Cyclodextrin‐Functionalised Nanomaterials for Enantiomeric Recognition

Research progress of fluorescent composites based on cyclodextrins: Preparation strategies, fluorescence properties and applications in sensing and bioimaging

Fluorescence analysis has been regarded as one of the commonly used analytical methods because of its advantages of simple operation, fast response, low cost and high sensitivity. So far, various fluorescent probes, with noble metal nanoclusters, quantum dots, organic dyes and metal organic frameworks as representatives, have been widely reported. However, single fluorescent probe often suffers from some deficiencies, such as low quantum yield, poor chemical stability, low water solubility and toxicity. To overcome these disadvantages, the introduction of cyclodextrins into fluorescent probes has become a fascinating approach. This review (with 218 references) systematically covers the research progress of fluorescent composites based on cyclodextrins in recent years. Preparation strategies, fluorescence properties, response mechanisms and applications in sensing (ions, organic pollutants, bio-related molecules, temperature, pH) and bioimaging of fluorescent composites based on cyclodextrins are summarized in detail. Finally, the current challenges and future perspectives of these composites in relative research fields are discussed.

Separation of ofloxacin enantiomers by CE with fluorescence detection using DNA oligonucleotides as chiral selectors

This study used CE with fluorescence detection- and partial-filling mode-based method for chiral separation of ofloxacin. The DNA oligonucleotides with different base sequences were studied as potential chiral selectors including DNA tetrahedron, G-quadruplex, and G-riched double-strand DNA. Under the optimized conditions, all the DNA chiral selectors exhibited excellent chiral separation capabilities with a resolution higher than 1.5. The electrophoretic behavior of the ofloxacin enantiomer might result from the intermediate conjugate with different stabilities between chiral selectors and analytes by a combination of the hydrogen bond and spatial recognition structure. Moreover, satisfactory repeatability regarding run-to-run and interday repeatability was obtained, and all the RSD values of migration times and resolutions were below 4% (n = 6). Conclusively, both spatial structure and arrangement of the G bases potentiated the chiral separation capability of DNA for ofloxacin enantiomer. Recent advances in chiral discrimination on host-guest functionalized interfaces

Chiral discrimination has gained much focus in supramolecular chemistry, since it is one of the fundamental processes in biological systems, enantiomeric separation and biochemical sensors. Though most of the biochemical processes can routinely recognize biological enantiomers, enantioselective identification of chiral molecules in artificial systems is currently one of the challenging topics in the field of chiral discrimination. Inaccuracy, low separation efficiency and expensive instrumentation were considered typical problems in artificial systems. Recently, chiral recognition on the interfaces has been widely used in the fields of electrochemical detection and biochemical sensing. For the moment, a series of macrocyclic host functionalized interfaces have been developed for use as chiral catalysts or for enantiomeric separation. Here, we have briefly exposited the most recent advances in the fabrication of supramolecular functionalized interfaces and their application for chiral recognition.
