Abstract
Raising public awareness over the emerging health risk due to intake of arsenic-contaminated potable water is a matter of great concern. Exploration of cost-effective, self-testing kits is a substantial way to reach out to the masses and detect the presence of arsenate in water. With this agenda, a photoluminescent Mannich base Zn(II) complex (ZnMC = [Zn2(ML)2]·(ClO4)2·(H2O); HML = Mannich base ligand) has been synthesized, and its dinuclearity was verified with single-crystal X-ray diffraction structural analysis. Among a range of anions, ZnMC was found to detect arsenate selectively by showing a turn-off emission with a color change from bright green to dark under UV light. The real-life applicability of the ZnMC probe is somewhat restricted to only sensing of arsenate, but not its removal owing to the fact of its homogeneity. Considering the efficacy of ZnMC as well as a need for its easy removal from water, slight modification has been done with chloride ions in the form of ZnMC″ (=[Zn2(ML)2(Cl)2]), and finally, an interface between homogeneous and heterogeneous solid support has been explored with a strategic fabrication of ZnMC″ grafted ZnAl2O4, named as ZAZ nanomaterial. This not only imparts successful segregation of arsenate from drinking water but also provides naked-eye detection under ambient light as well as UV light. Thermodynamic parameters associated with the binding of arsenate to ZnMC and ZAZ have been evaluated through isothermal calorimetric (ITC) measurements. Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence titration study, absorption titration study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and computational calculations have been performed to get deep insights into the sensing properties. Proper justification of the sensing mechanism is the highlight of this work. ZAZ nanomaterial has been exploited to produce a self-test paper kit for arsenate detection with a limit of 9.86 ppb, which potentially enables applications in environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Here, we show that nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) strongly inhibits the anodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signal of a tris(4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium(II) (Ru(dcbpy)32+)/tripropylamine (TPA) aqueous system. To determine the ECL-quenching mechanism, we used photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy and dynamic simulation technology. Quenching of the ECL signal of Ru(dcbpy)32+/TPA by NCQDs was predominantly attributed to the interaction between Ru(dcbpy)32+ and NCQDs rather than that between TPA and NCQDs. Specifically, when Ru(dcbpy)32+ and NCQDs were in aqueous solution together, the carboxyl (-COOH) groups of Ru(dcbpy)32+ were in contact with oxygen- and nitrogen-containing groups on the surface of NCQDs and formed intermolecular hydrogen bonds. This process involved energy transfer from the excited-state Ru(dcbpy)32+ to the intermolecular hydrogen bonds, thus resulting in a decrease in the Ru(dcbpy)32+ ECL signal. On this basis, a quenching-type ECL sensor for the quantification of NCQDs was fabricated. The sensor had a wide linear range and an estimated detection limit of 0.0012 mg mL-1, as well as excellent stability and selectivity. Satisfactory recoveries of 97.0-99.5% were obtained using the ECL sensor to quantify NCQDs in tap water. NCQDs could potentially be used as a quenching probe of Ru(dcbpy)32+ to construct various biosensors with widespread applications in the sensing field.

Abstract
Biophysical, theoretical and biological in vitro studies were carried out to evaluate the interaction of the main allergen protein of egg white (ovalbumin, OVA) with sulphonamides (SA): sulphathiazole (S1), sulfaquinoxaline (S2), sulfadimethoxine (S3) and sulfamethazine (S4). The binding constants for the OVA-SA supramolecular complexes ranged from 1.20 to 30.66 × 105 M-1, observing the following order of affinity: S1 > S2 > S4 > S3. The preferential forces in the stabilization of the OVA complexes with S2 and S3 were hydrogen bonds and Van der Waals forces, whereas for OVA-S1 and OVAS4, were electrostatic interactions. Interaction process led to a change in the native structure of the protein, which may potentiate its natural allergenicity. Cations Ca(II), Mg(II) and Fe(III) favor the interaction of OVA with S1 and S2. The theoretical studies performed were consistent with the spectroscopic data. Finally, it was found that the interaction process for sulfonamides evaluated with OVA change the inhibition activity profile these antibiotics against strains of Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Bacillus megaterium APFSG3isox, but not the minimal inhibitory concentration values.

Abstract
Interaction between 1,4 Bis ((2-Methyl) thio) Phenylamino methyl benzene (BMTPMB) Schiff base with tin dioxide nanoparticles (SnO2 NPs) of various concentrations in methanol have been studied using UV-Visible and Fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The low value of Stern-Volmer quenching constant and non-linear plot of Benesi-Hildebrand equation suggests the less affinity of SnO2 NPs towards the adsorption of BMTPMB Schiff base. The Scott equation has been employed to determine molar absorptivity of the Schiff base-NPs system.

Abstract
In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to study the interaction of sodium morin-5-sulfonate (NaMSA) with the transport proteins, bovine serum albumin (BSA) employing UV-vis, fluorometric and circular dichroism (CD) techniques. The experimental results indicated that the quenching mechanism of BSA by the compound was a static procedure. Various binding parameters were evaluated. The negative value of ΔH, positive value of ΔS and the negative value of ΔG indicated that electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding play major roles in the binding of the NaMSA and BSA. Based on the Forster's theory of non-radiation energy transfer, the binding distance, r, between the donor (BSA) and acceptor (NaMSA) was evaluated. The results of CD and UV-vis spectroscopy showed that the binding of this complex to BSA induces some conformational changes in BSA.
