Abstract
Immobilization procedures, intended to enable prolonged observation of single molecules by fluorescence microscopy, may generate heterogeneous microenvironments, thus inducing heterogeneity in the molecular behavior. On that account, we propose a straightforward surface preparation procedure for studying chemical reactions on the single-molecule level. Sensor fluorophores were developed, which exhibit dual-emissive characteristics in a homogeneously catalyzed showcase reaction. These molecules undergo a shift of fluorescence wavelength of about 100 nm upon Pd(0)-induced deallylation in the Tsuji-Trost reaction, allowing for separate visualization of the starting material and product. Whereas a simultaneous immobilization of dye and inert silane leads to strongly polydisperse reaction kinetics, a consecutive immobilization routine with deposition of dye molecules as the last step provides substrates underlying the kinetics of ensemble experiments. Also, the found kinetics are unaffected by the chemical variation of inert silanes, nearly uniform, and therefore well reproducible. Additional parameters like photostability, signal-to-noise ratio, dye-molecule density, and spatial distribution of dye molecules are, as well, hardly affected by surface modification in the successive immobilization scheme.

Abstract
Nanoreactors are material structures with engineered internal cavities which create exclusive confined nanoscale surroundings for chemical reactions. The cavities of mesoporous silica SBA-15 can be used as nanoreactors for incorporating catalytic species such as metal nanoparticles, complexes etc. Since SBA-15 silica has a neutral framework, organic functional groups and heteroatoms have been embedded by direct or post-synthesis approaches in order to modify their functionality. Palladium is the most used transition metal for C-C bond formations. Because of the great importance of C-C coupling reactions, this review article aims at providing a deep insight into the state of art in the field of the synthesis and the application of mesoporous SBA-15 silica-supported Pd catalysts in C-C coupling transformations. In most cases, synthesis and modification of the catalyst, time and yield of reactions, recyclability and leaching of the Pd species from the SBA-15 support are discussed to reveal the role of SBA-15 in C-C coupling reactions.

Abstract
An ecofriendly solid catalyst has been synthesized by anchoring palladium(II) into post synthetically modified metal organic framework IRMOF-3. The pore of IRMOF-3 was first modified with pyridine-2-aldehyde. The amine group of IRMOF-3 upon condensation with pyridine-2-aldehyde afforded a bidentate Schiff base moiety in the porous matrix. The Schiff base moieties were used to anchor palladium(II) ions. The prepared catalyst has been characterized by UV-vis, IR spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and nitrogen sorption measurements. Framework structure of the catalyst is not being destroyed in the multistep synthesis procedure as evidenced in X-ray powder diffraction studies. The catalyst has shown high activity toward the Suzuki and Stille cross-coupling reaction in 20% H2O/EtOH and EtOH medium, respectively, at 80 °C. The immobilized complex did not leach or decompose during the catalytic reactions, showing practical advantages over the homogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Glycerol carbonate can be readily synthesized from the oxidative carbonylation of glycerol catalyzed by PdCl(2)(phen) (phen=1,10-phenanthroline) with the aid of CuI. High conversion (95 %) and selectivity (98 %) are achieved and the turnover frequency (TOF) reaches 455 h(-1). Furthermore, a new zeolite-Y-confined Pd catalyst, PdCl(2)(phen)@Y, has been successfully prepared by a ''flexible ligand'' method. The structure and composition of the heterogeneous catalyst have been characterized by atomic absorption spectroscopy, elemental analysis, N(2) sorption, XRD, FTIR, solid-state NMR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This catalyst exhibits a comparable activity to its homogeneous counterpart and could be reused five times without significant decrease in activity. This is the most efficient heterogeneous system for synthesizing glycerol carbonate by the oxidative carbonylation of glycerol to date.
