Abstract
Polyfluoroarenes have been known for a long time, but they are most often used as fluorinated building blocks for the synthesis of aromatic compounds. At the same time, due to peculiar fluorine effect, they have unique properties that provide applications in various fields ranging from synthesis to materials science. This review summarizes advances in the radical chemistry of polyfluoroarenes, which have become possible mainly with the advent of photocatalysis. Transformations of the fluorinated ring via the C-F bond activation, as well as use of fluoroaryl fragments as activating groups and hydrogen atom transfer agents are discussed. The ability of fluoroarenes to serve as catalysts is also considred.

Abstract
An organo-photoredox catalyzed gem-difluoroallylation of glycine with α-trifluoromethyl alkenes via direct C(sp3)-H functionalization of glycine and C-F bond activation of α-trifluoromethyl alkenes has been described. As a consequence, a broad range of gem-difluoroalkene-containing unnatural amino acids are afforded in moderate to excellent yields. This reaction exhibits multiple merits such as readily available starting materials, broad substrate scope, and mild reaction conditions. The feasibility of this reaction has been highlighted by the late-stage modification of several peptides as well as the improved in vitro antifungal activity of compound 3v toward Valsa mali compared to that with commercial azoxystrobin.

Abstract
Phosphonium ylide catalysis through an oxidative quenching cycle has been developed for visible-light-driven C-H imidation of arenes and heteroarenes. The present protocol could be applied not only to trihalomethylative lactonization reactions involving trifluoromethyl, trichloromethyl, and tribromomethyl radicals but also to the first example of an organophotoredox-catalyzed imidative lactonization reaction involving a nitrogen-centered electrophilic radical species.

Abstract
Direct and selective C-H methylation is a powerful tool with which to install methyl groups into organic molecules, and is particularly useful in pharmaceutical chemistry. However, practical methods for such modification of biologically interesting targets have been rarely developed. We here report an iron-catalyzed C(sp3 )-H methylation reaction of glycine derivatives, peptides and drug-like molecules in an alcohol in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide. A readily available iron catalyst plays multiple roles in the transformation, which accelerates oxidation of C-N bonds to C=N double bonds, activates imine intermediates as Lewis acids by bidentate chelation, and at the same time facilitates cleavage of the peroxide to generate methyl radicals. A variety of methylated N-aryl glycine derivatives and peptides were obtained in good yield and with excellent chemo- and site-selectivity. This reaction is scalable, easily managed, and can be completed within 1-2 h. It features an economic, bio-friendly catalyst, a green solvent and low toxic reagents, and will provide effective access to precise C-H modification of biomolecules and natural products.
