Abstract
AIM: To investigate nursing care in neonates with gastrointestinal bleeding administered omeprazole via a gastric tube.
METHODS: Eighty neonates with gastrointestinal bleeding treated from June 2011 to June 2012 were randomly and equally divided into a study group and a control group. The control group received gastric tube insertion, rinsing with saline, and was given vitamin K after improvement, while the study group received gastric tube insertion, rinsing with sodium bicarbonate, and was given omeprazole after improvement. Clinical effects were compared between the two groups.
RESULTS: The effective rate was significantly higher in the study group than in the control group (92.5% vs 62.5%, P < 0.05). The times to vomiting relief, melena disappearance, and occult blood test negativity were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (P < 0.05). No adverse reactions occurred in either group.
CONCLUSION: Omeprazole administration via a gastric tube is feasible in the treatment of neonatal gastrointestinal bleeding, and targeted care can improve efficacy and promote better recovery.
