Click-Type PtII-Mediated Hydroxyguanidine-Nitrile Coupling Provides Useful Catalysts for Hydrosilylation Cross-Linking

Halogen Bond Motifs in Cocrystals of N,N,O and N,O,O Acceptors Derived from Diketones and Containing a Morpholine or Piperazine Moiety

In this study, we investigate the halogen bond acceptor potential of oxygen and nitrogen atoms of morpholine and piperazine fragments when they are peripherally located on N,O,O or N,N,O acceptor molecules. We synthesized four acceptor molecules derived from either acetylacetone or benzoylacetone and cocrystallized them with 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene and 1,3,5-triiodotrifluorobenzene. This resulted in eight cocrystals featuring different topicities and geometric dispositions of donor atoms. In all cocrystals, halogen bonds are formed with either the morpholinyl oxygen atom or the terminal piperazine nitrogen atom. The I···O_morpholine halogen bonds feature lower relative shortening values than I···N_terminal, I···O_carbonyl, and I···N_proximal halogen bonds. The N and O halogen bond acceptor sites were evaluated through calculations of molecular electrostatic potential values.

A metal-free radical technique for cross-linking of polymethylhydrosiloxane or polymethylvinylsiloxane using AIBN

A new method was developed for the metal-free cross-linking of silicone rubbers. This process uses azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) to selectively react with Si-H and vinyl groups as a free-radical initiator for the thermal curing of polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) and polymethylvinylsiloxane (PMVS). The AIBN-initiated curing reaction between the Si-H groups of PMHS generated Si-O-Si and Si-Si cross-links. In contrast, PMVS was cured via the formation of C-C bonds through "methyl-vinyl" and "vinyl-vinyl" mechanisms. Curing reactions were performed at 80-120 °C in air and confirmed by 13C and 29Si solid state NMR analyses and swelling trials.

Embedded Ink Writing (EIW) of Polysiloxane Inks

Polysiloxane is a desirable material for the fabrication of devices in microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip, and microelectromechanical systems, but direct patterning of microstructures using liquid polysiloxane resins would require adequate rheological and chemical properties of the resins. In this work, we developed a simple method to fabricate planar microstructures consisting of polysiloxane using commercially available liquid polysiloxane resins without changing their properties. We used a direct ink writing (DIW) printer to dispense curable liquid polysiloxane (with the viscosity in the range of 1-100 Pa·s) in a liquid immiscible with the resins (such as methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol). The contact angle (θ) of the dispensed polysiloxane on the Petri dish increased from 20° in air to 100° in methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol. The increase in the contact angles allowed maintaining the structures of patterned polysiloxane until curing, and the embedding liquid was readily removed by evaporation. We termed this method as embedded ink writing (EIW). The effects of curing time (τ) and nozzle speed (v) on the width of the printed filament (w) were evaluated. EIW achieved the minimum width of the printed filament of 65 μm. EIW enabled direct writing of polysiloxane resins and should find applications in fabricating microfluidic devices, flexible wearables, and soft actuators.

Four-Center Nodes: Supramolecular Synthons Based on Cyclic Halogen Bonding

The isocyanide trans-[PdBr₂ (CNC₆ H₄ -4-X')₂ ] (X'=Br, I) and nitrile trans-[PtX₂ (NCC₆ H₄ -4-X')₂ ] (X/X'=Cl/Cl, Cl/Br, Br/Cl, Br/Br) complexes exhibit similar structural motif in the solid state, which is determined by hitherto unreported four-center nodes formed by cyclic halogen bonding. Each node is built up by four Type II C-X'⋅⋅⋅X-M halogen-bonding contacts and include one Type I M-X⋅⋅⋅X-M interaction, thus giving the rhombic-like structure. These nodes serve as supramolecular synthons to form 2D layers or double chains of molecules linked by a halogen bond. Results of DFT calculations indicate that all contacts within the nodes are typical noncovalent interactions with the estimated strengths in the range 0.6-2.9 kcal mol^-1 .

Platinum-catalyzed reactions between Si-H groups as a new method for cross-linking of silicones

The platinum-catalyzed self-cross-linking of polymethylhydrosiloxane at RT in air was performed for the first time and proved by 1H, 13C, and 29Si SSNMR and swelling measurements. Quantum chemical modeling of possible structures was investigated. Platinum (0) and (ii) complexes were used as catalysts between the Si-H groups of polymethylhydrosiloxane. Karstedt's catalyst leads to Si-O-Si and Si-Si bond formation, but cis-[PtCl2(BnCN)2] generates predominantly Si-O-Si cross-links. cis-[PtCl2(BnCN)2] allows creating high-quality silicone rubbers without visible mechanical defects. This cross-linking approach can be used to obtain new Si-H-containing silicone materials.

Platinum Complexes with Chelating Acyclic Aminocarbene Ligands Work as Catalysts for Hydrosilylation of Alkynes

This work describes the preparation of a series of platinum-aminocarbene complexes [PtCl{C(N=C a (C6R2R3R4R5CON b ))=N(H)R1}(CNR1)] a-b (8-19, 65-75% isolated yield) via the reaction of cis-[PtCl2(CNR1)2] (R1 = Cy 1, t-Bu 2, Xyl 3, 2-Cl-6-MeC6H3 4) with 3-iminoisoindolin-1-ones HN=C a (C6R2R3R4R5CON b H) (R2-R5 = H 5; R3 = Me, R2, R4, R5 = H 6; R3, R4 = Cl, R2, R5 = H 7). New complexes 17-19 were characterized by elemental analyses (C, H, N), ESI+-MS, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), one-dimensional (1H, 13C{1H}), and two-dimensional (1H,1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), 1H,13C heteronuclear multiple quantum correlation (HMQC)/1H,13C heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC), 1H,13C heteronuclear multiple bond correlation (HMBC)) NMR spectroscopy, and authenticity of known species 8-16 was confirmed by FT-IR and 1H and 13C{1H} NMR. Complexes 8-19 were assessed as catalysts for hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes with hydrosilanes to give vinyl silanes, and complex [PtCl{C(N=C a (C6H3(5-Me)CON b ))=N(H)(2-Cl-6-MeC6H3)}{CN(2-Cl-6-MeC6H3)}] a-b (18) showed the highest catalytic activity. The catalytic system proposed operates at 80-100 °C for 4-6 h in toluene and with catalyst loading of 0.1 mol %, enabling the reaction of a number of terminal alkynes (PhC≡CH, t-BuC≡CH, and 4-(t-Bu)C6H4C≡CH) with hydrosilanes (Et3SiH, Pr3SiH, i-Pr3SiH, and PhMe2SiH). Target vinyl silanes were prepared in 48-95% yields (as a mixture of α/β isomers) and with maximum turnover number of 8.4 × 103. Hydrosilylation of internal alkynes (PhC≡CPh, Me(CH2)2C≡C(CH2)2Me, and PhC≡CMe) with hydrosilanes (Et3SiH, PhMe2SiH) led to the corresponding trisubstituted silylated alkenes in 86-94% yields. Initial observations on the mechanism of the catalytic action of platinum-ADC catalysts 8-19 suggested a molecular catalytic cycle.

Similar nature leads to improved properties: cyclic organosilicon triperoxides as promising curing agents for liquid polysiloxanes

bis-Nitrile and bis-Dialkylcyanamide Platinum(II) Complexes as Efficient Catalysts for Hydrosilylation Cross-Linking of Siloxane Polymers

cis- and trans-Isomers of the platinum(II) nitrile complexes [PtCl2(NCR)2] (R = NMe2, N(C₅H10), Ph, CH2Ph) were examined as catalysts for hydrosilylation cross-linking of vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane and trimethylsilyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane-co-ethylhydrosiloxane) producing high quality silicone rubbers. Among the tested platinum species the cis-complexes are much more active catalysts than their trans-congeners and for all studied platinum complexes cis-[PtCl2(NCCH2Ph)2] exhibits the best catalytic activity (room temperature, c = 1.0 × 10(-4) mol/L, τpot-life 60 min, τcuring 6 h). Although cis-[PtCl₂(NCCH2Ph)2] is less active than the widely used Karstedt's catalyst, its application for the cross-linking can be performed not only at room temperature (c = 1.0 × 10(-4) mol/L), but also, more efficiently, at 80 °C (c = 1.0 × 10(-4)-1.0 × 10(-5) mol/L) and it prevents adherence of the formed silicone rubbers to equipment. The usage of the cis- and trans-[PtCl2(NCR)2] complexes as the hydrosilylation catalysts do not require any inhibitors and, moreover, the complexes and their mixtures with vinyl- and trimethylsilyl terminated polysiloxanes are shelf-stable in air. Tested catalysts do not form colloid platinum particles after the cross-linking.
