Abstract
Silk sericin (SS) has a long history as a by-product of the textile industry. SS has emerged as a sustainable material for biomedical engineering due to its material properties including water solubility, diverse impact on biological activities including antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and ability to promote cell adhesion and proliferation. This review addresses the origin, structure, properties, extraction, and underlying functions of this protein. An overview of the growing research studies and market evolution is presented, along with highlights of the most common fabrication matrices (hydrogels, bioinks, porous and fibrous scaffolds) and tissue engineering applications. Finally, the future trends with this protein as a multifaceted toolbox for bioengineering are explored, along with the challenges with SS. Overall, the present review can serve as a foundation for the creation of innovative biomaterials utilizing SS as a fundamental building block that hold market potential.

Abstract
In this work, we propose the utilization of scCO2 to impregnate ibuprofen into the mcl-PHA matrix produced by Pseudomonas chlororaphis subs. aurantiaca (DSM 19603). The biopolymer has adhesive properties, is biocompatible and has a melting temperature of 45 °C. Several conditions, namely, pressure (15 and 20 MPa) and impregnation time (30 min, 1 h and 3 h) were tested. The highest ibuprofen content (90.8 ± 6.5 mg of ibuprofen/gPHA) was obtained at 20 MPa and 40 °C, for 1 h, with an impregnation rate of 89 mg/(g·h). The processed mcl-PHA samples suffered a plasticization, as shown by the decrease of 6.5 °C in the Tg, at 20 MPa. The polymer's crystallinity was also affected concomitantly with the matrices' ibuprofen content. For all the impregnation conditions tested the release of ibuprofen from the biopolymer followed a type II release profile. This study has demonstrated that the mcl-PHA produced by P. chlororaphis has a great potential for the development of novel topical drug delivery systems.

Abstract
AbstractStandard drug delivery systems for cancer treatment usually comprise a device with a specific size and shape (depending on the type of cancer that has to be treated), which is composed by a biodegradable compound with a chemotherapeutic entrapped within it. This device should have a molecule (mainly a protein) bound to its surface to target only cancer cells. On the contrary, supercritical fluids (SCF) have been widely used in the pharmaceutical industry for creating drug delivery systems or for extracting drugs from natural sources. This review explains the potential of SCFs for cancer therapies by studying the current uses of the different high-pressure processes that can be useful for this medical treatment, such as the development of new drug delivery systems (with their drug release) or the extraction of chemotherapeutics from a vegetal matrix.
