Abstract
This review provides an overview of twenty years of pioneering work (from 1985 to 2005) of our research group in the preparation and application of enantioselective packing materials for HPLC. After a brief introduction to the rational design of a new chiral stationary phase, a detailed presentation in chronological order of appearance in the literature is given of the currently developed repertoire of chiral stationary phases and their typical applications. Emphasis is placed on the different synthetic strategies exploited to obtain highly efficient, stable, and versatile chiral stationary phases.

Abstract
Two new chiral polymers of different molecular weights were synthesized by the copolymerization of (1R,2R)-(+)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine, phenyl diisocyanate and terephthaloyl chloride. The polymers were immobilized on aminated silica gel to afford two chiral stationary phases. The polymers and the corresponding chiral stationary phases were characterized by Fourier transform-IR, elemental analysis, 1H and 13C NMR. The surface coverages of chiral structural units on the chiral stationary phases were estimated as 0.27 and 0.39 mmol/g, respectively. The enantioseparation ability of these chiral stationary phases was evaluated with a variety of chiral compounds by high-performance liquid chromatography. The effects of the organic additives, the composition of mobile phases, and the injection amount of sample on enantioseparation were investigated. A comparison of enantioseparation ability between these two chiral stationary phases was made. It was believed that the chain length of polymeric chiral selector significantly affected the enantioseparation ability of corresponding chiral stationary phase.

Abstract
Chiral stationary phases (CSPs) based on polymeric (R,R)- or (S,S)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (DACH) derivatives are synthesized. When bonded to 5 microm porous spherical silica gel, the poly (trans-1,2-cyclohexanediyl-bis acrylamide) based poly-cyclic amine polymer (P-CAP) stationary phases is proved to be effective chiral stationary phases that could be used in the normal-phase mode, polar organic mode and with halogenated solvents mobile phases, if desired. Since these are entirely synthetic CSPs, the elution order of all enantiomers can be reversed between the (R,R) P-CAP and (S,S) P-CAP columns. Because of the high loading of chiral selectors, the columns exhibit very high sample capacities. Thus, P-CAP columns are useful for preparative and semi-preparative enantiomeric separations. The application of these CSPs and optimization of their separations are discussed.

Abstract
A new hybrid organic/inorganic HPLC chiral stationary phase (CSP1) has been synthesized by the grafting from (g-from) radical polymerization of an enantiopure diacryloyl derivative of trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane in the presence of mesoporous, azo-activated silica particles. The new chiral stationary phase has been fully characterized by elemental analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, inverse size exclusion chromatography and Van Deemter analysis. CSP1 shows improved chromatographic performances compared to its analog CSP2 synthesized by the alternative grafting to (g-to) approach in which the azo initiator is kept in solution. CSP1 can successfully resolve several chemically diverse chiral compounds, using both organic and water-based eluents (normal phase, polar organic, etc.).

Abstract
Synthetic, optically active polymers used as CSP are reviewed. The polymers are classified into three major categories, namely, addition polymers, condensation polymers, and cross-linked gels. The emphasis lies on polymethacrylates having helical conformation belonging to the first category. Helical polymethacrylates are synthesized using asymmetric anionic or radical polymerization techniques and show resolving ability towards a wide range of racemate.

Abstract
This review provides an overview of the synthesis and application of stable and versatile HPLC chiral stationary phases (CSPs), with emphasis placed on the binding strategies developed to anchor several structurally different chiral selectors to silica-gel microparticles. In addition, selected applications relating to the use of these CSPs for the direct resolution of racemates of biological and pharmaceutical relevance will be described. This review discusses enantioselective molecular recognition and dynamic stereochemistry of stereolabile compounds with reference to receptor-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs) and dynamic HPLC on CSPs, respectively.
