitors and light a large number of LED lamps. This work provides a new idea for the development and design of functional MOF triboelectric materials.

Synthesis of microporous hydrogen-bonded supramolecular organic frameworks through guanosine self-assembly

Extending the structural hierarchy and complexity through small-molecular self-assembly is a powerful way to obtain large discrete, functional molecular architecture. A hydrogen-bonded supramolecular organic framework (H_SOF) with nanometer-size pores is constructed in a solid state with simple guanosine-monomer self-assembly. To extend the hierarchy of the G-quartet self-assembly to a higher order thanthatofthetraditionalG-quadruplex,H-bondacceptorsontheC-8 position of guanosine are introduced to establish inter-quadruplex linkage via H bonding to N(2)-H_B from the neighboring G-quartet. After screening different C-8 substitution groups and various synthesis conditions, H_SOF-G1a' is obtained by solvent evaporation under diluted condition. Single-crystal X-ray structure reveals that cubic repeating units formed by G₈ are the supermolecule secondary building block (SBU) with large pores (d=34A). To our knowledge, this is the first G-quartet self-assembly with an organized structure beyond cylindrical G-quadruplexes.

Construction of Stable Helical Metal-Organic Frameworks with a Conformationally Rigid "Concave Ligand"

A helical metal-organic framework was prepared by using a conformationally rigid tetratopic benzoic acid ligand with binding units pointing toward each other (concave ligand). To avoid the obvious intramolecular interactions between binding units, matching spacing groups were applied to introduce atropic repulsion, thereby allowing the formation of extended frameworks for the first time. With this new ligand design, a helical-shaped MOF with significantly improved air and moisture stability was successfully prepared, thus providing a new strategy for ligand design toward porous material constructions.

Novel Ba2+ and Pb2+ metal-organic frameworks based on a semi-rigid tetracarboxylic acid: syntheses, structures, topologies and luminescence properties

Multidentate carboxylate ligands have been widely used in the construction of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) owing to the rich variety of their coordination modes, which can lead to crystalline products with interesting structures and properties. Two new main-group MOFs, namely, poly[[di-μ-aqua-diaqua(dimethylformamide)[μ₇-5,5'-methylenebis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato)]dibarium(II)] trihydrate], {[Ba₂(C₂₃H₂₀O₈)(C₃H₇NO)(H₂O)₄]·3H₂O}_n or {[Ba₂(BTMIPA)(DMF)(H₂O)₄]·3H₂O}_n (1), and poly[[diaqua[μ₆-5,5'-methylenebis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato)]dilead(II)] 2.5-hydrate], {[Pb₂(C₂₃H₂₀O₈)(H₂O)₂]·2.5H₂O}_n or {[Pb₂(BTMIPA)(H₂O)₂]·2.5H₂O}_n (2), were prepared by the self-assembly of metal salts with the semi-rigid tetracarboxylic acid ligand 5,5'-methylenebis(2,4,6-trimethylisophthalic acid) (H₄BTMIPA). Both structures were characterized by elemental analysis (EA), single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Complex 1 reveals a three-dimensional (3D) flu network formed via bridging tetranuclear secondary building units (SBUs) and complex 2 displays a 3D framework with an sqp topology based on one-dimensional metal chains. The BTMIPA^4- ligands adopt a rare coordination mode in 2, although the ligands in both 1 and 2 are X-shaped. The luminescence properties of both complexes were investigated in the solid state.
